Article Link: New 15-Inch MacBook Pro With 32GB of Desktop-Class RAM Coming Later This Year

That may easily stymie you, but for most people, ordering a tiny and highly rated USB C to USB A adapter from Amazon for $4 will solve the problem. Whine on...

I'd flipped and flopped over whether to go for one of the new MBPs, but this is ideally the machine I want and need. I think I would always have had buyers remorse if I hadn't held off, and i'm sure i'll be able to get another 9-12 months out of my 2012 MBP.

For the folk complaining about Apple bringing out an upgraded machine 12 months later, do you actually understand how the real world works?

It would be great if Apple could shrink the bezels down to fit a 17" display into the 15.4" Pro body. Haven't done the math so idk what is possible, but even 16.5" would be great. Make it 0.75-0.9" thick, 12 hour battery, dual SSD, 32GB RAM, higher end graphics card, 4K display, bring back a few ports and oh man that would be a tasty machine. The icing on the cake would be if Apple implemented that new keyboard they're rumored to be working on which has a display in every key which could be handy for pro apps and assigning special functions and colored zones for editing. Such a machine would probably start at $3999 and quickly go up from there.

It would be funny if instead of a Mac Pro update, Apple released a chunky, fast, semi-upgradable laptop instead that blows everything else away.

Personally for my own use I'd rather see an iMac Pro that's all tricked out to the max using more desktop components since newer machines are becoming easier to cool and Apple has been developing new cooling systems in recent years.

I wouldn't be surprised if your figure is low. Apple has gouged customers on RAM upgrades for years.

This is because way-way-back-in-the-past Steve Jobs said (paraphrased), "we don't want to be in the memory business", and thus :apple: over-charged for RAM to encourage folks to buy it elsewhere.

Unfortunately, something happened somewhere since then, leading :apple: to still overcharge for RAM but as a non-serviceable part in some (and most/all of their future) product lines.

I'd be pretty p**sed if I'd waited and forked out for a new redesigned MacBook Pro, overpriced as it is for just 16GB RAM, then they release an option for 32GB later in the year because they couldn't be bothered to on launch? Apple's screwing of customers knows no bounds. ;)

No worries mate. Most people are adult enough to take responsibility for their purchase decisions.

Once again, Apple screws the early adopters, but really folks, you should have figured this out by now.

I have yet to utilize the full 16gb of RAM... Sure 32gb will be cool, more of a bragging right.
It's for editing 4k video. A pro, who is on the job, would need it. That's about it, but that's really why you buy a Macbook Pro in the first place.

The :apple: marketing team screwed users by forcing the MBP release before it was ready for the sake of hitting the holiday sales season.

Marketing also interfered w/ the 2016 macbook by offering the rosegold option,
instead of the 2nd USB-C port as it was originally designed...

...from a marketing perspective:

MBP 15" > MBP 13" > MB 13"
because
4xUSB-C > 2xUSB-C > 1xUSB-C

How have they been screwed? People analyzed their needs and determined 16 GB would work just fine, and then purchased a MBP. And it will still work just fine next year.

Nice little moan...

Gross. I'm glad Apple doesn't do any of that.
Right, so you're happy with:
  • 12" MacBook
  • 13" MacBook Air
  • 13" MacBook Pro with function keys
  • 13" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar
  • 15" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar
But this is "gross":
  • 12" MacBook
  • 13" MacBook
  • 14" MacBook Pro
  • 15" MacBook Pro

You must blindly follow Apples decisions...

Whoa... so how have pros been able to do their job all this time since there has NEVER been a MacBook Pro with more than 16GB of RAM?

Probably one shouldn't have bought the machine in the 1st place. I have a 2011 machine that's dire for replacement. But I just couldn't convince myself to buy any of these new half-assed machines.

My SO is still using a 2009 MBP. She was waiting to buy either the 13" MBP or air. In the end she bought more ram and a new battery (already has an SSD) and the computer still runs great. Her only complaint is the weight.

That's how it was like for 2009 iMac buyers. Early models had 2 RAM slots, while late models had 4. The 4 slot system's RAM prices ended up being cheaper, because you didn't have to buy the more expensive DDR3 sticks of RAM to get to 8GB (or more, which the late systems allowed).

If you're disappointed when something new and better comes along six months after you buy any kind of technology, you're in for a lifetime of disappointment. That's just how tech works. Buy the best you can afford when you need it, and enjoy it until you need something better.

Don't buy the 2016, because the 2017 will be better.
Forget the 2017, the 2018 will be even better.
Don't waste your money on the 2018 when you can wait and buy the 2019.....

Many seem to fall for this idea and never buy anything. They simply keep waiting, hoping the next will be better.

The truth is, if you're waiting, you don't need what's offered now or what will be offered then. You can somehow manage not to upgrade right now because it ONLY has 16GB of RAM but you need 32GB?

The reality is that almost everyone complaining about the lack of a 32GB option has no real need for it. Less than 10% of machines ordered ever have the top spec options selected. Most buyers, even of the MBP, are basic users. They could be perfectly happy with an Air but upgrade to the MBP because of the status bump it offers.

:D

If using a MBP, i'm guessing just in-and-out trimming and lite first-light for 30-300 second segments. Most Apple preferred Pro folk use Mac Pro workstations - even on DIT carts!

Very funny that Phil said that Apple didn't want to go above 16GB of ram because it would have a negative effect on the battery. Now rumors speculate that the 15inch could come with 32GB ram. I wish the whole thing was more no nonsense for the reasoning behind their decisions. It was one of the reasons a lot of people were disappointed or are still holding out.

"Why isn't Apple updating the MacBook Pro!???!!! They're taking forever! I have my credit card ready!" Then Apple updates the MacBook Pro "Not happy with these updates, but it's the best machine in its class (huh?)", now Apple updating it again a year later... "Why is Apple updating the MacBook! I just bought mine! WTF! Apple is such a horrible customer-milking company! ARGH!!!! Going to return mine!" Rinse and repeat and MacBook Pro can get replaced with any other Apple product.

If you really believe that SD cards are obsolete...

Apple's internal data shows less than 5% of users have EVER used the SD slot on Macs which contain them. Seems pretty silly to include them and charge everyone the price of doing so, when so few use them.

Let the couple people that need an SD reader buy one for a couple dollars and save the rest of us a couple bucks.

Don't be so daft, that's not what's happening here. The MacBook Pro hadn't been updated for over a year before this one came out. To release another version less than a year after everybody has invested in the new machines is ridiculous. Especially as a lot of those people wanted 32GB of RAM but had to settle. The machine is already over priced, can't imagine what they're charging for 32GB of RAM. Considering Apple are the only company on Earth who think RAM sticks are £/$500 each!

If max supported ram is the biggest difference between the Late-2016, and Late-2017 MBP, anyone complaining really needs to look into the Mac Iivx and the Centris 650 ;-)

I got lucky and got the Centris 650 ;-)

Hopefully they price it reasonably by gutting the ******** touch bar and keeping the prices sane. Apple, your idea to sell people overpriced piece of crippled crap with battery life issues for a ton of money was bad and you should feel bad about it!

And, don't get me started on what the ram cost back then...

My favorite:

"I need a new MacBook Pro!"

(sees 2016 MBP... not impressed like McKayla)

"Na... I'll keep using my 2012 MBP...."

So wait... did you need a new computer or not?!?!?:p
