I just hope it's not an 8GB Silver Nano; I just bought a 4GB Silver and would have gone for the 8 if it had the color choice ::grumble::
Because it's about visually raising AIDS awareness among the public.
Breast cancer is not as "sexy" as AIDS...people feel better when they can help the afflicted in Africa...and how someone feels is what's importantwhy red and not pink? is breast cancer not as important as aids? just a thought....
How often do you even see the "body" of iPods? You see their headphones much more often, and they're still white for the (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano. I wonder how useful it is.
Not to mention, seeing a red iPod would just seem rather normal, but seeing a bunch of people with red headphones might be weird (just like it was weird when everyone started wearing white headphones)
This idea probably interferes with Apple's branding of white headphones, though.
Duh guys, can't you see? Apple is going to release a $249 red touch-screen 60GB iPod Video Phone tomorrow.
Gawd.
True, but they are all distinctive products in some visible way. In Apple's case, actually making them red is about the only way to increase distinctivenessI feeling ornery at the moment, so I feel the need to point out that not all (Product) Red products are actually red.
Cash which is shaken from interest groups, government sources, and private researchers based on what is "hot" at the moment. By tracking a subset of products with this campaign, they're effectively running a huge public opinion poll including the entire population of this country and the many others that participate in (Product) Red. Imagine 100 million products sell in this country alone. That's a HUGE statement with a tremendous n-size and practically no administrative overhead. It's like holding a public referendum that doesn't involve any added cost (in money OR time) for anyone involved.Impact? I don't think the wheels of science and research are powered by "impact". They need hard cash to solve this.
I think most people heard of AIDS...
But tomorrow isn't Tuesday.
Personally, I like the Nano lineup as it is now. I don't entirely see the need for another Red iPod, but if it raises more money for AIDS, I'm not against it.
Why not abolish the Red iPods and get Apple to donate a %age of all iPods sold to the charity? I'm never going to buy a red iPod but would like to support the charity.

Maybe a 30GB (RED) iPod?

**Ding, Ding, Ding** Bingo! We have a winner!
i dunno, i think $10 is pretty thin considering it costs apple about $75 to make a nano. I'd be a lot more willing to buy one if the margin was greater, like $20 or $25. But I also imagine that's more the corporate penny-pinchers than anything that are responsible for that. They probably wouldnt give up more than $10.
Those lowball numbers come from raw materials reports, and even those include some guessing. Manufacturing, marketing, logistics, shipping and taxes are apparently free in those reports.I'm curious to see where you're getting your information.
