When do we think it'll be released in the US?

Only thing I found was "sometime in 2015" for USA. Comes out tomorrow in Japan, I think.

After looking more at it, I think that second stick won't be as hard to reach as I thought. I will probably wait for some specific games to come out first before I consider getting one to replace my Zelda 3DS XL.

Xenoblade Chronicles is the only reason I need to pick up the new 3DSXL. Loved playing it on the Wii. In my opinion the best JRPG since FFXII.

The big reasons at the moment to get the New 3DS are:

- Less lag in games. SSB plays much better and less laggy with the new 3DS
- Better 3D
- Faster wifi. I think the New 3DS has 802.11N where the old 3DS has b or g only.
- Works with Amiibo (without an add on)
- A few New 3DS exclusives
- Games will have features exclusive to New 3DS (SSB's posting pics to Miiverse is New 3DS exclusive.)

I'm a sucker for Nintendo handhelds! Just got the White Pokemon DSi yesterday. I'm getting the regular New 3DS and I'll probably get the XL one much later.

As vain as it sounds my biggest reason is for the cutomisations and the enhanced 3D. And I hope it has a less floppy hinge than all the other DS models!

It's Wednesday. How is it?

It is really fantastic. The smaller size is perfect for me - been an XL guy. The c-stick is actually really fantastic; it is allowing me to play with characters I would otherwise suck with - Mega Man comes to mind. The extra bumper button allows me to grab and shield on the same side of the console.

The 3D effect really does work now - I can be moving the console around and play with it held differently every time and it follows me around. When it is dark you can see a red light out of that camera, but it isn't intense or that noticeable.

The pure white look of the console is great - they actually hide the FCC and other markings under the top faceplate so this is the most vanilla look and its great. The overall speed and operation is also really nice.

I did the transfer by copying my data on my computer between SD and Micro - I hear the WiFi transfer is painful. My only negative so far is that the stylus position makes it harder to take in and out frequently for games that use it.

One of my favorite changes is the volume button in the screen rather than the body of the console - on the old systems every single time I'd accidentally raise or lower the volume; now it stays where I want it. Overall very happy with it; no money for faceplates or the dock, but at some point I'll pick those up.

Any questions?

Thanks for the review. I'll probably get it when it's available and there are some games I want. I'm not a huge gamer so I can what until a new Zelda (2016???) or something else that catches my eye comes out. enjoy!

thanks for the review. I owned a XL for a few days before i returned it. Is going back to a smaller screen hard? Also is there any improvement to the lcd quality? I own a Vita and the display is like night and day compared to the XL.

Not really hard going smaller since it is a nice happy medium - the pixel density is higher than XL and 3DS games really do look great with 3D turned on - with that you are taking advantage of 2 screens and have a unique experience compared to Vita - with the improved 3D effect you can always use that.

Yeah, the pixel density is awful on 3DS. But the Vita is a much more powerful beast, it can power those additional pixels! I'm excited for what comes after the 3DS, if they stick with 3D displays, if they drastically increase the power or resolution.

This probably pleases me the most from your comments. I turn 3D off often because maintaining a consistent quality is difficult due to ever-so-slight movements while I'm playing.

I bought one of these today, as they were released in Australia recently and I have to say, be wary of what you're buying if you already own an original model 3DS. I bought a black 3DS back in 2011 and have been pretty happy with it, the battery life isn't the best though, and it's always been really slow at loading the home menus, so I thought I'd get the newer model to take advantage of the faster processor and better battery life. What I got though, was one of the worst screens I've seen on a portable product- it was hideously yellow, and its max brightness was pathetic. My original 3DS' screens were far better, so I went and exchanged it, only to find that the replacement looked exactly the same.

I'm going to stick with my original 3DS, I can't handle a screen that poor after being spoilt by Apple's iPhone and iPad screens.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the new 'Super Stable 3D' feature is awful, it produces a really irritating flickering every time you move your head.

Eep, thanks for the heads up.
I noticed my XL was more yellow than every original 3DS I've come across. I don't know if its a problem with that whole series since nobody else I know IRL owns one! I won't preorder one now but I'll have a look at them instore instead. No way do I want another yellow screen.

Can you disable the stereoscopic tracking feature?

You can disable it, it works like an old 3DS then. But yeah, the screen was incredibly disappointing. If you end up buying one, open it up instore and check it out before you take it home.

So! Did anyone in Europe get onto the Ambassador programme? I didn't directly, but a friend did and so I bought it through him. Should be here tomorrow or the day after (woo!).

Not fair ..... :) post pics and hands on impressions.

My finally arrived (I actually have 2 - I wasn't selected for one originally but I put down an order through a friend of a friend. Then I was selected, but worried that stock would sell out or there was a problem I ordered another). It's neat! Some observations;
  • The screen is slightly yellow, a bit less yellow than the 3DS XL. This is noticeable on menus but not ingame. Infact I'd say ingame looks better - the colours appear to be richer and warmer.
  • Stereoscopic 3D works amazing on this. I had a play on some troublesome games like Mario Kart 7 and Smash Bros (games where you inadvertently move the system around) and at no point did the 3D "break" like it used to. I tried Starfox 64 3D with gyroscope controls enabled and the 3D continued to work. It's magic.
  • The facial+eye tracking uses an infrared camera/sensor so it sees in the dark. I find this neat!
  • Regular 3DS games do NOT get a speed boost. Pokemon still drops framerate when 3D is on.
  • The speakers are fantastic. Louder, more bass.
  • Stylus is not an extender, I repeat the stylus does NOT extend! It's also small like the original and the extending one from the original 3DS doesn't fit.
  • Menus really are quicker. Hopping between games and apps is a breeze, especially useful if you use Pokemon Bank.
  • Every button is a joy to press and in the right location. (I say this as someone who had a regular 3DS as their main system with that awful select-home-start button layout). There's less travel on the face buttons too, makes it feel "snappier".

That's all I can think of. I did a full wifi transfer and it took around 5 hours. Do the PC transfer one! So I haven't had a lot of time in games yet.

Coolio ..... :) So jealous :p

Yup, oddly enough the US isn't getting the regular New 3DS (with the coloured buttons).

It was just the non-XL model? Dang, that's really disappointing. I suppose black is okay looking, but not a fan of that red. Either way I might wait a little to see if any bundles come out.
