They knew they were going to do this the moment they jacked up the price back in the day and everyone complained. They were like, okay... we'll make it appear as if we're sensitive to their concerns, then just nickel and dime it slowly instead of all at once. That way, no one will notice, and no one will care.

And here we are.

We used to only have Netflix, but now have Apple TV+, Disney+, and recently added HBO Max. Now we realize what a bad deal Netflix is. Netflix does not have as many good movies anymore. It seems they are focusing on series. Frankly I've found HBO Max to be the best deal. It is free if you're with the right tier ATT plan and they have a lot of Warner Brothers movies including James Bond, and Matrix. Now that Netflix is going up, I'm seriously considering dumping it.

Yeah, not worth it. As it stands, Netflix has become foundry for super-woke programming, and most of it is not entertaining at all. I never really forgave Netflix since ”Cuties” was deemed appropriate for their service.

Noone talks about Better Call Saul ? I am shocked.
Better Call Saul / Narcos are diamonds in the Netflix rough. Whilst these are examples of superb TV, they probably don’t appeal that much to the millions of mall rats who stump up their Netflix subs each month.

Has anyone from the uk tried buying Netflix from Turkey but using it in the UK for UK content. Shouldn’t need a vpn apart from purchasing the Turkish subscription.

Netflix spend 15 billions in 2021 on content (up 25%)
More people is streaming more content due to pandemic = they need more data centers to provide.

Would I like it to be cheaper - yes but not if it means Commercials or less content ( in Denmark we only have 1/4 of the shows you have in the US on Netflix.
But compared to cable ( witch I cut 15 years ago ) it cheaper and no commercials- every time I visit people and have to suffer through 1 hours of commercials stuffed into a 2 hour movie I die a little …. They cut the original movie and make it last up to 1/3 longer.
NO WAY - and I’ll gladly pay 50% more for Netflix as long as there are no commercials
A good cable plan here is 60$ or month.
We only pay for Netflix- it’s our only source - and I’ll happily pay more.

Also Apple TV Jesus Christ the mix of free and pay- never going back to that crappy model - spend 15 minutes finding a show / movie only to learn I now have to pay, so payed content inside a payed service- hell no

Streaming can barely figure out 4k except apple. Once Apple gets even more movies and shows I think they’re gonna eat Netflix’s lunch in the next 5 years. Apple streaming quality is top notch….everything is 4K HDR at a decent nitrate too, its incredible to watch. They just need a bit more content and its getting there.

Add to that…theres still a massive issue on streaming of not even supporting surround sound. Less of a problem on netflix but a huge problem on Hulu and other network apps like ABC, CBS, etc. It’s pathetic in 2022.

With Apple its an automatic given that picture and sound quality is top notch compared to competitors (if you have the right equipment and care about such things of course).
I doubt Apple will want to be buying contents like Netflix. No matter how much money Apple threw in, they wouldn't match Netflix' catalog. And these licensing deals cost a lot of money. That's why everyone are doing their own "originals" nowadays. Apple is not a company that likes to lose money like that. You would be surprised the kind of money these OTTs like Netflix throwing to get contents. Apple probably would rather use those money on their original content.

I don’t bother with the 4K subscription, the standard is more than enough and decent quality. I think people get sucked in to the marketing and pay more than they need to.
This must be coming from someone watching on laptop/mobile phone only.

Everyone else - especially those with LG OLED TV sets - will just laugh at your statement and enjoy "The Witcher" in its full 4K Dolby Vision perfection. (Yes, I know Apple TV+ offers that, too. Alas the catalogue of Apple TV+ is really a bummer. "See" is that one of a kind series that Netflix offers several tens of).

While I am not impressed with the price hike one can not argue about Netflix in-house productions as most of them are perfect experiences (depending on your taste).

That's the issue though, most of Netflix's own content is drivel, I'm not alone in thinking that. Some of it is good but not all. And not have any Disney content makes for poor value.
They IMO can't justify this increase again in price so quickly after the last one.
It's all relative to the content you want to watch I guess. I enjoy some things on Netflix but Disney Plus and Amazon Prime for me are better value because of what I watch. For now I'll keep all three but if they begin to become too expensive then I'll have to reconsider my options.
Well...I sure know it's a matter of personal taste but I just came to think of all the precious content I watched over time on Netflix that simply is astonishing.

