I have access to Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime. Yet, I find myself spending most of my night streaming time with Netflix. I hate paying more like everybody else but I think I can stomach the price hike.

I currently have Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Prime, and Criterion Channel (my favorite).

"a little bit more"....

And is it my imagination, or is Netflix original content totally B-movie schlock? Netflix is the new grindhouse!

It's not your imagination...the vast majority of Netflix originals are total trash, and they don't have much good non-original content. They definitely aren't delivering more value than before.

And I love how the COO says they "occasionally" raise prices...this is, what, the third price hike in as many years?

This is how they keep the prices low in countries like India by raising prices in US. Not sure how long Netflix will last.

Another Price Hike?! This really stinks. They are cancelling all the good shows quickly and then asking people to pay more. For what? So they can keep cancelling good shows? 😢
I saw some canceled to soon articles concerning the current practice of seeing how many people watch a show and 28 days later stats that Netflix uses to judge a shows value, this doesn’t allow the show to get enough exposure for maintaining multiple seasons. I just noticed a show that was coming out in weekly episodes like it does on Disney +, and HBO max, so maybe Netflix is finally realizing that binge watching for brand new content is detrimental to the money invested, as well as to the content producers. :)

This is why I buy all my movies on iTunes when they hit their lowest price ever, typically 5 dollars a movie, and buy with iTunes Giftcards I buy in bulk with usually a 20% discount (Black Friday). Making the final price to $4 dollars a movie.

250 4K movies I’ll own basically forever (synced with Movies Anywhere) for the same price as 4 years of a Netflix subscription.

So many movies I’ll just close my eyes and pick a random one, and voila, my iTunes library is basically like Netflix.
I do the same thing, every week I look to see what movies are on sale I also get movies for Vudu also.

I think it’s funny. People complain about $24 more a year? You’re getting new content, new shows. Costs of doing business go up, that’s part of life. The people complaining will still be with Netflix guaranteed.
not true, I left Netflix when they did the first price hike and I never returned. it's about the principle, not the price.

Paying just a little bit more? $15.99 to $17.99 for the 4K plan is not a little more, it's 13% more. Inflation was not 13% in 2020, and considering there was not much new content due to Covid, it's just pure greed.
It’s impressive you know what Netflix cost of business is. Does your crystal ball tell you anything else?

"The basic plan that limits quality to standard definition continues to be $8.99 a month"

Why does this thing still exist?
For the often-forgotten population of mostly elderly folks who live on fixed income, for one. I can think of quite a few people in this demographic who still have their CRT televisions that they're just fine with (or that they can't afford to replace). They also often live in rural places where internet is slow and OTA TV is spotty at best.

That’s fine. You’re entitled to leave whenever you want. But the reality is most people won’t leave over a $2.00 hike when Netflix continues to invest into its platform.

mediocre content ...all of my friends share their accounts in order to split the cost...I personally activate it for shows like stranger things ...

This 2019 stats will illustrate how much Netflix spends. It hasn’t decreased.

Find 3 friends/relatives. Have each pay for one service and share the accounts. Nearly every service supports multiple profiles these days.

I always knew going away from Cable would end up biting us all. Now we have 20 different streaming services all with content locked behind their service, costing more than Cable did if you want all of it.

My grandfathered T-Mobile One plan includes Netflix. T-Mobile covers $10.99 and I am paying $5 extra for HD. $7/month isn’t too bad for me given there are some content I really enjoy. I would say that I watch more content on Netflix vs Amazon Prime.

You guys think you are getting screwed? I'm paying 23.90$ over here in Switzerland...

What I see here is that many people share a subscription, seems logical, otherwise it's just too expensive.
Most of them share it with 4 people, the maximum allowed.

I for one though couldn't care less about Netflix not even TV, I find my content somewhere else and have more Hobbies/interesting things to do.

Netflix today announced a price increase, which will make the standard and premium plans more expensive, while pricing on the entry-level plan remains the same.

The basic plan that limits quality to standard definition continues to be $8.99 a month, but the standard plan will now be priced at $13.99 (up from $12.99), and the premium plan will now be priced at $17.99 (up from $15.99).

The standard plan lets people watch in 1080p quality and includes streaming on two screens, but those who want to watch 4K Netflix content or watch on up to four screens at a time need to subscribe to the most expensive premium plan.

Netflix previously raised prices in January 2019, raising the cost of the standard tier from $10.99 to $12.99 and the cost of the premium tier from $13.99 to $15.99.

The changes will take effect immediately for new customers who sign up to Netflix, and current customers will see the updated prices on their bills over the course of the next two months, according to CNBC. Customers will get a 30 day warning prior to the price hike.

During the last Netflix earnings call, Netflix COO Greg Peters said that if Netflix is delivering more value for users, then there is "an opportunity to occasionally go back" and ask members "to pay a little bit more."

The fact that they still ripping people off by charging extra for 4K is pretty disgusting. Makes me even more glad that I’m using somebody else’s login now.

Dumped Netflix a couple months back, haven't looked back. Very happy with the amount of content on Amazon Prime, AppleTV+ and HBO Max which are all "free" services to me at the moment. Might get back on Netflix for a month a year, binge anything new and then cancel.

I don't like it, but I'm going to pay it. Honestly, my irritation isn't towards the dollar amount, the principle of it, or even towards Netflix. What pisses me off is that all these things now cost a couple bucks more a month. And apps that I paid for are converting to subscription models that are only a couple bucks a month. And basic functionality like garage door openers having remotes now don't, but they're "smart" now and that only costs a couple bucks a month. But my paycheck? LOL, that's not going up. Not even a couple bucks a month, and this is another reminder of it.
