"Something's Gotta Give" diane keaton writes a play/IMs with Jack Nicholson on a tibook.
Also theres a powerbook used as the symbol for SPIKE tv whenever they show star trek.

There are several Macs in Stuck on You. I have seen Macs in several Friends episodes. The computers in Youve Got Mail are not all macs. Tom Hanks uses an IBM and Meg Ryan uses a Powerbook.

I just always get a kick when I see a PB in a movie/show, and the apple logo is taped over :D
That happens a lot in Law and Order - I've never seen so many PostIt notes on displays, there's always one right in the middle at the bottom :D.

I saw 'Raising Helen' the other day (chick flick, wife chose it  ), in one scene in a modelling agency there were about 6 studio displays to be seen.

I went to see Stepford Wives last weekend. Nicole Kidman's character was using a 17" PB in one scene. It's pretty easy to spot Powerbooks with the big glowing Apple logo
:)

Was wathing Holyoaks yesturday (UK Teen Soap) and one of the characters was listening to an iPod although you only saw the distinctive headphones. Part of the plot was that he was buying expensive gadgets.

What percentage of these did the Mac get destroyed/smashed up/ otherwise eliminated spectacularly? HULK, for one, had that Lab scene where he first grows out his clothes and some lovely 17” iMac become collateral damage. Independence Day had one such scene, though I cannot place it accurately now.

Personally, I think hollywood uses Mac as an elitist gesture, just like they cast Jennifer Aniston as a superstore clerk : who wants to go the movies and see normal people or stuff that normal people buy/use? And in this goal, the Mac with its small market footprint suits them a lot; and the fact that Apple products pretty-up the scene is just bonus.

Of course, being a computer professional, most of the times a computer occupies center stage in a movie or a scene (as opposed to looking pretty in the background), I cringe more often than not. Most of the programs are made to have unrealistic interface (like a large ‘e’ the size of the whole screen revolving lazily to announce new email – ‘Disclosure’ and many others) or downright make-a-fool-of-the-audience script.

The virus scenario of Independence Day was so lame: our champ sends out a virus to infect the machine of extra-terrestrials without knowing what sort of machines they had (simplistic situation – what if he sent out a windows virus and they had unix?) :D

Jurassic Park had the young girl using a computer to secure-lock the doors against some wily velociraptors; but first she says, “It's a UNIX system! I know this!” and it was a Mac!

Personally I think Hollywood uses Macs because the prop designers use them, and it's simpler to use computers they already own than going out to buy a new computer. Take for instance Ben Stiller's Wallstreet in Duplex. It had OSX on it and non-default icons in the dock. Of course when it's in the fire and then gets run over it's a different notebook but still.

I'd love to think that there are some big mac fan prop designers using gurilla tactic to infiltrate as many movies as possible and swap those pc's with some beautiful mac's.

Here's a few that I don't think have been mentioned yet:

There's a United Way commercial featuring kicker Martin Grammatica (NFL) and a classroom full of kids. He checks out what some kid was working on, and an animation shows him missing a field goal (or something like that). The classroom is actually a Mac lab (the most lime iMacs I've ever seen in one place!), but every logo is taped over or has a post it or something.

I saw an HBO special last week on do-it-yourself porn. (No, really, I was, um, interested in the cinematography and the, um, lighting. Really). Well, anyway, two of the filmmakers/actors were discussing the editing process (see! I told you it was educational!) with their 17" Powerbook up close and personal (no pun intended...)

In "The Firm", they have some ancient Macs - remember the scene where he's copying some info to a floppy and it takes forever and a day (I miss that sound sometimes. Not for long, but sometimes...)

Also on the History channel a few weeks ago, they were interviewing some college professor about translating some forgotten language. It was great to see some screen shots of the 20" Cinema displays (I think there were some MDD's running this quite impressive set up).

and yes, I'm one of those people who checks to see what computer is being used in every movie or show I watch. I'm proud of my choice of computer - I just want our minority to be properly represented on screen!

Say it loud! I'm Mac and I'm proud!

It was on "Law & Order" that Detective Briscoe notice the use of "Marine Aquarium."

This is sort of related - I've seen chandler from friends reading macworld on a number of occasions (in the show).

also, the daily mail offices are filled with flat panel imacs.

vh-1's I love the 90's...

During the interviews, the background is the afterdark flying toasters screensavers. macs are in the artwork of the shows opener thing, as well as the mac startup sound.

I just spotted that little Anthony in the Sopranos(5th Season) uses an iBook and an iPod.

also in sucky movies, without a paddle featured an imac in matthew lillard's house.

ok, so it wasnt totally sucky, seth green and lillard redeemed a bit.
but you get the idea.

hmm

ITALIAN JOB USED PC'S..... AND DELL, they really showed the dell logo's in that movie in great valor if you noticed.

Obvious because its a computer show but...

The Screen Savers, everyone does or has used a mac on there at some point.

It is especially interesting when they start to convert one of the cast members over to mac. They talk about how they used Windows and found just as much usability in mac.

Although I think Patrick and Kevin are using Dell laptops on the show now. I'm not for sure since I haven't seen an episode in about a month.

this may have been mentioned before cause i didnt have time to read the whole thread but once on saturday night live this guy went into a store with grandma to buy her underwear and as soon as they got there he said he was going to the apple store and she made him stay

ipods and macs

#1 I know in a rerun of Boy Meets World that I watched the other day because I was bored had an orange imac just sitting on a shelf sideways for looks...not to be used, but for looks (no keyboard mouse or nothing).

#2 In the movie Timeline I noticed a couple 23" apple displays and I think they were run on a cube (not sure).

#3 In a one of Nelly's music videos on MTV, he is using ipod headphones but you can never see the ipod!!

(#4 This isnt on tv but at the restaurant, O'Charleys in North Carolina, we have a budweiser poster with a girl holding an ipod and laughing!!!)
