So I did that and what I do now is right before the third day ends, I play that song and start the three days over without losing any of the stuff I did and earned, right? Thank you

You'll keep all the non-expendable stuff like items, masks, boss remains, songs you've learned and notes in the notebook. But expendable items like bombs, arrows, bottle content and rupees are lost when going back through time. You can however deposit rupees in the bank before going back and then withdraw it from the bank afterwards (in addition to once again collecting the rupees from their original location)

Does the repeating 3 day cycle ever get annoying in MM?

Sometimes, when you have to redo something because you failed it during one cycle but most of the time you do completely different things on every cycle.

Pretty much what Lennholm said. Though the remake makes failures a little easier to deal with since you can now use the Song of Time to fast forward to specific hours, rather than just jump a day ahead like you used to.

Going through the same three days over and over again might sound boring, but think of it kinda like Groundhogs Day. There's so much detail in everything, you could spend hours upon hours playing the game, and still end up discovering things you've never noticed before.

Sadly I will be returning the N3DSXL after a week of wanting to love it.
bummer. I'm liking my new XL more than my 2DS.

Well that didn't last long -- the return, that is. Had a bit of "returner's remorse" and re-acquired a New 3DS XL today from Toys R Us -- in black this time instead of red.

Although I prefer the smaller form-factor of the 3DS, I did miss the speed improvements and 3D improvements of the New variant (the 3D improvements alone were enough to sway me back). Lacking confidence that Nintendo of America will ever release the New 3DS here in NA was another strong motivator.

I just read that there are some glitches in MM and that there will be a patch released soon. I've never downloaded a patch for any DS. Does the system prompt you to do so when the patch is ready for DL or do you need to check system update every now and then?

Some games will give you a notification like Smash Bros, others no you just need to check the Available Updates page on the eShop. Only a few games I've got have ever needed updates, it's not really a common thing on the 3DS!

Help!!!

Could use some more help here cause I'm going crazy. I'm playing MM. I'm in the woodland temple. I'm supposed to shoot an arrow through a torch to light the big wooden soon-to-be-spinning thing in the middle of the room. I know target locking was working because I used it to kill the frog who was spinning on the turtle. I also used it to lock onto that big wooden thing and then the fairy said something like "it looks like ash". But before I could shoot, I lost the lock. I can't relock on now. I draw the arrow, press L and nothing happens. I've tried over and over. Does anyone know what could be wrong. I simply can't use the L button to lock onto the target anymore.

Edit Well just shooting worked without relocking....

It did for me once. Maybe I did something wrong but I completed one of the temples which triggered a bunch of ice to melt. Anyway, after going back in time, I realized that I needed to do something right outside that temple. But since I reset the time, I guess, the ice was back. So I had to go back into the temple and kill the boss again to melt the ice. FWP.

6 months later, and I've finally bought the new 3DS. This is the first Nintendo console I've owned for a long while, and I decided to take the plunge with Xenoblade and Majora's Mask. I haven't had too much time to play with it, since the battery was drained to about a quarter when I took it out of the box. Basically got to the first chances to save in both my games.

Here are my first impressions:

The 3D is surprisingly great. It looked pretty alright in the stores, but you can't really appreciate it until you're laid back, playing with it the way it was meant to be played with. Majora's Mask in particular had a lot of nice depth to it. Made it seem like you were looking through a little window, like you could tilt your head just a bit, and see what's beyond the edge of the screen.

Though with that said, I don't know how often I'll use it. I hear it's a huge battery drain, and it does make my eyes feel a little wonky after 20 minutes or so. It's weird because you're having to switch your focus between the foreground and background on what's actually a flat 2D plane, and it makes you feel like your eyes are subtly crossed after awhile.

The little thumb nub I was worried about works a lot better than I thought it would. It's strange at first, because it doesn't feel like it has any give. It's just a nub. But in practice, it's pretty nice. Still think I'd prefer a full on analog pad, but it works great as an alternative.

Wish I could say more, but I've got to wait 2-3 hours before I can play it again. So far though, I'm not at all disappointed with the purchase.

