What the hell =/, When will Apple abandon Core 2 Duo, JEEZ!!! its 4 years old, infact the processors will be discontinued in just months.. Most laptops these days have Core i3 processors which are faster, and run much cooler too.. and they come with pretty much any laptop priced at like $600 =/

I'm so broke I'm still using an ibook G4 for crying out loud. I'm MORE than elated to see the MB getting the same processor and gfx combo in the MBP because that more than seals the deal for when I upgrade this summer.

They've had the same since June 2009. Not paying much attention are you ?

We went over this last month. The reason is so Apple can use nVidia integrated graphics in the 13" Macbooks and Macbook Pros.

Aluminum cans ;)

I don't know how stupid you have to be to compare the material in a product I can crush in one hand, with the material in a product that makes one of the most durable laptop cases ever.

Aluminum cans have nothing to do with this. They have much smaller quantities of aluminum, and the process of making them is very different.

Next thing you will be saying that Boeing overprices their airplanes, you know, because they are primarily made of alloys based on the same material as cans.

You know what they say about assumptions right?

Quote from Apple.com:

"Speaker Grille

The speaker perforations on each side of the MacBook Pro keyboard were too small to die-cut, but too big to cut with existing laser technology, so the production team commissioned a first-of-its-kind mechanical drill."

Are you failing to read the proof I posted.

Nobody else in the industry has ever drilled holes as small as Apples speaker holes!!! Its lip service bro.

The process may be old, that does not mean there isn't a need to build/invent machines for a particular purpose.

What the hell are you blabbering about? I was responding to someone who asked a simple question. I can snap a cheap plastic toy that he was referring to in half, much like you can crush the aluminum can.

Its not the process. Its the machinery. They use WaterJets and CNC machines. The only thing they may have "invented" is the drill bit used to drill the speaker holes.

I read it. Why would I choose not to believe Apple's claim? Why would they make up a fact like that? What is their motive?

Has anyone else needed to create holes in solid aluminum that diameter and with that spacing? No idea, but I don't assume that Apple made that up because it doesn't meet my agenda, like some others here. ;)

Grow some skin. There was no attack in claiming you cheaped out. (There is in the grow some skin comment though, but your claim of weakness is also one, so hence, you showed weakness first, but there I go and attack you twice in one post...).

Fo me, it's not about thick versus thin skin. It's about ad hominem, which is a logical fallacy.

I have a very thick skin, but fallacy, hermeneutics of suspicion (which is the case here), and poor debate that adds not illumination but rather heat jump out at me.

Sorry, no, you cannot snap a cheap plastic toy that I referred to in half. I am talking about plastic bottles, toys you see in Walmart and etc. Those costs 10 cents to 1 dollar to make in Asia.

To make it appear as though they are making some grand invention to make the products they are making seem more high tech than they really are, to justify the cost of purchase, etc.

It all depends on what you define as "invention".

The drill bits must be installed somewhere, which position the bits at the right location, spin, move to the next position etc.

You may not think that's invention. It still takes engineering hours and testing, so it costs money.

You think everything's easy. I would encourage you to start a company to make unibody laptop for other makers, for the cost of plastic. Seriously, you will easily make millions.

How did this Vietnamese web site get an actual production unit?

They must have a good inside source to get this, and also get the iPhone 4G prototype.

They have Thomas Crown!

If it is so easy, why haven't any other maker copied it except Dell on the expensive Adamo?

PC makers didn't have any problems copying other things from Apple.

Low end PC costs $400 these days. If Dell or HP makes a unibody laptop and sell it for $500, it would be a huge hit.

I can't snap a cheap plastic toy in half? LOL! Some of us here actually have some muscles in our body. Plastic bottles? Just as easily crushed as aluminum cans so what's your point?

I can't however crush a poycarbonite MacBook also like I can't crush a Aluminum MacBook Pro. Your argument is pointless.

Great logic. So a high tech invention is making a drill bit? So my Line 6 amp comes with an Allen Wrench with a custom key to unlock my Bogner Tubes from its compartment. Line 6 must have really invented something special with that Allen Key!

the ammount of contempt the presenter has for the product is evident from the video. he gets frustrated at the tape and then later on he throws the documentation around.

I'm really sick and tired of opportunists stealing these products to make a quick buck. The ultimate result is it costs Apple millions - millions it could be using to build newer, better products for the consumer.

It's not that different than my current MacBook

I have a Macbook (non-pro) two models ago. It's 2.4GHz Intel Core duo.

The big differences seems to be that:
  • Memory is 1066 compared to 667. (I assume that's the bus speed?)
  • A new graphics card (but still shared memory).
  • The LED screen.
  • Plus they took my FireWire away.
  • And I'll need all new video adaptors.
  • And I can't use my spare batteries...

Now mine might have been a higher end MB from then ($1399), but still these aren't crazy great specs, but they're good compared to the price I would have paid then considering I assume this will come in at $999...

Gary

Still want my backlit keyboard...

Sorry, I wasn't talking about the water bottle for bottled waters. I am talking about the sporting water bottles. If you can snap that, I would love to see it. Please post on YouTube.

By the way, I didn't take your original comment about soda cans seriously. They were made from stamping and indeed costs at little as plastic (or even lower).

Yes, it is a invention if none of the existing tools (whether it is drill bits, or laser) cannot do it.

Talk about a silent update. I prefer the plastic Macbooks to the aluminium ones.

Not that I'm fond too of solid petroleum or solid electricity.
