Current 32 GPU Metal benchmarks are done on 1GHz where this chip can run on 1.25GHz, so basically 32 cores on lower power mode is like having 6/7 cores less.
This also explains the relatively low Metal scores, seems this mode is not yet available for reviewers.

You can go into Accessiblity right now & "Reduce Transparency." This makes the menu bar black.
Hopefully this mode doesn’t lead to a debacle like the one that many 2011 MBP owners had to deal with When their GPUs overheated and the only fix Apple offered was a new main board.
Well if it has not shipped yet - you can still change your mind if you ordered from Apple. Just login and change it to the 16"
In the UK I got the Max+32C/64GB/4TB - and there was only GBP 100,- ($140) difference between the 14" and the 16" so it was a no brainer to get the 16" despite the slightly higher weight.
Only on the Max? I went with Pro because I don't need extra GPU power, and that is basically all the Max provided (Other than another Prores decoder, and probably more cache.) This seems like it should work on the pro as well with a high CPU load (Just keep running the fans...) Unless the problem is that the Pro doesn't get hot enough with normal fan speeds.
Well, Apple doesn't explicitly say that the M1Air will throttle under load.
Everyone complaining can just cancel their order any buy the 16.
Good strategy - complain first to stay one step ahead of other complainers.
I think my 2019 MBP's fan has been in this High Intensity Mode since I first got it. Maybe I was selected as a beta tester.
NOOOO! let them get it in, be unsatisfied, complain about having to return it and reorder another one and wait for it to ship.

OH!!!! You are right!!! I completely forgot how I got the black menu bar!!! You must be in Dark Mode *and* Reduce Transparency !! (I just started a new thread about this under Apple Silicon Macs)

The 16 can do fast charge over MagSafe. It just can’t do it over thunderbolt.
So all those comparison graphs they showed at the keynote... was that running at High Power Mode?
Macs have NEVER been good for gaming and they never will and that's a fact. Apple has never gotten gaming and never will
Most likely, and probably with maxed out machines CPU/GPU ram and favorable SSD sizes as well.
