I really wonder you haven’t noticed it yet, but the fact is that iPhones SE typically are the iPhones of the prior generation to the current one with updated internals. So my guess is that next SE will be a XS (5.8 screen, w/regular notch, w/just 2 cameras) with other internals updated. It can’t be an updated XR or 11 because if that were the case, as both of them are 6.1 screens, would cannibalize the current iPhone 12.
You may want to save my comment for the moment when it’s launched so you can verify what I am assuring. 😉
Edit: I think I know how will be the next SE, but I’m not sure if it will be launched on 2021 or until 2022. That’s still uncertain to me.

I can't understand why the iPhone 12 mini didn't become the 'new' SE. It surely would've made more sense to sell a smaller phone as a budget product - especially in marketing terms.
They will not be new SE this year. It took years to update the last one.
I'm interested in the new SE. Hope it's (a) not OLED, (b) has squared edges, (c) has touch ID.
I was just thinking about this. The battery and screen are smaller, so it makes sense to me that it becomes the SE. "Small edition" since "Special" doesn't really apply.
I would much prefer to get an updated 4.7in iPhone SE with home button and bezels, 4gb ram and current tech (cpu, bluetooth, wifi, staying with 4G is fine, LCD screen is fine) than the the iPhone 12 Mini.
So I hope Apple keeps making the iPhone SE 4.7in in the future.
