I found the following in your Future Feature List.

Allow to specify start folder (done for SMB/CIFS, will be in 1.2.1)

It says done. Is it in the current beta? If so, how do we use it? Maybe I just missed it. Like do you have to manually add a Server? And, if you manually add a server can you specify the full path to the folder you want?

Thanks for your feedback Mike and thanks for pushing me to try again to add the crash logger, it will be very helpful to hunt for crashes in future ;)

I noted this morning that the .m3u8 files now show as .m3u8 instead of .mpg, and most will play. Some don't for whatever reason. Pause doesn't pause but selects the next file or stream.

I saw your emails lparsons21, great that it works now ! Regarding the pause, I guess that I should disable it when playing stream as we can't pause a stream.

Yes, it is great. Whatever you did seems to work. But it sometimes won't start the stream though I can't seem to find a consistent reason why one plays fine and another won't start. In the back of my mind I keep thinking it is timing as Playon is sometimes slow to start a stream, just a gut feel.

As to pause, with MrMC and LocalCast, pausing a stream will work which makes me think they are sending that pause signal back to the Playon server. The Playon server does support pause.

I've uploaded build 7 which is adding few things (fix for airplay audio delay and add an "About" menu...

Changelog for 1.2.1 :

Support for airport audio delay is working perfectly (now have to get some other devs to fix, haha).

Thanks Sylver, for being so responsive to our differing problems.

Really looking forward to many of your new additions.

I did receive my HDHomeRun device, I've corrected the issue with it, a new beta with HDHomeRun support will arrive soon !
BTW, sorry for the number of beta these days
It should slow down during holidays :p

Just tested HDHomeRun channels. What a surprise and an extra treat. Only tested for a few minutes, my favorites tune in great. Possibly, there is a problem with restart from pause, though. Will test later tonight when I get back home.

Thanks for an early XMas gift.

I tested with the HDHomeRun. I have 2 Prime Devices with Cable Cards. For some reason your list of all channels does not get past Channel 156 on both which are all SD channels. When it comes up you see a Favorites and Channels Folders. On my New Prime the Favorites is empty. But on the older Prime there are channels in the Favorites Folder. I think the Channels App may have flagged them but not sure. It no longer ties favorites to the device but to the Apple TV so not sure. But anyway my favorites which start at 502 (HD) all work. So you are able to access them. Not sure why your list stops at 156.

No worries on number of beta's. Much more work on your part then ours. Pretty easy to apply the update and play with it. Kind of like early xmas to get an update. :)

Hey Mike & Sylver,

My prime on channels (all) only shows the first 100. Mike, does your channel count at Channel 156 = 100 displayed?

For those using the HDHomeRun, I would like to see a video of this in action using NAStify. Im thinking of buying one.

Under UPNP (for me with 2 Primes) you are showing 6 HDHomeRun Prime Tuners the 2 HDHomeRun DMS. I would drop the Tuners from the list.

I haven't used it with NAStify yet, but I've loved using my HDHomeRun with Channels since I got it a couple weeks ago. The new beta of it last night added 5.1 audio support too which I've been waiting for.

Sylver78, is it possible to get into your beta to play with it?

Also, speaking of surround sound, does it work in NAStify for anyone? I've been playing with the different media center apps and I can't get a couple of them (NAStify & MrMC) to play 5.1. All of my movies have 2 audio tracks, a stereo one for the first track and AC3 for the 2nd. Playback always starts with the stereo track and after switching to the surround one I still only get 2 channels to my receiver. My test video works correctly with both the Computers app streaming from iTunes and with Air Video. BTW, Apocalypse Now is great for testing this. The first 45 seconds or so has a helicopter circle you. Makes it really easy to tell.

Thanks for the comment DD. Would you consider this product a SlingBox killer?

Like the other person said Channels is really good. You set your favorite channels and each channel is a picture of the show that is currently on. My wife and I have been using it since it was released. We have since returned all of our set top boxes for a savings of about $60 per month in rental fees. I am Renting two cable cards because I have 2 Primes.

