New A8 iPod Touch Clocks in at 1.10GHz, Includes 1GB RAM and Bluetooth 4.1

I noticed since iOS 8.4 that some games I play on my ol' 5th iPod Touch have significant frame rate drops since before the update, which I knew meant that the 6th generation of iPod Touch with faster CPU was around the corner, because Apple loves to cripple software performance on old devices to drive a hardware upgrade path.
As opposed to what? Crippling them by not updating them so you get heaps of bugs and security holes and no new apps and features. Oh wait that's what android does! Do you complain that your 2002 computer has trouble running the latest games on windows 10?
Considering that very old devices are getting ios 9 with a slight upgrade inperformance, you're complaint seems even more baseless.

Planned obsolescence. Apple should be taken to court for that, it's unethical fraud and spitting in the face of Apple consumers.
Seriously? Get over it. Show me a 3 year old android phone that runs as good as ANY 3 year old iOS device. Same goes for computers average Mac is kept about 5 years compared to Windows machines that are like sloths after 5 years. People are still rocking iPhone 4S and 5, iPad 2,3,4 and 2010 Macbook.

Gut check pal, get your facts straight.

I checked my local ("flagship") Apple Store during lunch, no new iPod Touch models in stock yet and no idea when they would be arriving... so I ordered online instead, already "preparing for shipment".
I've owned several dozen Apple devices and over half a dozen iPods, but never a Touch! So i'm actually quite excited to use this as my primary Apple Music Device (TM).

I'm just glad a dedicated media player was released with better specs than the 5G so that I can look to upgrade in the future.

I'm a happy camper.

How about 64 GB standard with 128 and 256 upgrade options? That'd shake things up.

from a marketing standpoint, if they're still willing to buy 16GB and 32GB, you'd just have the options. to make money.

the only time they will change when these 128GB and 256GB are just sitting on the shelves.

Which is what they did with the iPhones, i didnt research, but one can make an intelligent guess and see that the 32GB was upsetting the 64GB and the 128GB

so they changed it to 64GB as the base price to sell those 64 GB. and it incites the consumer to buy a new iPhone with a storage upgrade since its tripled the space not doubled.

now, the 16GB - the cheapest model will alway sell, because simply for the fact its the cheapest, and a lot unexperienced users will think 16GB is enough.

64GB - more people that didnt think it was worth it to upgrade storage space will now upgrade since its tripled the storage space. Not to mention everyone that planned on getting 32GB phones are now getting 64GB.

128GB - some of the 64GB buyers will head to here, but sales really isn't going to improve here much, people will get it if they really need it or have the money, or enthusiasts.

now the 5S has 16GB and 32GB - For people like :"hey i don't need all the new crap or want to pay that much, but i need an iPhone that has more storage space then 16GB.

Its a pretty good marketing plan, their incentive is to push that middle tier iPhone.

That storage upgrade costs what like 5-20 dollars for apple? so appealing that mid tier iPhone to the masses is pretty ideal. They make the most bang out of it and its the most marketable. (yeah 128GB is going to be a hard sell to average consumers)

Hopefully someone tests the GPU soon. 4" devices are about 30% lower resolution than 4.7" devices and the CPU is about 30% down-clocked so a 30% drop on the GPU would be right in line.

BT4.0 hardware may be capable of BT4.1 with a software update, but what are the regulatory requirements? I doubt Apple is going to want to recertify all their existing devices with all the regulatory agencies around the world.

Well this 9to5 article says that BT4.1 will be available on iPhones and iPads coming this year

ANY Android! LMAO!

Little do you know but Google's actually IMPROVED performance on older Androids with every new iteration of the OS.

Buahahaha.

Except the vast majority of people on Android either cant or ever upgrade older devices to the latest software. Try again.

My old Android devices (HTC Evo 3D, Motorola Xoom, LG Optimus 3D) chug along far better than my iPod Touch 4G, which constantly crashes because of the crippling low amount of RAM.

These aren't 'facts', rather opinions based on personal experience, so there's nothing to get straight.

OS version is independent of API version. Outside of the 4.0 ICS rendering layer, there's very very few apps that require a specific version of Android. (Mainly Android Wear) The Google Play Services API is still updating Gingerbread devices to give them access to the new features, independent of what the default launcher and settings menu shows the end user.

Your touch is 5 years old. I was referring to 5 year old macs and 3 year old iOS devices that still run decent enough to use. And if me seeing /knowing many people with 2-3 year old iOS devices isn't fact enough.....

Because Apple's entire philosophy is to sell you an obsolete and crippled product. That's how they get you to upgrade in a year and buy another one that has a feature that should have been part of the original product.

This will most likely be the last Touch upgrade for many years (it might even be the last). Touch ID was most likely left out for cost reasons and sizing issues.

It's not 'planned obsolesce'. The iPod Touch 5th generation launched in 2012 and was built on iPhone 4S internals from the previous year geared towards the lower end of the market. It's gone through three major iOS revisions and will be receiving iOS 9 in the fall. That's four years of software support.

it means that the IPHONE 6C will get the A8 and hopefully the same 4'' screen as before!! Im very happy. Its quite obvious to me that they should keep a line of small - medium - huge phones, without any compromises.

I have an iPod Touch 5g and I could tell you from experience that it isn't really "4 years of COMPLETE software support." For example, for whatever reason, the iPod Touch won't be getting the hugely useful Lower Power Mode Feature that is found in the iPhones. In this way, the iPod Touch 5g has been getting iOS support, but not the complete that some thought it might receive. I for sure thought that this Low Power Mode would be arriving in the iPod Touch as it is a software implementation that doesn't rely on any specific hardware.

Hugely bummed by this fact, but in other aspects, it seems like iOS 9 has better battery life on my Touch than iOS 8. When I was running the iOS 8 beta, battery life and performance was just terrible.

Just my 2 cents on the issue...

Don't forget about the 10% discount if you bring in an old iPod to recycle. I know I have a couple of (8-10 years old?) broken Shuffles and Nanos gathering dust in a drawer.

There's no competition in the market, so iPod progress occurs whenever the parts run out for the last generation.

This also is a good sign that the ATV4 will be A8-based as well.
