Still think it’s a flop?

Apple's profits from gaming outweighed those of major game companies, according to a report, with Apple earning more from App Store games in its 2019 fiscal year than Nintendo, Microsoft, Activision Blizzard, and Sony combined.

Apple makes money by claiming a percentage of micro transactions. Arcade is DOA.

Windows, Android, and Linux are all much more open than iOS, and they’ve been in use by hundreds of millions of people every day for years without the world ending.

Apple doesn’t keep iOS locked down tight for you and me, they keep it locked down tight because that makes them a great deal of basically free money.
Don't forget how open macOS is too. It weirds me out the people that think the world will end by opening up iOS, because Apple "cares about privacy and security", as if they don't even know that macOS exists.

Because people who pay upwards of a thousand dollars for a piece of tech should be able to do as they please with it?

What would it cost you? No one would force you to venture outside the comforts of the walled garden if you didn’t want to, after all. You could continue to only load the apps Apple says are safe (even though the App Store remains rife with scams, but that’s a whole other conversation).

I’ll never understand why some people get so angry or feel so threatened by other people having choices open to them that don’t affect them in any way.
This attitude is so extremely short-sighted. The issue is not that I don't want other people to be able to do what they want, the problem is that if companies are no longer required to adhere to Apple's strict rules, they won't bother. Every company will just start building things however they want and we will all have to just deal with it. You wanted to be able to side-load "the AirBnB of fashion sneakers" your "entrepreneur" roommate developed, and now I have no choice but to "side-load" all of my apps because now the companies can save/make a bunch of money by not having to fuss with such trivial matters like not selling my personal info or ensuring a secure code base.

The App Store is the same as with legislation that targets companies - it exists simply because without everybody needing to comply, nobody will.

What does it have to do with the Arcade? This money mostly comes from IAPs from games not on Arcade.

“Games available today include "Stranger Things: 1984," "Stranger Things 3: The Game," "Shooting Hoops," "Card Blast," and "Teeter Up."

Well, that just sounds absolutely riveting. I am sure they will steal marketshare with that compelling lineup. /s ?

Apple Arcade is pretty much a flop!

Not for me it isn’t. Lego Star Wars Battles is an awesome game. Between that game and Zen Pinball Party it’s worth the subscription. I’m a huge pinball fan and the Apple Arcade app is currently the ONLY way to access some of the pinball tables that Zen makes.

That Snoopy table tho’ LOL

Ha! Netflix won’t survive. Good luck. Apple Arcade is way too good.

They are going after PS5, XBOX and other major gaming competitors.

Legit can’t tell if you’re being serious or sarcastic.

I never found AA to be any good.
MHO….

Not that I would likely use NFA either.

Apple’s gaming profits are mainly from taking a 30% cut of in-app purchases. It’s sort of like saying Visa is the most profitable gaming company because people pay for their Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo purchases with a credit card.

I’m not denying that Apple makes a boatload of money from processing gaming payments, but I wouldn’t call them a gaming company just yet.

I don’t know about everyone else, but what I pay Netflix for is video content. If I wanted Apple Arcade, I’d be paying for it.
Agreed on this, this will only be met with yet another increase on the monthly bill in not long.

The demise of subscription based services… the idea is to get as much as possible or more from the pocket of the clients, so justify as much as possible by adding stuff that people didn’t ask for or might not need.

I kinda like Apple on this front… want music? Pay music. Want iCloud? Pay iCloud. games? Pay Apple Arcade… are using them all or most of all? Pay a bundle that’s a fraction of the total if paid separatedly. Want one person? Pay for that, want family? Choose the family option.
This? This is like photoshop… “here pay for this software that needed nothing new just fixing of the current bug ailments, but now it has 3D that nobody asked for, runs 10x slower than 10 years ago, the 3D is being deprecated again”, etc… makes me mad to be honest. Big portions of the industry are going wild with this.

For you maybe not but reality says otherwise. No AAA titles (only remade iOS junk titles), runs on subpar software & hardware etc. Then again it is only like $5 so you get what you pay for......

this is a /s, right?

you think it's not good enough to compete with apple arcade, so its competition is ps5, and xbox?

mate, apple arcade is fine, cool even. it is not good enough to compete with ps5 & xbox.

Don’t know which is worse, Apple Arcade or Netflix game streaming.
Who do they think they are tying to impress?

Either way both companies don‘t know AAA gaming, don‘t employ the people who know to lead AAA gaming and will not appeal to those who enjoy AAA gaming.

Neither are going to attract PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and soon to be Steam Deck/handheld PC gamers away from their devices for questionable selection of games dependent on one having to keep paying subscriptions and reliable Internet connections for gaming requirments (mostly in the case of Netflix) let alone the biggest issue being ownership of games.

Games as a good >>>> Games as a service.

keep playing, NOT keep paying.

“Apple Arcade is fine” LOL

but to be fair

Netflix game streaming is also LOL.

Sigh….. so how long before Apple bans Netflix and we have another version of “Apple vs Epic” lawsuit?

(It’s going to happen and it’s going to be ugly)

The titles Netflix is releasing here look like they’re made as a school project by an unmotivated student. Here’s to hoping that it will improve. Apple Arcade can sure use the competition.

Hahahahaah is this a joke man? Apple doesn’t have anything on PS5, Xbox or Nintendo. Top notch performing devices with mobile quality games.
I still question whether she’s a bot or a fake account to promote Apple’s brand. she replies on almost every article with really OTT comments

And yet somehow the billions of people who use the very sort of open system you're so terrified of on Android and ChromeOS and Linux and Windows and even macOS survive.

Weird, right? How what works for literally every other operating system just couldn't work for iOS?

iOS is locked down tight because that makes Apple lots of free money. That's it. That's the whole story.
