Maybe they should have waited a bit longer and made sure the MacBook Pro was a great product on release. More evidence that Apple have no idea what they're doing.
It already is a great product! If it's not specifically for you, doesn't meet your current needs, then buy a Windows laptop that does. However, for the majority of us, it is great and works for our pro needs. It fits mine and I love this thing. Best Mac laptop yet.

Nice. I'm going to be in the market for a new MacBook this year but was worried about the processor and battery life deficiencies. Looks like I'm going to be in luck.

I hope these rumors are a clue that Apple realized it took a left when the real Pro's expected them to take a right!

They need to come out with a Pro's Pro series (both 15" & 17") bringing back the Ports (USB-A), Thunderbolt2 (DisplayPort), & MagSafe power connection, 16 & 32 GB RAM options, serviceable RAM & SSD, CPU Performance, full stroke keyboard keys (the new keys suck!). I can live with the non-retinal MacBook cases with a full retina display, at least a dual SSD (RAID) and a more powerful battery.

I'm sure they can do it for 5 pounds or a bit less for the 15" and a bit over 6 pounds for the 17" both well within caring weight. Sure if its lighter thats great! But it needs to have the performance and deep battery for longer run times.

I have yet to utilize the full 16gb of RAM... Sure 32gb will be cool, more of a bragging right.

Understand that your use case is different, but those of us who do finite element modeling would very much like 32GB RAM. If the model can be executed in RAM without having to access disk (even SSD), it runs far faster. I have a COMSOL model that runs in 36 minutes on a 16GB RAM MBPro, but takes 7 hours on a similar MBPro with 8GB RAM, paging out to an SSD. More RAM == better.

Whining on Macrumors is apparently not pointless, I guess.

Yes. If this is true, Apple appears to be responding to the enthusiast outcry regarding the MBP release...but they are damned if they do, damned if they don't, at this point.

The first rule of Mac Club: Never buy first-gen hardware
The second rule of Mac Club: Gen. 2 almost always has what people complained Gen. 1 lacked.

Looking forward to the Kaby Lake release even more now! Glad I held out.

Although this is usually true, I can't see how this could be true for the current 13".
What can they really offer besides a price cut?
Kaby Lake isn't very impressive.
There is no dGPU, so no possible advancements there.

They could iron out some minor flaws of the TB version.

I hope these rumors are a clue that Apple realized it took a left when the real Pro's expected them to take a right!

They need to come out with a Pro's Pro series (both 15" & 17") bringing back the Ports (USB 2/3), Thunderbolt2 (DisplayPort), & MagSafe power connection, 16 & 32 GB RAM options, serviceable RAM & SSD, CPU Performance, full stroke keyboard keys (the new keys suck!). I can live with the non-retinal MacBook cases with a full retina display, at least a dual SSD (RAID) and a more powerful battery.

Have a 2014 15" retina and the last generation 17" pro. 17 was pretty hefty, better off just getting a desktop. It wasn't too much more powerful either. Sure the 2 graphics cards were cool (not sure if the 15 had them at the time) but the 17 wasn't that much more powerful the the equivalent 15".

As far as bringing back USB2/3, thunderbolt 2, I'm over it. I can see why it's a need now, but it'll be a limiting factor pretty soon. MagSafe would be nice,

I'd be pretty p**sed if I'd waited and forked out for a new redesigned MacBook Pro, overpriced as it is for just 16GB RAM, then they release an option for 32GB later in the year because they couldn't be bothered to on launch? Apple's screwing of customers knows no bounds. ;)

Edit: Please stop replying. I'm bored of reading responses now.

Here's another response: This year's processor was limited to 16gb ram. Simple.

IMHO you probably need a desktop computer if you plan on using that setup for video editing and not a slim laptop.
If only Apple had a competitive desktop offered without 3 year old components at day one prices (i.e. Mac Pro).

Funny thing though, when they were announced that is how it was marketed, in an editing studio, hooked up to two 5K displays with dual raids over Thunderbolt. You'd think they'd have put a little disclaimer at the bottom that using these wasn't they're intended for video editing purposes.

When they say it's the biggest redesign, they can't possibly mean form factor, can they? They just redesigned the macbook pro. Do they mean they are adding a "pro" pro, like a higher end machine?

Maybe everyone missed this angle. I believe the 2016 Macbooks were projected to do really poorly. Tim and the gang realized this and leaked this rumor to lessen the hemmorage of users to Windows machines. Apple is in a bad position because the "thin" paradigm has constrained them to less RAM and lower clocked processors for suitable battery like and an acceptable thermal profile. Intel isn't helping them with their SIT, SPIN, and SPIT processor update cycle.

A friend of mine is looking at an Alienware laptop that packs 32GB of RAM, an Intel Kaby Lake i7 Quad core processor and a Nvidia 1080 class GPU for about $3K. It isn't thin but if you need the power, this one has it. It's VR ready and even has a thunderbolt3 external expansion box for another GPU or other peripherals for audio or video work. That PC can do almost anything for a Pro or Gaming user wants it to do. The current MBP can't touch it.

I'm happy with my late 2013 rMBP. Thank the gods I don't need to update mine now.

Am I crazy but when I see this picture the 15" just looks like a 17" inch to me, maybe it's because of how big or how small the keyboard is but every time I see this image I get super happy/excited because I feel like I'm looking at a 17" system but then I get that "Oh yeah, moment"

Maybe I'm just nuts....

No, it wasn't. The 6700HQ used in the base 15" MB supports, per Intel, up to 64 (!) GB of RAM. The problem is that Apple wanted to make the MBPs smaller (why?) and to shrink the battery they had to use LPDDR4 RAM instead of DDR4. If they had kept the previous form factor it seems likely they would have been able to offer a 32 GB RAM option.

17" is coming back. 17 in '17--I can feel it ;)

Please let there be a 15" MBP without a discrete GPU. I just want an integrated Iris Pro. I code all day, and don't play any games.

I very much doubt that. This rumor will kill a decent number of sales of the current machine, for which a replacement is at least 6 months, and probably closer to 9 months, away. That's bad for business. While I know rumors are rumors, I'm sure not buying a current MacBook Pro right now, and I'm in the market for one.
