Maybe they should have waited a bit longer and made sure the MacBook Pro was a great product on release. More evidence that Apple have no idea what they're doing.
The MacBook Pro is a great product. Most people don't need 32GB of RAM. Since the Kaby Lake processors were just launched last week, realistically Apple couldn't launch until February or March at the earliest. They would have missed the last holiday season. At least they didn't rush the product out trying to cram in a bigger battery than was safe like a particular competitor of theirs.

I love this forum. Apple takes crap for not releasing updates to its products more frequently. Then, when they do release updates more frequently, they still catch crap as well.
You can't have it both ways guys!
I sometimes wonder if the whiners actually own Macs!

Very rich for you to say when you know damn well Apple's done this since the iPod Touch. They have 5 or 6 feature-rich innovations & stagger them from least important to most important in release so they can get users to upgrade yearly. The damn iPhone is proof of this!

Admit it-- this is just a cashgrab to get money this year (after a 3-4 year drought), then next year, too. If they had 32GB now, who would buy in early-2018?

To say they're listening to customers' demands is an infuriating farce.
Most people don't upgrade computers every year. And the MacBook Pro already has complaints about battery life, so using DDR4 RAM with Skylake was not an option. Since Kaby Lake doesn't support LPDDR4 RAM either, if indeed there is a 32GB model, my guess is that it wasn't initially planned for the 2017 model and is being introduced specifically to address consumer demands.

Calling it now. The "the most significantly redesigned product this year" will just be the 2012 retina macbook pro shell with kaby lake and the same USB-A, SD Card & HDMI 2.0 with two Thunderbolt 3/USB-C instead of the old thunderbolt 2.0. :D

You act like it's the same people complaining about both things. I doubt very much you'll find anyone who was upset about lack of updates complaining here.

I was one of the people upset about lack of updates, and I know I'm applauding an update to KL and more RAM as soon as possible. My only complaint would be end of 2017 makes it too little too late. Q1 2017 would be fantastic.

I'd be pretty p**sed if I'd waited and forked out for a new redesigned MacBook Pro, overpriced as it is for just 16GB RAM, then they release an option for 32GB later in the year because they couldn't be bothered to on launch? Apple's screwing of customers knows no bounds. ;)

hey you don't know me

It's unfinished because it was only 16gb of ram? So when a 64gb ram MBP comes out, will your 32gb suddenly be deemed 'unfinished'?

Your logic is baffling

He means by unfinished that the battery redesign wasn't finished in time and had to go with old style rectangular batteries that ended up having much smaller capacity, read up on it.

No. I'm calling it now. That is wishful thinking. It's not going to happen!

I seem to remember Apples *reason* for not putting 16GB into laptops expect the iMac because ......

And now, just by magic they can "oh yes, sir, we can do that for you." This is why I like Apple

Their excuses are so darn good. :D

I just hope for better battery life. 10-12 hours in REAL world usage, not some magic Apple lab.

I'm not interested in the new MPs as they're far too heavy for a portable device. All I want is a 14" MP to replace my ageing MBA.

Here is what will happen:

The exact same thing as what happened when the Core Duo MacBook Pro 2006 was released. Its an amazing machine. Got too hot. First of its kind. Got Apple's foot in the door with a mobile Intel based Mac. But it was a good Mac. Then Apple will follow it up with better. As always. New body style, first one out the door is a big step, the refinement. Nobody is screwing you.

Hi, welcome to the computer industry, where things are never outdated within a year.

Wait, that didn't sound right..
