I don't care what the thing looks like. None of those things bother me, but even if they did - I need power, and this has it. I have work to do. I own and operate a recording studio and these are dream machines for me. I've never understood people who buy computers based on what they look like. I mean, what do you do, just sit there and look at it? I'm not trying to be snarky, I really want to know why these things matter to you or anyone. This is a pro machine, it's not really about "sleekness" or other industrial design decisions that are often inverse to the functionality and power of the machine. Sorry, but I've just been stunned with what seems to be a complete misunderstanding of the purpose of these machines built for professionals. I can't help thinking that Intel sent out their minions to populate the boards with comments like "but the notch!!!" or "no Face ID!!!", frilly things that pros don't care about, to distract from the obvious. Not saying you are, but I wouldn't doubt it.
It matters to designers. Like it or not, they (apple products) portray a certain creative image. I wouldn’t be seen dead walking to a client presentation with anything other than a MBP.

They won't be shipping to me. What a hideous design. And a notch in a laptop, but no Face ID? Are you kidding me??? Look how quickly they are rolling back the terrible design decision around the Safari tab colouring. Hardware design decisions are not so easily reversed. They need to get Ive back ASAP before they do something terminal.

Of course the saving grace will be the incredible M1 Pro and M1 Max, and for these alone I predict the laptops will sell well. If you are desperately waiting for yours I hope you don't have to wait too long!
Go get yourself a Wintel box. You deserve it.

Order has now moved to "preparing to ship" status to arrive 26Oct21. Apple Wallet is reflecting 6% cash back for both the extended warranty and the M1 Max. Cash back covers the warranty charge plus several cups of coffee.

Does Tim Cook need to be fired? That's all I want to know.

I cancelled mine for the 16" 1TB Pro 1 because I got worried not knowing if the Max would be that much better or not.. so some lucky person got their delivery date pushed up from my cancellation :)

I ordered a 14" M1 Pro (10c/16g), 32GB, 2TB at about 3:30 PDT on the day of release. Mine says Nov 5-10. That same configuration is now saying Nov 30-Dec 7.

The XDR Display I ordered at the same time has already shipped.

Right you are on that. I meant "within the Apple ecosystem." I'm a designer as well, doing that right now, and I would never use or have a Win box at a pitch or presentation. But having one of the most powerful laptops on the planet even thought it's not .8 lbs and 6mm high, is going to look great even with a notch or no Face ID. "We're sorry, we noticed you needed your finger to log in. We're going to have to pass." :)

I'm sure Apple stock will plummet.

I'm obviously waiting for iJustine's video to base my thousand-dollar decision. If you don't know about her prestige around the technology circle you have to do your homework, the most reputable source of tech analysis and insightful discussions on the internets
