We keep talking about this and you keep doing this.
Regardless, it will be stronger and that itself is an improvement. If we get Aluminium Series 7000 this will all be irrelevant as the rigidity will improve rapidly. For that price I would expect nothing less.

IT WILL ABSOLUTELY BE AN IMPROVEMENT. There is no denying that. However, in practical terms, if one treats their iPad roughly, say, in the same duffle bag as a bowling ball OR with books and/or irregular large hard items in a soft backpack, .5 of a mm is not going to make a difference.

Where it absolutely WILL make a difference, though, is the case where someone actually scientifically measures exactly at one point pressure or torque will permanently deform an iPad. The newer iPad will likely be able to withstand a larger amount of pressure. However, it’s of no practical benefit as the amount of the delta will likely be so small… hmm, I wonder if it’ll actually be easier to bend because of the removal of the old LCD light that ran entire length of the iPad??

Yay, the camera bump will be 0.5mm less tall 🙌.

Unrelated: Mini Led is great but at this point I’m just waiting for JRE bending test 😂

I was totally onboard with upgrading my 2018 12.9, but it still feels really fast, and it’s mostly a note taking, web browsing, YouTube machine. I don’t do anything to tax it, and iPadOS certainly doesn’t seem to tax it yet either. It will be interesting to see what the MiniLED display looks like, however. It sounds like design language will be the same, which isn’t a bad thing, so it may still be compatible with the Magic Keyboard. The other thing I’m curious about is a new generation Apple Pencil. the Apple Pencil 2 is so good, it’s hard to imagine where they could improve upon it.
I’m waiting by the door today for my fourth iPad ‘20 12.9. The Pencil 2 howls on everyone I’ve had. Just get that fixed Apple! Otherwise not upgrading at this time due to the disappointing experience. Otherwise like the machine.

I Sure wish Apple would lose its obsession with wafer-thinness.
A fad nobody but Ives was wanting. If you asked Apple users as a whole if they’d trade longevity of the device or battery life to make a device thinner I feel the vast majority would side with thicker designs being better.

Beyond some basic level of thinness, additional shaving of it serves no real purpose.

Too bad... while it does not look like much, 0.5mm is almost 10% ticker and will affect the device proportions. I actually really liked the thinness of the current models. Most people won't care but I the beauty is in the small details and it shows when an original design was altered. This is probably why the 11" is not getting the screen.

I hope there is a real benefit behind this.

There were rumors about the OLED displays in iPads too - I wonder if Apple is introducing the mini-LED before using OLED in any iPads to make mini LED seem much better than existing displays...

This big to-do about silly 0.5mm thicker reminds me the silly Cigarette Size Wars of the 1960s. Most cigarettes back in the day when they could advertise on TV were 80mm in length. Then came King-Size .... ohh, 100mm in length!

And not to ignored in this Battle of the Sizes, Benson & Hedges came out with their 101's .... the ad campaign (and the jingle that actually did work its way into pop culture) was all about "Oh, the disadvantages of being a silly millimeter longer" (the jingle actually made Billboard's Top 100, as "The Disadvantages of You" by the Brass Ring).

I'm glad to see Apple returning to its senses (sorry, Jony Ivie, you were the worst thing to happen to Apple once Steve died).

P.S. It was the greatest way to teach American youth the metric system... yeah, we all knew what a silly millimeter was.
I remember 120’s lol

Yeah, black one would be awesome.
I'm upgrading from Air 2 so I'm really eager to get this. :)
Upgrading from an Air 2 as well, and not interested in going 12.9, but disappointed the 11 inch isn't getting the new display...
Will wait for reviews to get a sense of how much better the mini-LED will be.

Whatever this is perfectly fine, but you know what really grinds my gears?

Every day that goes by without any leak or rumor or so much as a whisper of any indication that the Face ID camera is moving to the long side of the iPad, right next to where the Apple Pencil charges, is a day wasted in my opinion. I use the iPad in landscape 95% of the time and my left hand is always covering the damn Face ID when I need to use it and it drives me nuts lol. Plus it makes way more sense to have it there when docked with the Magic Keyboard, so during FaceTime etc you're looking straight on, you know like the MacBook. MOVE THE DAMN CAMERA APPLE!
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like the camera where it is. I use the ipad probably 75% in portrait mode held in my hand.

My undereducated guess is no, it will not be tiered RAM. I've always wondered if the tiered RAM was as a sort of dev kit for Adobe and the like.
For whatever reason Apple only offers the bare minimum RAM necessary. I don’t get it because constant app and tab refreshes in Safari are a crappy user experience. The 12.9” iPad Pros should have 8GB RAM for all storage configurations.

I may be in the minority but I actually really like how thin the iPad Pro is. It makes it really light and easy to hold for long periods of times with arm fatigue.

I’m sticking with my 2018 11inch anyway. I have no interest in a 12.9 size.

If the magic keyboard is not compatible because they increased the size of the camera that absolutely no one is using I won’t ever buy a 1st party iPad keyboard again.

I don’t believe that at all. People complain about this alleged obsession with thinness but then when a device gets thicker and heavier they don’t like that either (see 3rd gen iPad). I have a 12.9” iPad Pro. I read books on it. I wouldn’t want it to be much heavier than it is.
