I think Netflix has reached a point where they’re pricing themselves too far outside of their competitors. It‘s ridiculous they tack on a surcharge for 4K content when most of their key competitors don’t. At the very least, they need to stop limiting their standard plan to 2 screens. I‘m probably going to downgrade to the standard plan.

As the value proposition increase fee increases are expected.

But 27%+ in less than 24 months raises an eyebrow. Not saying it isn't justified as demand for 4k increases but they have to be careful.

Anyone who goes full-indigence over this is certainly over dramatizing it.
Assuming the value proposition increased. I can't say Netflix's value has increased at all in the last few years. It has dropped in quality, a lot of shows are leaving, and the high quality shows can't get beyond a third season anymore.

over $2? If you own an iphone, I find it hard to imagine that you can't afford $2. Netflix does provide some of the best content out there on a pretty consistent basis.
That’s $24 over a year. It’s not much but still a sizable amount. Netflix‘s content hasn‘t grabbed much of my attention lately because they cancelled or lost access to some of my favorite shows, and the price increase just makes it even less appealing. I will probably end up cancelling when Parks and Rec and the office goes offline at the end of the year.

I always knew going away from Cable would end up biting us all. Now we have 20 different streaming services all with content locked behind their service, costing more than Cable did if you want all of it.
Pick and choose if you want lower prices.

Yeah how about no. My trial expires Nov 3. After that it’s just generating CCs for endless trials.

I don't either. Still rocking a 1080p TV... bit 480p is abysmal. So yes... te criticism is sound. Worst case ANYONE has... is a 720p TV. Or else it is so old it cannot "have" Netflix, because dou cannot connect anything to it.
There are a lot of people (especially older ones) who are on a budget and can’t afford or don’t want to pay $19 a month for Netflix. I don’t know why people are arguing with me over the obvious. Like it or not, some people are fine with watching tv that isn’t in HD.

That's the dumbest thing ever.

1. There is a plan in the middle, not just the 4k alternative
2. The problem is, that the basic plan is 480p, when it should at the very least be 720p as there are NO TVs with 480p screens that support Netflix in any way.

Some people don’t want to pay for HD. I don’t care if you think that is stupid. It is fact. Some even have 720p tv and still don’t want to pay for HD from Netflix. Not everyone does the same as you or others here. You aren’t paying their bills so stop worrying about what doesn’t affect you.

Also, you can no longer stream on a mobile device unless you pay for the premium plan?! Wtf Netflix!

I think Netflix just took a page out of the Xfinity‘s playbook.

NetFlix knows the pain threshold of their customers and have projected how much they could raise rates without losing revenue due to customer melt. It gets me wondering if this is a component of their negotiations with content providers... they could negotiate lower rates to get the content if there are fewer subscribers... then offer incentives to add new customers after the contracts are in place.

I'm still customer. My wife is hesitant to drop Netflix so I indulge her, but I have so many other ways of legitimately getting streaming content... and that for free, that I never watch Netflix.

I'm old school... I grew up with non-cable, OTA TV. I don't mind commercials as long as they're not a significant percentage of the viewing time and I'm not paying for the service. Given that, it is natural that I have an OTA antenna w/DVR, and watch ad-supported streaming services like Pluto TV, Stirr, Airy TV, Tubi, and a few others I can't remember at the moment.

$2 this year and assumingely another $2 in the next few years adds up. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this. I get Netflix for free, otherwise I have plenty of other options for cheaper, better content.

The timing of this, in the middle of a pandemic, is shameless.
