Turned off the auto renewal right away. Just don't find it worth the monthly cost since I don't listen to music often. I will stick with free Spotify and a few ads.

Didn't sign up for the trial and kind of glad I didn't based on these comments and stuff my friends have said. Google Play Music has been getting better and better though. :p Love that I can store something like 75,000 audio files now. And not just songs but podcasts and radio shows as well.

The thing that stands out about that article is that is based on 5000 users out of many millions that use it?

~50 M. With 5000 people surveyed, I think there's over an 80% chance that you're off by under 1%, assuming that you've got a good sampling and didn't bias in any way.

I like that Apple made Apple Music, though I hate Apple Music itself. They introduced a few ideas that I think Spotify could pick up and Do a much better implementation of in the coming months. Like Connect. Spotify could add that sort of thing right alongside the artist bios.

Apple could literally copy the Spotify interface and still get the same return they have so far if all that remains different is free vs cost. If someone offers for free what another charges for, game over.

I'm using it right now because it has music Spotify doesn't (namely the Beatles) and I can sync playlists to my watch. Not sure if that will work with Spotify this fall.

Wait. What? Did you get an Apple Watch.. or is it synced up to some other smart watch?

I like Apple Music. Spotify, Tidal and all those other streaming services are all okay, but they can't compete with Apple Music. Many people complain how confusing the interface is. I disagree with that, the interface looks great and it's easy-to-use. Most of the people who complain might just have expected too much. I didn't, I assumed it would be fine. Just fine, nothing less and nothing more. And that's exactly how Apple Music feels to me.

Sure, there are some bugs out there (even a few that really annoy me), but Apple Music has just been launched. I give them the time they need to improve everything. And believe me, they will!

The music library is incredibly large. There's so much choice out there (of course there is, you've got access to the complete iTunes database). I am not planning on quitting my subscription at all. :p

A new study by consumer research firm MusicWatch finds that 77% of iOS users in the United States are aware of Apple Music, with 11% currently using the streaming music service. Additionally, among those that signed up for Apple Music's three-month trial, 48% said they are no longer using the service and 61% reported they have turned off the auto-renewal subscription option in iTunes.

Apple Music has attracted more users from Spotify Premium than ad-supported services such as Spotify Free and Pandora:While nearly half of iOS users that have tried Apple Music are no longer using the service, with some maintaining their loyalty to Spotify, Pandora and other rivals, the study finds that 64% of current users said they were "extremely" or "very likely" to pay for an Apple Music subscription following the free trial period, which concludes on September 30 for those that signed up on launch day.

The research study also claims that 30% of Apple Music users listen to Beats 1, while 27% use Apple Music Connect. MusicWatch's data is based on an August 2015 survey of 5,000 U.S. consumers age 13 and older, and the results were weighted to the U.S. population. The research firm has been cited by publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Fortune.

I've been using  Music since launch and yes, I do agree that UI and UX enhancements are required. However, I'm very impressed with the For You section as it seems to keep improving on suggesting music that I like the longer I use  Music. Perhaps that's how the algorithms work. Also, I'm glad that thanks to  Music I've discovered some new and/or obscure artists that I'd probably not have discovered on my own.

I'd continue to use  Music, even after the trial. I think Spotify is a great music streaming platform, certainly better than Pandora in my experience. But I think I'll stick to my move to  Music for a while. At least until there's a visible change in other services.

It's expensive? Who has better price? I'm not a student so Spotify's student discount means nothing to me.
The only way Apple Music is a great deal is if you get their family plan (or get friends to cooperate under the same plan). Otherwise, for what you're getting, it isn't a stellar deal in my opinion. It still needs work.

I like the interface for Spotify better. I also like its seamless support for multiple devices, including PC. For example, I wouldn't want to download iTunes just to use the service on PC if I didn't have an iOS device. A dedicated Apple Music application for PC would be better, with its own design. And, finally, discounts are a plus.

I'll also have to see how good Apple Music is for Android, and then I'll see if its worth considering, since I also have Android devices. That should also give Apple time to get their stuff together and improve Apple Music.

I think that's a ridiculous thing to say. Given how many millions surely signed up for the free trial, if almost 40% stick with it, that's an incredible number of people subscribing to a new service right off the bat. 40% is a huge success I think.

I think the % who have turned off auto renewal is enlightening.

They had to actively seek out how to do it, i.e. turn it off. If that many went out of their way to turn it off, they must have really been disheartened by the service apple was providing.

A sample of 5000 would, if representative, provide an incredibly accurate estimate.

The majority of academic research is done with far smaller samples.

In theory, 30 is enough for an accurate estimate for any normally distributed group.

See central limit theorem.

Believe me - if the survey indicated an overwhelming success for AM, then the survey wouldn't be questioned ;)

I turned it off after a few days of trying to use it. For some reason I thought the interface would be like the iTunes music store but it wasn't. I couldn't find good music to listen to that I didn't already own. The "suggestions" option was terrible and I felt like I was being force fed music I didn't want to listen to. Also, they really screwed up the interface for music in iOS really badly. So don't want to support a crappy interface.

It was hilarious because I would go to the itunes store and look around then try to find that song/album in Apple music. That is pretty useless on an Apple music interface design perspective.

I haven't turned it off - yet. Still trying to decide if I want to or not. The idea of having 37 million songs is extremely appealing but the implementation is an abomination. The user interface is a total mess. They've taken what was a poorly designed and bloated iTunes interface and somehow made it much worse. I too have had to go to the iTunes store at times to find music. The suggestions don't faintly fit what I actually like. Add in the trashing of playlists and it's just a downright bad experience. They really should have waited to release this as it is leaving such a bad experience in people's mouths that they may never get a second chance with some of these customers. Jobs must be rolling over in his grave at this mess - nothing magical here.

Spotify sucks big time and I cannot wait for spotify to be hacked and put out of business.

If you don't like the service fine don't use it. The fact that you dislike it so much that you want it to be hacked and put out of business is very childish in my opinion. After all competition is the best thing for all these companies. It will lead to be offerings for the masses.

I wish I could switch back to the old music app. It's too clunky and I can't do what I used to love. Why is there no option in my music to shuffle all songs by artist. Instead I have to click an album and can shuffle that album after selecting the fist song. Sometimes I only buy song. I'm pretty disappointed.

Its still buggy. If i buy something, put it in my playlist, it doesn't show up on all my devices.

Also i'm not paying 120/yr when i can pay half that on Spotify (student).

My gf loves Apple Music though, so there's that....

Also Spotify's student pricing is US-only

Its not US only

I actually prefer Apple Music over Spotify, just soooo many buggs on AM on IOS9.
They should change the save my music to make offline i think, way to complex now.

The headline is misleading because it puts a negative spin on what doesn't seem negative at all. Of course the majority of free users will drop off. What's interesting is that over 60% of users that are still using AM will most likely pay. That's a darn good conversion rate by any measure.

I'm also one of the ones that stopped using it because of the bugs. Apple really should have put considerable resources into making it bug free during the first three months when most interested users are using the trial. Right now it's an afterthought for Apple and, as the survey shows, most people have given up on it and gone back to what they used before.
