"The basic plan that limits quality to standard definition continues to be $8.99 a month"

Why does this thing still exist?
Extremely cost-sensitive customers.

It's better to get $8.99 a month from them than $0. Plus, the reduced resolution video saves on CDN costs. Win win!

If own a 4K TV and can't afford $2 a month then your time is probably not best spent watching TV anyway.
Netflix's UHD tier launched at $11.99. $17.99 represents 50% price increase in 6.5 years.

And these $"$2 is just a cup of coffee" talk is frankly becoming tiresome. Not drinking coffee here and there can add up to a significant amount of money.

Price is getting a little ridiculous, and as a single person, it's absurd that I have to subscribe to the highest tier with 4 screens in order to get 4k. Hence the account sharing.

I'd really like to see a two screen 4k/HDR plan added. I'm on their premium plan, but we have no use for four screens since it's only my wife and I who have access. Our TV in the family room is 4K, so I don't wan to lose that by downgrading our plan either.

I figured it was about that time for Netflix to hike up prices again.

Many people have datacaps so this exists to limit the amount they stream.

And to be honest, if you are just watching it on a living room TV, you don't need 4K/HDR to enjoy it. The real benefits of HDR is watching movies in the dark and getting your eyes fried when a day light screen comes on haha.

This is why I buy all my movies on iTunes when they hit their lowest price ever, typically 5 dollars a movie, and buy with iTunes Giftcards I buy in bulk with usually a 20% discount (Black Friday). Making the final price to $4 dollars a movie.

250 4K movies I’ll own basically forever (synced with Movies Anywhere) for the same price as 4 years of a Netflix subscription.

So many movies I’ll just close my eyes and pick a random one, and voila, my iTunes library is basically like Netflix.

Cancelled my Netflix UK prices are becoming a joke we are paying £11.99 a month hardly anything to watch Disney+ only charging £5.99 4K streaming.. Netflix are pricing themselves out of competition.

That’s great, maybe they can actually “pay a little more” (i.e. more than nothing) as far as federal income tax here in the U.S.

Christ, even Trump paid 750 bucks per in a couple of years.

What a joke.

I think the last worthwhile Netflix Original was Patriot Act, and they cancelled that so...

IDK. Seems like a poor move on Netflix's part.

I don't mind the price hike more people are home now and with the second wave of Covid coming even more people will be inside and Netflix and really any business should capitalize on that.

That’s an odd move. After Disney+ came in and surprised everyone with their price (and streaming quality) I thought Netflix and the others would lower their prices.

Our family and several others I know (with kids) canceled Netflix when Disney+ came.

I miss Netflix but we haven’t got the time to watch all that content anyway, so we can’t justify paying for an extra (and twice as expensive) service that we hardly use (plus we get cable + HBO bundled from our internet provider).

I have access to Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime. Yet, I find myself spending most of my night streaming time with Netflix. I hate paying more like everybody else but I think I can stomach the price hike.

I was with Netflix when they mailed DVDs to your house and when the infamous Mr. Hastings said if they don't like the price hike then they can leave, and that is what I did and never looked back. There are plenty of options out there and some are free. Netflix has gone downhill and I am not surprised they are raising the price.

I still enjoy it enough that I'll begrudgingly pay it (a service or product's worth/value is the max someone is willing to pay for it, so....touché)

I think I've subconsciously avoided browsing Netflix because their autoplay crap is so aggressive. Net result: I don't open the app much. Other net result: I might cancel because I haven't watched anything on Netflix in months.
