Sounds like three people with zero knowledge of a subject passionately defending their completely unfounded assumptions pulled from thin air about a subject of zero importance.Hilarious!Do continue!

Well since you seem to want to share your opinion, do not hold back on our account. Please feel free to add to the discussion. I maybe no expert but I have had a long time interest in material science and manufacturing techniques starting from my love of automobiles.
And I am quite confident that if aluminum was as inexpensive as plastics automobile manufactures like gm would be following the lead of companies like BMW and Ferrari and producing more aluminum body panels instead of plastic. Futhermore the argument could be continued in the argument of steel versus aluminum, why should American automobile manufacturers use stamped steel parts when clearly aluminum cost no more than plastics.

Go ahead and say I must be just pulling this out of thin air, but I doubt the American automotive accountants would agree, because I doubt if they had an option they would not want to be part of creating inferior automobiles based on their decisions. There is plently of other evidence through this thread. But I will leave it at this, if the white plastic MacBook is so desired, why is there no 15" or 17" MacBooks?

I also must say that I really enjoyed seeing them cover up the alpha-numeric serials but still leave the BARCODES exposed. Not to mention the codes they left completely alone. MAC addresses can be traced back to serials as well. What a bunch of clueless maroons. Should be a piece of cake to figure out the chain of ownership for this unit.

Yeah Apple is just going to bust out a barcode scanner and scan the barcode on the monitor and figure out where the person who took these pictures lives. You've watched to many crime dramas on t.v. or something, this is not how real life works.

Ever thought Apple might have some printers at their HQ?

What the hell =/, When will Apple abandon Core 2 Duo, JEEZ!!! its 4 years old, infact the processors will be discontinued in just months.. Most laptops these days have Core i3 processors which are faster, and run much cooler too.. and they come with pretty much any laptop priced at like $600 =/

Don't start this nonsense againg, pls. i3 is not really faster than. 2.4 Ghz c2d, i is not cooler and i3 doesn't allow use of 320M, which is much faster than integrated Intel crapware

It is interesting to see all of these releases of information. If the products were made in the USA and someone was on an NDA, then Apple would have significantly more actionable consequences against said individuals. Since the manufacturing takes place in countries that do not have the same laws for intellectual property as the USA, then Apple must deal with this.

Food for thought???

Apple has enough money now that they don't give a shiat anymore.

What's the major benefit of 9400 vs. 320M graphics?

what for do I need the faster GPU? It's meant as a real question. Where does it help? I'm not in gaming. The Terminal ist fast enough anyway. I do some office stuff (Openoffice: Writer, Calc, Presenter) and database operation (FileMaker). Yes, a much bigger screen would be nice here, but I do prefer the small form factor.

Do web pages display any faster? The major limitation I observe is that youtube is not usable that well - so that would be the major bottleneck for me.

But what I do appreciate is much longer battery life. I feel an i3 or i5 with integrated graphics would be good enough for me - and MPB 15" and 17" changed to non core2 anyway.

Be cause of the aluminum unibody? The backlit keyboard? The 4 GBs of RAM? The Firewire 800 port? The SD card reader?

Or perhaps even the longer lasting battery (someone stated that it lasts 7 hours versus the 10 hours of the Pro - though I can't seem to find evidence of that anywhere).

The increase in price is more than justified, imho.

well have to see now won't we.

Just because your limited knowledge of barcodes has left you with the impression that they must be clearly printed in order to be decoded doesn't mean that's actually the case. This isn't the stuff of hypothetical cutting-edge forensics, this is simple IT work. Some minor cleaning of the image will be required but those codes should be easy to figure out. Also, I never said Apple would then know where the current owner lives. However, they should be able to figure out where the commercial chain of ownership ends. Maybe you should do some actual research on barcodes and asset management before returning to this subject again.

Would you rather see Steve Jobs on stage introducing a new product or would you prefer to find out about it from some Vietnamese guy with freaky finger nails?

i'd prefer to find out about new products as early as possible and base my buying decision on this information. the more facts i hear about as early as possible the better for me. i don't care who provides the information - somebody in america or somebody in vietnam.

unpackaging

bloke could have done with at least one long fingernail to get the box open better....oh wait....

Pulling knowledge out of thin air :) I expect that not long after this update (assuming it's legit) we will see either the i3 or more probably the i5 right across the macbook pro range and by this time next year if not a lot sooner (eg end of the year) the same will be in the macbooks and minis if only because of intels plans for it's chips. In otherwords if your not in a hurry just wait but if you need a low cost apple notebook now it seems like a good buy. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong. The WD av-25 series with 5400rpm seems superior than any other 7200rpm ones

Not really ST, just popped a 7200 Scorpio Black in my Core 2.2 Duo BMB, gone are the beachballs, and preforms wicked fast, the difference WAS the HD as I already had 6GB of RAM:eek:

The current MacBook has an LED LCD display so it'd be a step back if the new one didn't have one. Overall, very predictable update. Incoming UK price rise to £849 too of course.

