They won't be shipping to me. What a hideous design. And a notch in a laptop, but no Face ID? Are you kidding me??? Look how quickly they are rolling back the terrible design decision around the Safari tab colouring. Hardware design decisions are not so easily reversed. They need to get Ive back ASAP before they do something terminal.

Of course the saving grace will be the incredible M1 Pro and M1 Max, and for these alone I predict the laptops will sell well. If you are desperately waiting for yours I hope you don't have to wait too long!
I don't care what the thing looks like. None of those things bother me, but even if they did - I need power, and this has it. I have work to do. I own and operate a recording studio and these are dream machines for me. I've never understood people who buy computers based on what they look like. I mean, what do you do, just sit there and look at it? I'm not trying to be snarky, I really want to know why these things matter to you or anyone. This is a pro machine, it's not really about "sleekness" or other industrial design decisions that are often inverse to the functionality and power of the machine. Sorry, but I've just been stunned with what seems to be a complete misunderstanding of the purpose of these machines built for professionals. I can't help thinking that Intel sent out their minions to populate the boards with comments like "but the notch!!!" or "no Face ID!!!", frilly things that pros don't care about, to distract from the obvious. Not saying you are, but I wouldn't doubt it.

That notch stays in the middle of the menu bar which is typically outside of your vision anyway and that middle part is always a dead zone so a hole in there won't affect your productivity at all.

Just curious, what do yo do for a living and why does that notch affect you that much.
Honest questions for market research, not trying to attack you at all.

Apple give ports and stuff back that everyone was complaining about. Yet people still complain lol.

Bingo. The notch is an annoyance and a poor UX decision. Hope we can disable it and just make the top of the screen a black bar, but if not? Well, it's nowhere near the touchbar level. Most of the other things (SD Card, HDMI port) are things that I just won't use, so no biggie.

FaceID? No thanks. Not for my mac. Don't use touchID either. Now if they'd let me use it AND a passphrase, sure. But by itself, those biometrics aren't secure enough for a computer (lot more info on there than on my phone, plus you don't have the wipe mechanism as a second level of protection). So it's absence is moot.

800lb power brick? Well, that's the tradeoff for the good stuff.

But raw performance? Battery life? gorgeous screen? improved keyboard? OMG yes.

I'm as excited about this machine as I was for my very first intel Mac 15 years ago.

Mine's still on track for the 26th. I ordered the base model the moment the online store opened back up in Canada.

I noticed the pending charge appeared on my credit card about an hour ago, and thought the status likely had been updated.

I'm not even sure I get some of these points?

- The notch? Ok, I grant it can be an "annoyance" if you just dislike the lack of symmetry of a full rectangular shape for the total screen drawing space. But a poor UX decision? How so, when all they did was make use of some border they'd otherwise just make a solid bezel just to place the camera hardware up there? It's just bonus space they now give for menu bars to draw up there, so they don't occupy the standard pixel count below it.

- FaceID? It's secure enough, IMO. I mean, regular passwords can be stolen just by someone observing you keying them in (maybe from a surveillance camera even). FaceID isn't just something you can fool with a 2D photo of a person either. It's fairly complex. I would be fine with it on a Mac laptop and I agree with those disappointed Apple didn't do it here. Maybe it'll come in a newer OS X update/upgrade though? I guess that depends if the hardware needed is actually in here.

Mine is due to arrive tomorrow, very excited.
Show us your delivery notice then. Because I do not believe you.

Mine is still preparing to ship for October 26th - you know, the actual release date.

Interesting, I was just messing around and couldn't figure out why, when I chose the 14" 10 core M1Pro and upgraded to the 24 core GPU (a $180 upgrade), the price jumped from $2299 to $2839; turns out that automatically upgrades the unified memory to 32GB (a $360 upgrade).

Apparently, though, you can just upgrade the unified memory to 32GB, without anything else changing.
