Why enable “features” that will be abused and are only wanted by some?
And don’t tell me that that would not get abused, cause 90+% of iPhone users just click on their social media apps and have no idea…
I don’t know. I don’t care. I probably wouldn’t use most of those features, so it would have zero impact on me.

If you want to use your iPhone to prop up a wobbly table, go for it. If you want to replace iOS with DOS and use it to play nothing but DOOM all day, have at it. It’s your phone. Go wild.

To each their own, we do have choices

Because people who pay upwards of a thousand dollars for a piece of tech should be able to do as they please with it?

What would it cost you? No one would force you to venture outside the comforts of the walled garden if you didn’t want to, after all. You could continue to only load the apps Apple says are safe (even though the App Store remains rife with scams, but that’s a whole other conversation).

I’ll never understand why some people get so angry or feel so threatened by other people having choices open to them that don’t affect them in any way.
You do have a choice when choosing the iPhone you know it’s a closed ecosystem. Why wouldn’t you buy one of the many phones created by multiple manufacturers that run android and give your more freedom of sideloading is important to you.

Windows, Android, and Linux are all much more open than iOS, and they’ve been in use by hundreds of millions of people every day for years without the world ending.

Apple doesn’t keep iOS locked down tight for you and me, they keep it locked down tight because that makes them a great deal of basically free money.

If I cared about that stuff, I would. But I don’t.

Some people do care, though, and why people get so angry at them for advocating for what they see as improvements in a product they love is quite puzzling to me.

Like I said, if sideloading and competing app stores came to iOS, no one would force you to use them.

Yes, and you show me how you can use Windows without having to run anti-virus?
And Linux from a desktop/laptop perspective is an absolute niche (opposed to the server world)…
You have the choice to go Android I’d that functionality is important to you, there are great phones out there just as good as the iPhone…

My last window machine didn’t use any antivirus or malware. Never a problem. Use common sense

Flip it around.

How would it impact you if other people had the option to sideload apps?

Would you feel compelled to do it, too? Would someone force you?

I don’t get it why you’d care if you didn’t plan to do it. I don’t get why you’d care what other people were doing with phones they’d paid for just like you paid for yours.

I don’t care about sideloading. But the thought of someone else wanting to do it also doesn’t make me inexplicably angry.

Because many apple fans bring feelings into it. Don’t hurt my feelings by opening up iOS. Lol

I never use antivirus on my Windows gaming machine.

You know why? Because I don’t visit sketchy websites and install software whose provenance I’m uncertain of. I’m a big boy. I can manage my own security without some big tech company holding my hand and telling me what’s best for me.

Might something still get through? Sure. Just like all the horrible No-user-interaction-required iOS exploits Apple recently patched.

Amazing how hard this is for some so-called tech people to understand.

Not really competing against Apple Arcade if it’s only on android.

The thinking seems to be that because there are people in the world too dumb not to stare up at the sky and drown in a heavy rain, the rest of us should never be allowed outside either. For our own good, apparently?
Bingo. Never underestimate peoples stupidity when they bring in emotions into things

Ha! Netflix won’t survive. Good luck. Apple Arcade is way too good.

They are going after PS5, XBOX and other major gaming competitors.

Never heard anyone use the word "good" to describe Apple Arcade.