The Witcher is a definite must-see for all audiences (my wife enjoys it more than me - she's not into the games and therefore not pissed off by the actor they chose for Triss). If you're more into cynical comedy go for "After Life". I could rattle on about lots of special shows and I haven't even touched the local productions (like the German series "Dark" or "How to sell drugs online").

No I watch Netflix on a 50” LG 4K compatible TV mainly. Don’t assume.

The standard high definition quality is fine for my tastes, therefore I see little point paying £10 more a month for a slightly crisper picture. People can laugh at that all they like as it makes no difference to me .

I've been doing that for a few years but I suspect Netflix are likely to increase the cost of subscriptions in Turkey given the currency volatility. Was initially paying £6 per month for 4K, but last month paid £3.40 (amount fluctuates each month according to exchange rate). Current rate in the UK is £13.99 for 4K tier.

Geeze, this is ridiculous.

The least Netflix can do is offer 4K across all tiers, differentiated only by # of simultaneous streams.
Agree. At least apple+ Has a single tier. I’m also surprise no streaming service offers 8K at all. Why are people even buying 8K TVs if nothing supports native 8K for streaming or even blue rays? Seems a massive waste of money people are spending.

If the 4K plan meant EVERYTHING was in 4K then maybe - but it's not. It should be called the 'Some titles in 4K plan but you still pay top tier pricing' plan...
It says that in the fine print on the Netflix plan page. That not all content is in 4K.

It's an absolute joke that Netflix Basic program doesn't even offer 1080p HD as part of the package. Do they think we are all stuck in 2006? If they decide to add HD quality to the basic package then I have no issue with the price hike.

Once upon a time it was.... but if you never changed plans I believe you never lost the HD stream unless you canceled and came back.

So many streamers still don't even off 4K at all (Looking at you Hulu) or very limited. HBO Max is awful with that... and things dont stay in 4K. When Tennant was in theaters and on HBO max it was 4K, now it's just in HD.

The majority of people don't own 4K TV's, so I see the logic in branching it out (even though I'm stuck paying more). Since the orange man's administration killed net neutrality, companies have to pay a lot more money to operators for 4K streams so Netflix's cost for delivering 4K is higher. This is why YouTube TV charges an add on for 4K content because their cost to deliver to the end user is higher. Close to double.
Most TV’s sold on the market are 4K. Do you have any data to back that up?

And net neutrality only benefited the internet provider and hurt consumers.

i would say Apple tv+ is the most woke, and id have thought disney was closer.

No one wants to watch commercials. No one wants to watch TV content that is censored by the FCC. No one wants to pay for 1000 channels full of infomercials and pay-per-view garbage.

Although the numbers are declining thanks to more and more (and cheaper) alternatives, there are still around 75 to 80 million households in the U.S. with pay cable/satellite TV plans.

High quality original content? What are you referring to exactly? Most of the shows get whacked after two seasons so they don’t have to pay the actors more (this is documented) and I can’t think of any movie that went mainstream.

When’s the last time you were bragging about an awesome show, someone asked where they could watch it, and you said Netflix? Years…
Nah I’ve seen plenty of awesome shows this year. Brand New Cherry Flavor, archive 81, Witcher, big mouth, sex education, Locke & key, the stranger, shadow & bone, umbrella academy, black mass, sweet tooth, squid game, castlevania and so on and so forth… basically Netflix puts out more high quality content in one year than my entire life of tv watching before it existed lol

They're holding 4K hostage on the premium price, because they know that people will pay it to get 4K. If they put it on the middle price many would switch to that.

Which has long been pretty common with products and services. In order to get "A" you need to buy the higher level package, version or whatever that has "A and B". Some people subscribe to Standard or Premium not because of the HD or Ultra HD but because of the increased number of screens you can use simultaneously while others subscribe because of the HD or Ultra HD and not the screen count.
