So staring begets stealing is the message here.

Then lower your sub. Netflix also saves money because they don’t have to transmit streams in 4K.

We don’t have Disney Or paramount or Hulu. But we have Netflix, so there is that.
I'm not justifying stealing. I'm saying that like Adobe knew, Netflix knows everyone is stealing but they are greatly benefitting from it because it ensures that millions have kept their accounts just so they could share with others who share with them. Now Netflix is removing that possibility because their shareholders no longer see stealing as theft instead of mutually assured beneficial theft. It's a big dog move - same reason Netflix doesn't participate in AppleTV's TV page of streaming services. They think they're too good or big for the rest of the streaming services but no one ever asked them to spend $20 billion/year on mostly garbage content.

Do…..people read threads on this site anymore? There are dozens of legit concerns here. Where are those “people expecting Netflix to be free”?
Exactly what I thought. It would be nice if everything didn't go up way faster than wages. Especially food. At most everything is a want, even though it is depressing to not be able to have nice things anymore.

They're going to get so many people canceling their accounts.. lol. The only reason I even have Netflix is because it's paid for as part of my T-Mobile service. I don't pay a dime for it.

No it isn't, stealing is stealing.

What you have is a complex ecosystem of thieves operating across multiple locations stealing from multiple services. Netflix is not disrupting your little ring of thieves, they just want to be paid for their service and content as per the TOS you agreed to.
First you say it's not complex and then you say it is. I'm not justifying theft, I'm explaining how it works and you act as if Netflix cares about legality or morality. Netflix only cares about profits and I'm saying they are being short-sighted here because they will gain some profits near term but will lose much more in revenues and subscribers in the long term.

What ever Netflix introduce it will always be abused because people will come up with reasons that will make it impossible for Netflix to control who is sharing what. a good example is if a family member moves away to college and uses their mobile phone to watch Netflix and their phone goes faulty so they want to watch Netflix on their laptop. They drop their laptop thereby breaking it and thus want to watch Netflix on desktop computer. 3 different devices all within a short timeframe and if the person is locked out of the account due to password sharing policy changes, that person is going to ring up Netfilx and complain.

This is how people getting around password controls on devices because they claim their issue is genuine, devices kept breaking and thus needed to use other devices to watch Netflix but in actual fact the password has been given out to friends which show up as different IP addresses and different mac addresses and when Netfilx investigate, the person sharing the passwords goes 'oh, it's only me and my family, we've had a number of devices go faulty so we've had to get new ones, hence the change in IP address and mac address.'

As i said, people will find ways to claim their password sharing is genuine when it actually isn't.

When you sign up for Disney Plus, your account can be associated with seven different profiles. The plan covers an entire household, with each member having their customized Disney Plus experiences. Plus, you can share your account with extended family or friends

Disney are fine with sharing, Netflix is going against the grain here.
Is Disney okay with multiple simultaneous streams against one profile? That’s the key issue one profile, one stream.

Stream video on up to 4 devices at the same time (each individual title can only be viewed on four devices at the same time).

First you say it's not complex and then you say it is.

Just using your words from post #175. "more complex than simply piracy" and "complex ecosystem". I don't think it is complex at all, if you share your account info in violation of the TOS then both you and the people you share with are stealing. Simple as that.

I'm not justifying theft, I'm explaining how it works

LOL, sounds like a mob thug explaining why the shop owner should contribute to the neighborhood protection fund.

In your post #175 you admitted to sharing your account with 2 entities that are outside your household and clearly stated that if you cannot continue to steal from Netflix in this manner that you will downgrade or cancel.

If you are not justifying theft then I suggest you downgrade and change your password or cancel now, otherwise you are indeed an active participant in theft.

Netflix only cares about profits

Obviously, why wouldn't they?

I'm saying they are being short-sighted here because they will gain some profits near term but will lose much more in revenues and subscribers in the long term.

Ok, your opinion, I suggest you share it with them.

Works for me, I cancelled them months (years?) ago. The 2 or 3 shows I watch I just binge watch with a single month membership/year, but even those shows deserving of my time are getting slim. The good thing about all these streaming service price increases is making me realize how much wasted time I spent on watching crap for the sake of watching crap, now I'm more productive with my time (like complaining on Macrumors!).

That’s not true at all. Try providing internet service from your router to every household on the block and see what happens.
that is already a thing its called a Wireless Intenet Service Provider (WISP) and its perfectly legal.

It’s not stealing. If you’re paying for a certain amount of simultaneous streams, you should be able to use them. It shouldn’t be geolocation based.

Agreed. I don't see why it can't be based on streams. Okay, you share your password with five people and they all want to watch at the same time, yeah, that's too much, a notification pops up and says "too many streams, open another account to watch", that seems fair to me. But if you're under the stream number cap, it shouldn't matter where you are. My sister and I shared an account while we lived together; we continue to share an account even though we live apart. It's still never more than two streams.

Capitalist stans don't read.

Wondering how this is going to work with a VPN if Netflix uses IP addresses to determine "sharing" users.

Am I speaking with a Netflix employee? Than yes, if I'm not — see my previous comments :)

No, you're speaking with someone simply giving you the facts. And I already saw your "previous comments"--I was responding to them, obviously.

Yea you can not condone or participate but still understand why people do things. It's the piracy argument since the beginning of time. Do the users do it because the price is so high, or do the companies charge so much because people pirate?

Right, I guess I was saying "sustained" for my previous comments. I consider myself to be a law-abiding citizen, and something like this doesn't go against my idea of that. I respect your right to disagree and see it differently. :)

No. Disney+ account sharing is not allowed but that doesn’t mean that separate profiles aren’t allowed in the household. Disney+ terms are the same as Netflix.

Netflix may have ignored it, but now they are not. If as people predict Netflix is doomed, then they are falling on their own petard.

It is not legal to share your cable modem and provide service outside of the household. There may be some situations where signal sharing is legal, but jn residential households for the most part it is not legal and could result in fines and arrest.

Michael Paull, the president of Disney Streaming Services, stated, “…we do recognize password sharing exists and will continue to exist.” Paull strongly hints that the company is willing to tolerate a certain amount of Disney Plus account sharing.

same reason Netflix doesn't participate in AppleTV's TV page of streaming services.
Most major streaming hosts have special arrangements with Apple and many other providers. Same for having their own button on remotes. They don’t need to be an another choice inside someone’s else’s App. Amazon prime is another, Disney has even shown up on remotes.
