Just to put the monkey wrench in again, there is clearly a smudge (or something) on the screen of this thing that could be the front mounted camera in pretty much the exact right location.

Also, if the camera is supposed to be under the glass (and it is), and this is an iphone without any "naughty bits" (also looks to be the case), then the front mounted camera wouldn't actually be there. The glass over the top of where it is supposed to be mounted need not show anything either.

So we could still be talking about a front mounted camera anyway. *crosses fingers* :)

.

As you pointed out you can see a smudge just above the earpiece grill. I would take a guess that this would disappear to black once the camera is in place. It doesn't look symmetrical as what would be expected but as you point out it would be under the glass and would not be visible so that would obviously not matter.

I really hope their is a front mounted camera as well. Not for video calling as that is done so rarely it seems pointless but for other applications that the iPhone could use it for. Anyone thinking iPhone Photo Booth?? Then again El Jobso might pull something else out of the bag that would actually make video calling popular. Creating a market as it were. The speculation is killing me and that darn Countdown to WWDC widget is not helping!!!

Hmm, If these are real I think I prefer the older iPhone. I'm not to keen on the glossy backs. I guess we shall have to wait and see...Not long now!!!

if this is a real prototype, they are screwed if it only comes in that color. I don't care what features the device has, that looks like a cheap price of crap. I really don't see how they could improve on the phones design without changing much from the origional. Personally, I love the aluminum finish on the first iPhone and I would feel cheated if apple realeases the next iPhone with a plastic type feel

Chill out, if it is what it says it is, it's just a sample case mock up sent to case manufacturers for sizes and feature placement, not color or material. If it isn't a mock up for case manufacturers it's only pictures of one individual phone, not a bank of 20,000 white iPhones so there's no saying it only comes in white. Though, a photo of 25,000,000 white iPhones may sway my opinion. ;)

Ever since the announcements of the first iphone, I always wondered if the apple on the back would light up like on the MB & MBP. I hope it is something they incorporate. It would be cool to if it blinked when getting a call too, even the ability to change its color would be cool.

Haha no front video camera!

Phew, now I don't feel so bad having a 1st generation. No missing out on toooo much!
:)

Why, its not beneficial to the operation of the phone and you can get a case that looks just as good without it being aluminum.

True but I love that brushed aluminum look and feel. It's very professional as many have stated. That plasticy feel cheapens it. It's all shiny and stuff . . you could blind somebody with that thing LOL.

Alienware style, no thanks!!!

I found these posted on AI.

I like how opinions can change in a years time. Flash back to white plastic days and plastic was feminine and high class European. Then everyone copied apple's design strategy making plastic the cheap norm.

Spot on lol, in the most obvious sense of the word. That is definitely not a gen 1 case. Try fitting iPhone 1 in that lol, serious tight (not happening) squeeze unless that guy has the worlds largest fingers putting everything out of proportion!! :D

I have it from a good source that the guy holding the phone is 3' 10" tall and hands are proportional to his body size even if his feet are large and furry.

I don't get why they had to go with plastic though what was wrong with aluminum? its malleable, green and better looking. Maybe reception issue but i doubt. I prefer the look of iPhone 1. If this is the final design then i might just go and get me a 16GB iPhone 1.

Then again iPhone had fake prototypes distributed around to throw people off. This may be the case here, i'll maintain skepticism till i see one powered on and in use

EDIT: Just wanted to clarify, yes i know aluminum hampers radio signals. When i say i doubt about the reception issue i mean they can easily build in a plastic area for the antennae like they do on all current aluminum products which work fine. So i fail to see why they went all tacky plastic.

Aww c'mon. Be imaginative. Don't you like how it looks on the notebooks?

Yes it definitely looks very stylish on the Macbooks, but on the iPhone it would just look tacky, with different colour options being even worse!!!

Also it is a waste of battery. The Apple logo's on the Macbooks are lit by the screen which has to provide light anyway, on the iPhone its pointless and probably not feasible.

There is a Sony Ericsson phone out at the moment that has stupid LED's on either side that shine into your hands when you are operating it. They look tacky and waste battery a pretty bad combo!!

Have you ever wondered what that large piece of plastic slapped onto the bottom back of the iPhone is for?? If reception wasn't an issue through the metal used on the back of the phone, do you think they would have put that there??

Hardly a white lie!

My guess is that these leaked photos are all dummy prototypes in white plastic. Aluminum versions would costly to make and send out for sizing, since it would be the only new manufacturing piece added. I'll bet the next 3G iPhone is a one piece aluminum back cover, consistent to the iPod family.

Can someone leak the spy photos of the iTouch nano already!

I don't understand why people are so convinced there is no front camera... AS SOON as I saw these pics, I noticed the area around the earpiece and there was no doubt in my mind that there was a camera. That "smudge" looks too big to be anything but a camera. The current sensors are tiny and could not be mistaken for a camera. I'm not saying I KNOW that's a camera. I'll just say I wasn't doubting it until I read through this thread.

I think the pics are legit and we will see a front camera. Just my $.02. :)

I hope that's the case, LOL no pun intended.

Hahaha ok, I get the point. Maybe they could make it akin to the notebooks in the way you said, i.e. the screen providing the light? I understand the tackiness factor your tryind to prove though.
