New AirPods Model Numbers Show Up in Bluetooth Database, Hinting at Upcoming Release

I've been holding from buying a pair of them for quite a long time, expecting the second model to have improved quality sound. The current AirPods have a good sound already, but they sound pretty much like the wired EarPods, so I didn't see the deal.
This time around I'll buy them, even if the improvement in sound quality is small.

I plan on buying a pair regardless. Black or space grey would be nice.
I really need a new set because mine have lost more than 50% of their volume over time. Not going to buy another set until at least wireless charging is available.

I have a hunch that the new AirPower will also charge the iPad Pencil...
I have to admit, I’m rather disappointed by AirPods so far. Besides the one-size-fits-none, I really wish they would make them easier to pair with my iPhone or iPad just like they made it easier to pair with the Apple TV.
The swipe-up-touch-little-target-touch-little-target-goddammit-swipe-up-touch-little-target-wait-for-it-wait-for-it-there-it-is-touch-wait gesture is such a pain. I thought the little AirPod window would just pop up with the Connect button every time. That would be useful.

Yep the Watch and airpods are a marriage made in heaven. Totally eliminates the requirements for controls on the airpods.
My left one died a while ago and they replaced it under warranty but only the left one. Now the right one runs out of juice like 20% earlier. It’s SO annoying. Apple has really become penny pinchers.
Anyway, any idea how to clean the case? Mine is full of black stuff I can’t get off. Looks almost magnetic

Just like when they found new iPhone SE sku#’s hinting at an upgrade.. Sorry, I’ll believe it when Apple actually releases an official announcement until then not convinced. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just a wireless charging case they released for the existing airpods
Are you playing the music on the Apple Watch? Or playing it on the phone and using the Now Playing on the watch to control the volume? It clearly does not happen when you spin the dial on the watch face. Or I’m doing it wrong.

You can't change volume on the watch face, but you can set the Watch to open the proper audio app any time you play audio on your phone. It stays open by default so you can just use the crown to control volume.
Still not as convenient as having controls on the AirPods though.
it will prob take a while before they get announced, I got a replacement pair just yesterday since had them since launch and are having issues.
I think some people don't realize that this is a supporting reason why controls on the AirPods aren't going to happen. The main reason being that the fantasy idea is simply impossible with the current design. But they aren't going to redesign them entirely around this idea of a feature, when they have a better solution already.
Not everyone has an Apple Watch, but that's really too bad. Get one. The complete experience has been designed this way.
I agree. For me to upgrade, I want that, volume control and noise cancelling.
Suggest you buy them now on discount. It's hardly a big ordeal to tap the earpiece two times to activate Apple's horrible digital assistant to incorrectly do things for you
Airpods 1.1 are not the big improvement, rather the 2nd gen with noise cancellation will actually provides a big improvement. Oh and a way to easily change the volume would be immense useful.
But wireless charging and "Hey siri", yawn. I can plug into a powercord which will just charge them faster anyway.
The original Airpods were "published" on Nov 20 2016 with BT, and they launched on Dec 13 2016. Maybe I can ask Santa for the new version this year.

Well, no the EarPods design was the result of a study that involved thousands of ears.
However, the AirPods, which use the same exact design, are inexplicably larger than the EarPods. You can check this yourself by comparing them, to find AirPods are volumetrically bigger. This bothers me because it means that they wanted to keep the same design that was derived from a legitimate study, but couldn't because of the increased components, so they pretended to while making it bigger.
I really do wish they could offer a version that has interchangeable gel tips + optional wings. I go back and forth between using BeatsX and AirPods, and BeatsX destroys AirPods in terms of secure fit and comfort. AirPods obviously beat BeatsX in many other ways, but comfort is not one of them.
Anyone that says AirPods are comfortable to wear...just trying laying your head on a pillow with one in your ear and tell me you still agree. That hard plastic sliding/rubbing is worse than nails on a chalkboard.
I really do love and hate AirPods at the same time.
Would love to see them go with Bluetooth 5.0. It offers 2x the speed, which means better battery life as the same data can be transmitted quicker which allows them to go back to resting state (not using as much battery) quicker. Up to 50% less power consumption. It also offers 4x the range and duel audio.
You'll be waiting for a long time. The beauty of the AirPods are their simplicity. Apple won't bloat them with any controls. You can use voice, the iPhone, or the crown on an Apple Watch.
