If you’re going to raise the price, renew Sense8.

Oh god, please no.

That show went down the crapper. It started out as a cool sci-fi series with a serious undertone, turned into a lame comedy (the benny hill type music when Lito is crying to Sun about his career), horrible writing (just look at all the ridiculous fawning over eachother between Nomi and Amanita, they've been together for years and still act like a couple of immature lovebird high schoolers that just started dating), and the excessive time wasting crap like the overwhelming amount of music montages and sex scenes, ie; Capheus going to see that reporter just to get laid took SEVEN MINUTES.

This isn’t good, and it will get to the point where it’s simply unacceptable. They are taking away the “why not” aspect that Netflix used to have. People may still say that when paying for just a month but renewal is what Netflix needs to be battling for.

I started watching Netflix because of the wide array of movies and TV shows they had, but now it seems like all they have is original content -- which to me isn't that bad, but also not worth it. They're turning themselves into an internet channel and IMO, HBO Now offers better content. There's only so many streaming services I'm willing to subscribe to.

Why is SD still a thing...

It isn't. It's like saying 16GB on an iPhone was a thing. It's a money grab to force customers into a higher and more expensive plan much like when Apple eliminated the 32GB iPhone option and left users with a choice between 16GB and 64GB.

Not surprising. My two free years ends in March from buying two S7 Edge phones. Once that ends, I'm cancelling. I'm not into the TV shows and the movies are pure garbage. Can't tell you how many movies I tried to watch over the past year and gave up 15-30 minutes in.

I've never watched Netflix on any iPhone or iPad I've owned, it was always on my ATV2.

Just changed our subscription to the bottom level, saving $36 a year!

Netflix knows they are by far still the best game in town. There is a tipping point where users will abandon ship....but we're not there yet.

Meanwhile cable companies are still asleep at the wheel and letting Netflix eat their lunch.

Netflix would still be a deal @ $20 a month. It's come a really long way from the time you could watch all the content you wanted to watch in a month then cancel for a few months. Now, it's impossible to keep up with the huge amount of great content. $10.99 is still an incredible deal.

I think the most interesting thing about Netflix if the multiple streams per package. Like if you split it with a few people it's insanely cheap. My family shares the 4 plan streaming package and that still ends up being less than $4 a month per person. Now if I had to pay $14 a month by myself to get UHD streaming well that would be a different conversation, but since we share it I guess it's not a huge deal.

how about you give me a lower tier plan that doesn’t include all the netflix originals...?

That would be great. When I subscribed to Netflix, it was for movies and shows that I already know and like, not some new crappy Adam Sandler "exclusive" movie or a prison comedy. I don't want to pay increased prices so they can go off into experimentation land and become a studio making things I'm not interested in watching.

I agree 100%. The artifice was amazing, but the writing was horrible. HORRIBLE. I started out a big fan, and then just dropped it. Ugh.

And clearly, we're not alone, which is why Netflix killed it. Clearly, the fanbase for high concept/special effects with NOTHING else is pretty small.

Netflix, $13.99
Hulu, $7.99
DirecTVNow, $35
YouTube Red, $9.99
Amazon, $8.25
= $75 a month

Yeah, take that Comcast. Cord cutting is WAY cheaper than having just one bill with 250 channels.

I don't think cord cutting is just about money. If I want to watch a certain movie, I can just go to one of the services and most likely stream it. Same with shows.

Can Comcast do that? Can I decide to watch a show when I want to and not care about when THEY decide I want to watch it?

Not surprising. Didn't expect them to be able to invest over $1 billion this year in original content without continued price hikes. We'll continue to see these happen every 6-months to year going forward.

I keep Netflix for as long as it's a value to me. For instance, I'm (slowly) going through Star Trek TOS. I want to see the episodes but don't want to own them as I'll only watch them once. So Netflix is a good value: I can watch those plus other content for less than the Star Trek box set on Amazon.

I don't get the outrage...of course prices are going to go up on occasion, it is literally only a dollar extra a month, you don't have commercials, you have a decent selection of things to watch, and its not $80+ dollars a month like cable is.

A dollar here a dollar there, not long before we see significant cost increases. What is significant about Netflix price increase, over the top service for everyone, including cable users. Decision time, is Netflix really worth the price. Everyone has to make their own decision.

Wonder what this means for T-Mobile's netflix on us... will they cover the price increase?

Edit: According to their twitter help they will still cover the cost of the standard plan

They keep removing dozens of tv shows and movies every month (hundreds annually), and they want to increase their price?!

Hulu and Amazon are way better it seems by the day.

They aren't going to continue to pay the expensive licensing rights to others for their content. Instead they're shifting to their own content, which will cost them less in the long run. Original content costs more to create upfront but then they don't have to pay ongoing licensing rights. You get someone hooked on original content, and you're the only source they can pay to get it.
