I wonder what price will give them peak profits? A very few might cancel if the price goes up but most people will pay ANYTHING. TV is actually addictive and quite a few people can't stop. It is like if you ask an alcoholic to try an experiment and stop drinking for a week. He will say, "I could but I don't have a problem and I don't want to stop"

So many TV watchers when asked to try the one-week experiment say "I could but I don't have a problem and I don't want to stop"

They are pricing the service to get the tech geeks to spring for the $25 4K plan and everyone else to go on the ads tier as they can make more money selling ads.

I guess people describing old crimes over slow pans of stock footage and hiring people to pretend to argue over their relationships must cost more than I think.

Seriously, though, while there is some actual good stuff on Netflix, it seems like the vast majority of content is cheap reality stuff and that there is far less worthwhile content there now than there was when a subscription cost like half as much (and didn't have incredibly annoying, badly-timed ads--at least the ad breaks on network TV are positioned where the writers expected them to be).

I still have a subscription because it comes with my T-Mobile plan, but if I was actually paying for it I'd have cancelled years ago.
The Asian series are good, and they also have some anime.
I’ll keep it as long as T-Mobile pays for it.

Glad I dumped Netflix and went with a jail broken Apple TV and never looked back.

In 9 years, the price has gone from $12/mo to $25/mo.

That's a 108% increase.

That's 8.5% yearly inflation for 9 years in a row.

Yes, but I believe the $11.99/month for "Premium" dates back to 2013 so it's really more like 12 years or an average of around 6% per year. Even though they may have kept the price $11.99 through October 2015 doesn't mean "inflation" didn't count between 2013 and 2015.

Pass the popcorn. This should be about the ninth time everyone is about to promise they are quitting Netflix. I don't know how to quit more than one time but many of us seem to know how to quit 9 or so times. Impressive! ;)
Some. Quite a few of us were in a sense subsidizing our relatives, but have been without NETFLIX for almost 2 years now. It will just take a while I guess, cause I DEFINITELY can afford it but have principles. Such is life.

Cancelled Netflix last month in Australia. Was paying $25.99 a month and not much to watch. Plus really want to get away from sitting around and get out more. They will at some point price people out. It’s pure greed.

Who’s gonna be next to increase? Disney, Max?

My money is on Disney to recoup from the flops they’ve been releasing
Disney + in Australia for their premium tier went from $139.99 a year to $179.99 a year. Originally paid $89.90 a year for it when it came out. And they do not expand their catalogue much. Plus password sharing crackdown now.

Yeah, and then content increased in production and licensing costs and companies had to adjust their prices to compensate. We live in a society where capitalism is the norm. That’s never going to change lol.
Yes but seems more rife in the US. Everything comes from the US and they are nickel and diming the world.

Has nobody heard of Stremio? I’m surprised so many people still pay for Netflix / etc.
Tim Apple sent me a private invite for the Insider Preview of Apple iStream Pro, so I can get all that and more for free with my iStream Pro subscription of only $99 per month.

I'll keep hanging on for a while longer, they have generally very good programming and some good movies.

Is $18 monthly really that outrageous though? Premium cable channels like HBO or Starz will cost you about $15, right?
Yes. Especially when it's $25/month for 4K. Plus Hulu, plus Apple TV+, plus Disney+... I'm sick of this ****. Love me a home server these days.

meanwhile Apple TV has a couple great shows that are mostly worth the price just for them.
No need to pay for a subscription between now and when Silo season 3 is out then :)

Netflix is the same way, a few great shows like Squid Games and Dark but most of the time I just don't need it.

Or, hear me out...instead of subscribing just for one or two shows, why not buy an ultra high quality offline copy of that specific show which can be watched anytime, for a single one-time fee. And why not have it come on a physical disk, so you can put it on your shelf as an accomplishment for having watched said show, or even sell it on to the next person to make some money back on it. Just a thought.