Has anyone else tried the 3DS hack? Gave it a go last night and it actually works! Lets you play games outside of your region, runs homebrew, make custom themes, and best of all it doesn't let one run 3DS roms. Hooray! No doubt it'll get shut down soon though.

For me the first 30 minutes of play made my and my partners head feel wonky, but that was back in 2011 and neither of us have had that since. It's not too bad with battery drain either. I've never had a 3DS die on me but I do switch 3D off whenever I'm away from a charger.

The two ported Zelda games work wonders with 3D! I still think they're the best example of it.

Theres a whole load of really good games on that system. I've recently been hooked on 3D Outrun (those Sega 3D titles are amazing, they're not just straight ports with 3D added in but have loads of options and new features that would give a "Remastered" game a run for their money!). And Streetpass is still as addictive as it was in 2011.

I wound up upgrading to the new one some time ago since I was able to sell my Link Between Worlds edition for a decent amount. The 3D took a few tries to get it working where I wasn't so "ehhhh" again, but now I'm fine with it. I'm impressed with how much faster the New 3DS loads games/apps up as opposed to the previous iteration. Kind of makes me want to replay some games just to see their 3D effect, as I wasn't too happy about how unstable the 3D was previously.

I might try that just for one game I've been wanting to try out for awhile now. If you used to have an old Gameboy, you might remember Final Fantasy Legend II. I loved it. Played the hell out of back in the day. Turns out it got a remake a couple years back as Saga II for the DS, but it was never ported outside of Japan.

The only way I could play it would be with a translated rom, and an emulator. But with this, I might be able to try it out on an actual DS.

I grabbed a demo last of a game last night, Bravely Default, that might actually be a better example of the 3D effect. It's all played from a top down perspective, but it does an amazing job of implying depth. It's almost like staring through a window at a little animated puppet show down below, it's so cool.

I have been wanting to update my 3ds xl mostly because my top screen has a warm tone while the bottom screen shows bright whites.

I am hearing the new screens on the new 3ds xls are supposed to be better, but I just got a bad screen my first go round.

The "whitest" screen in my collection is the original 3DS (non XL). My Old XL is the most yellow, but even the New 3DS (non XL) is slightly yellow. It goes more white when 3D is enabled. So I don't think they've fixed the colouring issue yet but it's better than the XL.

I think, like with any electronic device, it's a bit of pot luck and taste. I'm pretty persnickety about my screens, and while my new 3DS does err a bit towards a warmer contrast, I think it looks pretty decent.

Yes! The region free option, and the homebrew and custom themes ideas are brilliant!

As for the new 3DS, I'm really tempted, but with two "old" 3DS XL's, I'll wait for the next generation! I must be a little weird, I love running the previous generation software on the current hardware, i.e., I loved playing GBA games on my DS, and I love playing DS games on my 3DS. Honestly, I have no idea how I got as far as I did in Super Mario DS with just the thumb-thingee on the touchpad on the DS, that was annoying! The circle pad control is much, much better at emulating the old N64 joystick.

So, Zelda OoT and Major's Mask are still in their plastic, waiting for the next gen hardware to come along...

Something interesting I've discovered with my New 3DS:

I recently got new glasses. My old ones had regular anti-glare. These new ones have some new bluish-tinted anti-glare, and my New 3DS is having a hard time stabilizing the 3D with these glasses on. As soon as I take them off or switch to my old glasses, no problems. Just something to consider for those of you that wear glasses.

Am I reading you right? Can you use the circle-pad for Mario 64? I hope so, because I'd love to play that game again.
You can but it just maps out the 4 direction buttons to the circle pad so it's not analogue. Which is a shame BUT it does feel better than using the dpad itself.

Oh yeah, you can use the circle pad or whatever-they-call-the-doohickey above the D-pad on the 3DS in Super Mario DS.

Now, when you use it the characters move slow as molasses, so you'd best be ready to keep a finger on the Y-button as you run along....

Apparently a new Zelda and Animal Crossing "New" 3DS will be coming out soon.

I know the Animal Crossing version coming out will actually be the first release of the regular sized New 3DS in the US.
