Netflix is waiting to see how many people ditch their service for Disney’s offering.

I don't fully understand the "Disney offering". Wouldn't it just be Disney content? Who wants an entire channel dedicated to just one provider's content? People want selection. I, for one, would never subscribe to just a "Disney channel". It's no different than old-fashioned cable services that sell channels. Nobody wants that in this digital age. They want single sign-on with a seamless experience.

The competition for content is a short term abberation from new entrants in a short timeframe. The prices of new content will return to normal or even drop as people settle into the things they are already used to. Netflix recently increased my monthly price about $2 without advance notice I could comprehend. I am going to keep using it out of inertia. I have Netflix on my Apple TV, so I don't know what all the hype is about.

Am I about to loose it on older ATV's?

I think a lot of people don't really know what Disney is. They think it's just Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse cartoons.

Here is a list of Disney films, not counting Fox or ABC TV content:

Apple streaming, Netflix, Amazon streaming, Hulu, CBS All Access, HBO Now, Disney streaming, … the more the number of services, the less content each will have. The Netflix format of yesterday is what Apple wants to be? Renting content from others! Is that how Disney will be?

This will be good - the more the competition, the cheaper each service will be.

Netflix! don't be like Spotify someday.

Keep this "You do your best job when you have great competitors," instead whining about competitors.

..such as avoiding every opportunity to make their service more streamlined for users on the AppleTV. Sure it's their prerogative to do whatever they like with their own services, but I always smell B/S when they refuse to implement even basic stuff that has no bearing on competition, and even makes their service easier to access.

I don't understand the user hostility here. Even if you are part of the Apple TV app your users would still have to subscribe to you. Someone is putting too much stock in their algorithm driving eyeballs to different shows to augment it with Apple TV integration methinks.

Tim Cook - update your app to support our tv app and we will drop our App Store Cut to 5%, plus we will let users subscribe directly through the app.

You are either in, or you are out. Right here, right now.

Help me understand. Are you also suggesting that Apple should offer their content on Netflix? Do you think this is going to happen?

Netflix doesn't want to give Apple 50% of their revenue to act as an automatic paywall sign in? That's surprising.

Netflix is entertaining for a month or so until you're left with the dregs. Then you've got to (cancel) and come back in another 6 months to see if there's anything new. No reason to expect Apple's TV offering to fair much better. Hit TV shows are exceedingly rare...but sometimes they happen.

FWIW, it was announced back in January in a lot of media outlets.

As long as Netflix continues to have the most annoying IOS app (forced audio preview) I will always look elsewhere for programming. I relish the day that Netflix dies.

Netflix is on every possible platform it can be on, Android, Smart TVs, the web, iOS, etc. so that has me wondering, is Apple going to license their content for distribution through anyone else for those platforms or will they make apps for them and compete like Netflix?
Or try to use the service to lure (or keep?) users on their hardware?

Netflix will be spotified.

Netflix tried that move way back and learned that it would get them nowhere when they refused to provide service to Mac users and just put up a snarky little screen blaming Apple that Mac users couldn't watch Netflix on Safari.

They eventually got off their butts and developed their service and did it right. Spotify should take note.

Okay, this is fine, and expected (not sure, honestly, what this is saying could have happened??), but I think we can all agree that not allowing me to integrate the Netflix subscription that I PAY NETFLIX FOR into my TV App is just a dick move and nothing else. All it does is make it easier for me to use Hulu and Amazon Video and spend less time on Netflix. Their loss.

I always wondered why Netflix didn’t show up in the up next section of my Apple TV.

I am seeing Netflix on my ATV 4K right now. Are you not seeing the Netflix App in your ATV or other devices? Did I misunderstand your sentence?

Until Apple Video Streaming flops and then buys out Netflix for billions.

Apple could, and DID, do worse. They bought Beats.

Netflix will be much more expensive - even if it crashes a year after all the new streamers are in full service.

[QUOTE="MacRumors, post: 27193484, member: At a briefing at the company's headquarters in Hollywood, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said … " Netflix isn't interested in offering its content on other platforms. "We want to have people watch our shows on our services," he said, according to Recode. [/QUOTE]

Did Apple ask Netflix or offer to host Netflix under its streaming service? If not, why is Hastings make such a statement?
