Maybe the 'Store' is a repository for files transferred over Bluetooth(added functionality required) and downloaded files, say from email attachments and web pages?

surely that would be "storage".

Store implies a "shop".

iPhone 3 isn't out yet, and no Flash has been confirmed and everyone else says fine.

Palm isn't out yet and Flash has been confirmed to be available and everyone else says not fine.

Not disputing any of the above, i just personally feel the flash is not the be all and end all of internet usability on a smartphone. I use the net in my iPhone daily and it is very rare that i actually find a site that needs flash. If i do then i will check it out later on my laptop that handles flash just fine.

So i think to declare the pre the winner purely on the fact it has flash is a little premature, especially as it hasn't yet found it's way into the hands of the masses. Where GUI, usability, reliability and speed will probably have a lot more to do with deciding the winner than flash will.

HOW I GET NUE FERMWARE?!??!?!?/1:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

You sign up to be an iPhone developer, pay 99 dollars and you can then download it.

Apparently someone put the previous 3.0 build on p2p and people that treid it without being a registered developer, end up with an iBrick as it checks that you are a registered developer and there is no known way to go back to version 2.0.

Unless you are a registered iPhone developer and payed the 99 dollar for the priviledge, stay away from this!!!!!!

That isn't true, many people have downgraded back to the 2.x versions, apple isn't being completely truthful when they say you can't. (Some people have had difficultly doing it, it requires a little effort to get the phone into "DFU" mode, etc, but it is possible).

If need be someone can just turn off their internet connection so iTunes can't check, although i do not recommend it.

Going back to 2.2.1 is easy. Many threads on the topic. But yes, I agree, developers or testers should be the only ones downloading it.

Will someone please report if they were able to use the verified IPCC update AFTER updated the OS... meaning, those who had MMS/Tethering working prior to the update.

Thank you

update is much faster....MMS and Tether still work fine!
Also got Bluetooth Tether working

"store"

i saw earlier that someone thought it was not a store as in "lets buy things" because then it would read "app store".
i think people forget that you can purchase songs and other media from your iphone as well.
also, one of the new APIs in the latest firmware allows developers to sell DLC, use microtransactions, subscriptions, addons etc.
tell me if i'm wrong but, i think that in order for this to work, it has to be managed by apple. if people wanna buy DLC, they're gunna use their credit card on their itunes account.
doesn't it seem likely that although each in-game store will have it's own frontend, content management/licensing and credit card processing will be managed through the itunes store.
i highly doubt that there will be an apple released DLC store browser.
i do however, think that it is likely that there will be settings to manage how you "shop", whether it's in-game, through the music store on on the app store.

Password

Is there any update to password protecting the phone. The current 4 digit protection seems a liitle lacking.

When my phone was booting back up after updating, the screen came up to plug the phone into itunes, and the background was completely purple.

Anyone else get that?

I don't know - I see posts almost every day on various forums (fora?) from folks who have forgotten their four-digit passcode...;)

Well the banks seem to think it's secure enough for your bank account?? Why not your phone, just pick something that's not 1111 or 2222, just pick one of the other 9,998 combinations!!

Mind did a rather random screen strobing effect for 20 secs of so just before the final reboot, a little scary for a while but it seems to be fine now.

alright now everybody raise their hands if either your iphone or you bank pin number is 1337.

Does anyone else find it really interesting that it says just "Store" and not "App Store"... further hints at a expanded "Store" for unreleased devices...?

Video rental/purchase. Music purchase. App purchase. Or stretch it a bit and think wave to pay store details, subscriptions, recurring payments etc.

Seen on 9to5mac.com - look like they got the color wrong - as the i icon is black background.

How did you do that, i crown you king of the psychics, or something like that. Took my nan shopping the other day, guy at the counter in the supermarket asked her to put her pin in the machine and she told it to him instead, third time in the last few months. Doh.

saying something isn't going to happen doesn't mean anything.

Of course it can be proven.

If a hypothetical person spent years saying "there will be no G5 Powerbook because of heat issues" then we would finally be able to say that person was right, now wouldn't we?

Likewise if we get to 2010 without an iPhone Nano then Tallest was right. If they eventually come out with a Nano in 2010 or 2011 it proves that his original idea (Apple is not working on an iPhone Nano in 2008 for a 2009 release) would be proven correct.