The NAStify interface is more like a listing of the channels. You select one and it plays. Pretty simple. I got NAStify to watch shows I am recording with the HDHomeRun DVR which is in beta. Nice option to access live tv.

Big warning: None of them will play channels flagged as DRM. And the different providers flag different ones. Most will flag premium channels like HBO. But I got HBO Now so not a concern. But in my case only FOX Cable Channels are flagged. I am on Verizon FIOS. TWC flags all but the local channels so really not a good option. So if you want a lot of cable channels with cable card you need to check it out.

All of my UPnP players show the main connection (DMS) plus 3 tuners except NPlayer (on IOS), which only displays the DMS. This request is towards the bottom of my list, as I would like to see favorites, thumbnails implemented before trying to suppress the tuners from the list.

Sylver, I think you have your answer on the Channels limits at 100, hopefully it is an easy fix to expand. Tried pause again and it still won't restart playing.

Mike: Can you check on your system.

1. I agree 100% with your priorities. If you hide the Servers and show Favorites on the main page then you solve my problem for the most part.
2. Yes. Pause does not work in NAStify with Live TV. However, Channels (at least current Beta) supports Pause and Continue. I am really hoping he can add Pause, FF, REW at some point. But not sure how much he can hold in memory. He has been working on this in various betas. I am not sure how long you can pause now before it will just stop and exit the program. In the past I think around 2 minutes. I have not used it in a while. My wife is the one that watches the most Live TV and I don't think she ever pauses it.

Sorry, I don't have a USB-C cable to record a video. However, when playing live TV from a HDHomeRun Prime, it is as if you playing directly from your source (cable). Fairly sure it's the same from an Extend or Connect (OTA).

For more info see: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/live-tv-solution.1937180/ and https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-to-watch-live-tv-on-the-apple-tv.1939898/ (this forum).

I have been using HDHomeRuns for over 5 years (OTA and then Cable Card). Fantastic. As per Mike, the Prime paid for itself in less than a year.

First, thanks for adding HDHomeRun support. I'm glad you are looking into it, and by the looks of it on this forum, many others are also appreciating it.

I gave the new beta with HDHomeRun support a try but, unfortunately, it did not work. I now see the listing of channels which I did not see before, but when I click on one of the channels, nothing will happen.

I'm kind of curious because it seems as others are having a lot more luck.

I'm running an HDHomeRun Extend (formerly known as the Plus), which does transcoding to h.264. However, I've tried setting the default to both transcoding and native mpeg2, but still see the same issue.

Does anyone else see the same problems with an h.264 transcoding HDHomeRun?

I think I saw in another forum that the Extend had to be set with the transcoding disabled. Fairly sure it was for a recording as it was interferring with the dvr program itself. As a test, temporarily disable transcode and then try to view channel. I'm not familiar with the Extend settings, so if native mpeg2 means disabled transcode, then I realize you have already tried that test.

Wow this HDHomeRun support is getting people exited :D
I had a quick look and I did solve the 100 items limit ! Will be available when I'll send a new beta version ...
For the DRM thing, I think that it'll not be possible to play these DRM channels as the goal of the DRM is to make a lot of limitation to playback ...

DRM is a nightmare I believe. If you are interested you may want to reach out to SilconDust/HDHomeRun. They support DRM in the hardware and with at least one of their View Apps.

DRM is indeed a "Rabbit Hole". It is best left to the big guns: MS, Sony (PS3/4) and hopefully, SiliconDust can join them, even though they are a relatively small shop . Only Android devices can currently use SD's "View" app for DRM live view (how this is allowed is a puzzlement to me).

Channels is an elegant, but costly (to some) live viewing solution, but no DRM support. SD has made significant improvements to their View apps over the last year, but are struggling (at least 3 months behind schedule) with getting their kickstarter DVR with DRM support project finalized, even though they garnered $370,000 from the community to offset development costs.

Sylver's addition of being able to view "Live TV" is a wonderful bonus, as it is a bit beyond the scope of his core App, in my opinion.
If he can add Pause/FF/Rew easily, all the better, but anything further will take an inordinate amount of time.
