Haven't seen any ramifications from this yet, as my brother and I share an account in two different locations here in the US. Sounds like it takes 30 days though, although I'm not entirely sure how this works. If Netflix does try to charge us extra, we will cancel. Netflix is trash compared to how it used to be anyway. No loss here.
So you’re paying for a service whose product is trash. Show Netflix who is boss and cancel now. They will catch up with you.

Ugh can’t they just release a Stranger Things blu ray so I don’t need to keep paying? I like to re-watch stuff often and Stranger Things has been my favorite show in the last few years.
I’m surprised streaming services ever release blu rays of anything. I’ve come to realize it’s often times cheaper to buy a show or movie on blu ray than sign up for a streaming service that I wind up keeping for 6 months because I don’t want to take the time to binge.

It's funny how streaming companies are losing customers, so now they're putting the squeeze on remaining customers hoping to stop the bleed.

I really, really hope people cancel Netflix and don't put up with this ****. I did last year when they pulled Star Trek. The password sharing crackdown just vindicated my decision. Then they raised prices, twice. Now HBO Max is raising prices again and charging for 4K.

There are a lot of people who don't watch much but keep subscriptions active because their friends/family are still using them. Those people are likely to cancel now when Netflix tries to charge them more.

At some point people ask themselves "is this really worth it?" and unsubscribe. I can see people subscribing to watch certain shows, then cancelling afterwards.

At one point streaming looked like it was going to be the answer to insanely expensive cable TV subscriptions. Now it's turning out to cost more if you want to be able to watch everything, and it's making old school cable subscriptions look affordable again.
From all indications Netflix doesnt seem to be doing that bad. I think as much as there is a vocal minority on MR that’s all it is. Hyperbole. People who think Netflix content is garbage should cancel. Why waste money on garbage?

It appears Netflix would rather have a solid user base than have all this password sharing. We’ll see where it goes but the faux outrage has to go.

I wonder if Netflix lists all the IP addresses an account is accessed from? I wonder how many people have a friend or family member pirating off of their Netflix account and don't know it.

It has already resulted in increased revenue in other regions
That is unfortunate news. The thing that may change it though is if other streaming companies see this work in the U.S. they may try the same thing, so one company doing this may work. I don't know what will happen if all of the streaming services did the same thing since a $7 change (or similar) change across those mean a much higher monthly streaming bill.

You mean thieves.

That's what people should be doing.

People complaining are just lazy. Steaming services are not interested in being cheap enough that you can keep all of them active 24/7 and still be less $$ than cable.

People should stop being lazy and manage their streaming subs, here is a basic formula:

10 Subscribe to service with content you like
20 Consume all of the content
30 Cancel subscription
40 Goto 10

Netflix has done the analysis. Unfortunately they believe they will gain more revenue than they will lose with this change. So people complaining, including myself who lives alone but shared my account with my elderly parents (and now just my mom since my Dad passed) who live 5 miles away and barely watched before I cancelled, are wasting their breath.

+100%. Remember that the internet is 99.9% negative on everything. Notice how MR crowd is labeling Netflix as trash to justify their outrage.

Using pirate sites to get the shows using Torrents is one thing, but 1) ISP's have been cracking down hard on accessing such sites and 2) using a torrent program is not a job for neophyte computer users.

Oh no, not the crackdown! 😧

*hides under bed and cowers*

Just kidding, I treat Netflix like I do all streaming services: temporarily subscribe to watch a specific show, and I haven’t used Netflix since Chef’s Table Pizza. 🤔

Same in France, extra €5.99 a month for outsiders.
Luckily I have Apple TV+ to fullfill all my desires
I rec’d email from Apple yesterday advising me that my Apple TV+ subscription renewal in July would be approx 40% higher than it costs now! I cancelled immediately. Sent TC a Twitter post saying IMHO programming did not improve by 40%. Real $ amount immaterial ($20/yr incr) but the point of Apple’s greed annoyed me enough to cancel.