What's a viable alternative at this price range?

Well, If I can get a WD Scorpio Black 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD for $69 with no tax/free shipping imagine what Apple could get them for in quantity:rolleyes:

Ah, but faster drive = greater power consumption. "X Hours of Battery Life" is the new "Less than Y Inches Thin" ;)

Not so, my 2.2 BMB has the same 3 hour battery life untethered from a wall socket with a 320 GB 7200 WD Scorpio black as it did with the 5400 Hitachi it came with, same 2.5 ' form factor as whats in your Aluminum MB:eek:

And the base 21" iMac..?

Clearly you've never been to South East Asia!:D

It's an entry level machine...

add $5.00 for a 7200 320 GB WD Scorpio Black bought in a quantity of a million;)

Plastic body panels ? You mean the failed Saturn experiment that did manage to make it unto the Lumina APV for a while ? GM doesn't make cars with polymer body panels, they stopped years ago. All Saturns after 2000 shipped with standard steel body panels.

The reason those body panels aren't aluminum is simple. Strength. Aluminum is too soft for things like body panels which have a function in protecting your behind in a crash.

There actually was an advantage to the polymer body panels GM did. They were completely dent resistant because plastic doesn't dent, it will regain it's shape after being bent as long as you don't bend it too far. In the end, Steel won though. Was it a question of price or crash security or whatever ? We'll never know.

Is there a site called forumpostsfromcrazypeople.com? There should be.

You quoted something of mine that pertained to the entire post. Not one section. Try again.

I can't believe you still can't tell I'm getting laughs out of you, but I'll bait you with another, since you ask for it. I think you mean this made sense to you when you wrote it:

Reality check: You are not God. There's an easy way to settle this. Show some posts with factual evidence in this thread. Then ask, neutrally, "Why is there no source of information for these claims" [sic] Ask around. You will find that your subjective appraisal of yourself is not shared by people who know "factual information" when they see it.

As I said before:

Think about what that means. It means people know me as "factual information," and this is a brunt to my self-esteem. Also, this does not prove I am not god.

You avoided my semantic interpretation above, it seems. Anyway, do you agree or disagree with my interpretation? I.e., Isn't the above what those words mean? I don't know why you think the onus is on me, because my point is that whatever you meant, it came out wrong.

So far, you've suggested that you've "changed the context," the failure is only in my eyes, and that it is about "the entire post, not just one section." This has added to the . Instead of these non sequiturs, can you just simply explain how that made sense to you at the time you wrote it? And what "context" you intended? ;) How it "pertained to the whole post"? Or maybe it would be less embarrassing to admit that you were inspired to mimic my post and found yourself in over your head.:(

So I'm a loser (keeping in mind you essentially called 98% of the other people in this thread losers) because I'm arguing about something that you don't think is worth arguing. Why do I care so much about plastics and aluminum? I don't. I simply respond to people who respond to me, this is a forum.

 You FINALLY got my drift. Like pulling teeth. This guy got it without my help!;)

Sounds like three people with zero knowledge of a subject passionately defending their completely unfounded assumptions pulled from thin air about a subject of zero importance.Hilarious!Do continue!

"98%?" Nah, more like 3 people, like Lizardo noted. And the other two are not as passionate as you are -- you don't just respond, you respond with talk of "factual evidence" and "I demand a PROOF!" and all that debate team fervor. That's about the sum of it. You keep complaining about how condescending I am, but hey, it's hard to take people with your passions seriously, and I'm not God, after all, so I can't do everything.:(

X how many tens/hundreds of thousands of MB sales, and yes $10 becomes very relevant.

Nobody who would buy a MB gives two hoots about how fast the thingy spins, if they even know that it does; geeks and specwhores buy MBPs!;)

Actually, specwhores rant about how they can buy a Windows machine with sooo much more processing, graphics, Blu Ray, etc., for so much less.

They're the new millennium version of the grease monkey who spent all of his time under the hood of his 68 Camaro, tinkering with his carburetor and ignition points, while I was driving my nice, quiet, civilized, air conditioned car, with clean fingernails, getting where I wanted to be.

Very mature "L".... not. Please set an example for the rest of the forum users to NOT use back-sass to something that doesn't deserve comment...

500 comments, and nobody really had anything to say.

Maybe this update is not that exciting. Maybe putting a MacBook Pro motherboard with the firewire and SD slot missing in the same MacBook case is boring. Maybe cheapo shiny LCD screens still suck.

If these glossy LCD screens were so great, wouldn't they put them in TV sets?

Perhaps firewire is dead?

SD card readers cost about $3.

Can we have some more USB ports please?

dont know if its been noted yet but from the video it seems to be an australian model, due to the plugs from the box
