Of course, but I was reacting to you and what you told us. Your usage is very light and you kinda implied that yourself that you don't probably need it. So save the money and wait till you need it. In the meantime, you can maybe buy Apple stock and grow that money into more. After all, Apple does pay dividends. Win win

I mean you’re not wrong, but maybe there are 2018 iPad Pro users who need to upgrade because of possible performance constraints like the 4GB of RAM on most 2018 models. Each of us has our own reasons for why we upgrade. May or may not make sense to you.

Mini is just like on TVs - local dimming. The more zones you have the more isolated it gets. So essentially you can have deep blacks. It doesn't work so well with things like skies at night with the stars etc.
Text can have a blooming effect too. Apart from these 2 I see is as better than OLED even though there are some OLED fanatics here. :)

It will be interesting to see if Apple did something better with the tech.

thanks - I still find it all confusing tbh

what's the draw of miniLED ? more isolating backlight?

So another piece of evidence that mini-LED will not be in the 11" Pro.

I guess I'll wait for an OLED 11" Air. Hopefully it will be a model with Face ID.

Like you, I've got a 2018 12.9" iPP that I want to upgrade, not because it's lacking performance, or that I think the mini-LED is going to be vastly superior (I think the existing screen is fantastic as is), but the reason I want to upgrade is battery life just isn't cutting it now. Especially given it's my daily work device and I'm starting to travel again, so I really do need a device that can get through a 12-14 hour day unplugged.

Hopefully the potentially thicker iPP is because of added battery capacity. If they can't eek out more usable battery life, I'll end up getting an M1 MBA for work, and I'll just use the iPP for after work use.

I use the iPad in landscape 95% of the time and my left hand is always covering the damn Face ID when I need to use it and it drives me nuts lol. Plus it makes way more sense to have it there when docked with the Magic Keyboard, so during FaceTime etc you're looking straight on, you know like the MacBook. MOVE THE DAMN CAMERA APPLE!
You're holding it wrong.

Oh for sure. It was purely a want for me, and as I use mine daily, I’m reminded how absurd it would be for my usage to buy a new iPad Pro. I would be curious if they offer a new Apple Pencil to see what they can improve upon the Pencil 2. A black option would be sweet.

Any rumors on how much RAM these new iPad Pros will have? I still get stupid refreshes in Safari and other apps. Or is this a software issue?
Refreshes are an OS issue, but more RAM helps, esp. as Apple updates the OS restrictions in later iterations.

My guess is it will have 8 GB RAM.

Thunderbolt is huge.
0.5mm is not.

So naturally, most comments go to the change in thickness.
Second most go to moving the camera, an option that isn't even being discussed AFAIK.

I guess we find out tomorrow what the 'other surprises' really are.
Yes, it will likely be USB 4 with Thunderbolt, and that is a very big deal.

Yeah, black one would be awesome.
I'm upgrading from Air 2 so I'm really eager to get this. :)

Thunderbolt is only going to be a big deal if there's significant iPad OS updates to go with it; proper external screen display and full and proper file management would go a long way

Damn, the 2018/2020 are just stunning devices to hold. 0.5mm increase won’t be much, but hopefully it doesn’t add the the weight by much.

Really curious to see how they play up this miniLED backlighting and how it really compares to the current LED backlighting in the iPad Pro. I’m a sucker for display improvements but for some reason this hasn’t really piqued my interest.
One huge advantage will be that black should actually look black

Fine, especially if it also means they did something to improve structural integrity and not risk another pre-bent $1500 iPad Pro out of the box.

I'm ready to upgrade from my 2017 10.5" Pro. The 2018 one felt too soon, then the 2020 felt too much of the same. I hope they've made some more substantial updates to this year's iPad Pro crop.

Right now Apple’s website says I’d get $535 trade in value for my current 12.9” Pro. If these new Pros have 8GB ram I’m upgrading. Unless they’re not compatible with the current magic keyboard. I’m not buying a new one of those.

Since no one has said it yet... time for the Thiccpad! Copyright me, all rights reserved haha!

On a serious note, I’m super intrigued for tomorrow. My daily driver has been a 2018 11” Pro for over two years now, and I usually upgrade my primary computing device in 2-3 year cycles. Granted, my 11” still feels plenty speedy so I’m in no particular hurry, but this release is going to determine whether I move back to a Macbook or stay in iPad land.

I’m also wondering what the true unit moving features will be. I think few will upgrade solely for a chip update and new displays on the 12.9”. Apple has over engineered itself in a way, as most peoples 2018 models still run fantastic. Even moving from USB C to TBolt won’t really mean much unless there are iPadOS functionalities added to take advantage of the ports speed.

This is part of the bigger problem with iPad, the hardware is there. The flaws almost all seem software based. I’m much more moved toward purchase by iPadOS Final Cut and true external display support than any hardware bump.

0.5mm is basically 8.5% thicker which is substantial.
Any improvement is better than nothing and 8.5% is by far better than 0% last year so there
IT WILL ABSOLUTELY BE AN IMPROVEMENT. There is no denying that. However, in practical terms, if one treats their iPad roughly, say, in the same duffle bag as a bowling ball OR with books and/or irregular large hard items in a soft backpack, .5 of a mm is not going to make a difference.

Where it absolutely WILL make a difference, though, is the case where someone actually scientifically measures exactly at one point pressure or torque will permanently deform an iPad. The newer iPad will likely be able to withstand a larger amount of pressure. However, it’s of no practical benefit as the amount of the delta will likely be so small… hmm, I wonder if it’ll actually be easier to bend because of the removal of the old LCD light that ran entire length of the iPad??
