I really don't get the point of an iPhone SE plus that is the same form factor as the older 6,7,8 Plus size phones. To me, the appeal of the SE is:
  • Pocket-ability
  • One-Handed Operation
  • Good Hardware at a Great Value
To me, the iPhone 12 Mini is more the form factor that I would like to see in the next SE. Of course, Apple would have to compromise on some of the components to keep the price down. In a couple of years, this might be possible.
Can’t say I get the appeal of an “SE Plus” either, but…there’s most likely a market segment out there that would pay $50 for a bigger screen. Still far, far cheaper than their other big-screen devices. I can see it happening.

Unfortunately, doubt we’ll see the 12 mini form factor on an ”SE” for at least 2-5 years. There are people who still want the home button, and packing the 12-series tech (reminder, this phone is on par with the 12 Pro) into the 12 mini’s form factor took serious innovation that Apple is looking to make serious returns on, for itself and for its shareholders. Big screens came to define smartphone ”luxury” over the last few years, but ironically, this product is a luxury in and of itself.

I hate my AirPod pros. The worst fitting headphone I have ever owned by a country mile. They literally slip out of my ears when I’m sitting down, breathing, eating, walking. I continually am pushing them so I don’t have to ninja catch them.
My original airpods 1, fit so well i could box, run in them without issue. So glad I forked out $400aud for the pros. 🥲🥲

Guys you comments does not make sense:

I can't understand why the iPhone 12 mini didn't become the 'new' SE. It surely would've made more sense to sell a smaller phone as a budget product - especially in marketing terms.

They can never built mini like phone for 399. Mini can become new SE in few years maybe with underscreen Touch ID. Otherwise they could reuse original SE. SE is build reusing old production tools that were already. amortized.

I would have bought the mini if it had the same camera module as the Pro. Having the latest chipset in a smaller package is appealing to some

You would not buy it because it would have even smaller battery and SE like battery life. You would not shell 700 USD.

Too many iPhone mini bigots in the world. People like their luggage phones. I wish we would see the new mini become popular but, I don't think that will happen. Who knows what will happen with a possible SE refresh.

It was not hit on christmas but I think it will be selling normally and can bring switchers as has little competitiopn on Android side.

I couldn't disagree more. There are people, like me, who want a powerful phone with a smaller form factor.
This is very different from wanting a small-ish phone cuz it's cheap.
This is one of reasons why they build mini like it is. Their user preference research will be way better then ours.

IMO, a 3rd-Gen SE in the same 5.5" chassis as the 7+ & 8+ could be a BIG winner !

Ideally, A14 + 4 GB of DRAM + 1080p LCD & priced @ $549 USD.

And, ideally, drop the Telephoto Camera, & don't include ANY Ultra-Wide, & include the absolute best 1.4um pixel 12 Mpx image sensor Apple has for both the Back Wide & Front Cameras !

It's the type of design Apple should have never migrated away from; i.e., they should have offered an upgraded version every year, instead of stopping @ the 8+ !

Hopefully, we will see more iPhone converts from the iPhone mini. It is such a wonderful device.

I've got the Airpods Pro and the Google Pixel Buds 2.

Sure, the Airpods are more stable and have noise cancellation.

But I prefer Google's 'disc inside your ear' design, with no stems.

Also... I can control volume on the Pixel Buds.

I often fall asleep listening to music, and so just ordered a pair of AirPods 2 as they're more conducive to that usage than the Pros. I have a pair of Pros, which are great when they work well. They've been exchanged multiple times and I have a standing deal with an Apple Exec liaison to exchange the Pros for a new pair...even a next gen exchange. Hopefully the April 2021 timeframe is right.
Yeah, the regular design is perfect for that as if you roll onto them they just sorta fall out and don't get jammed in deeper.

I can't stand having something stuck deep into my ear. The regular AirPods just sit there, and are so comfy for me. Everyone's ears are different, so both designs should remain.

iPhone SE - 2016
Uses previous gen body parts to be cheap w/ modern processor

iPhone SE - 2020
Uses previous gen body parts to be cheap w/ modern processor

*rumored* iPhone SE - 2021
Ummmm....

Yeah, probably need 3-4 years in between these; so there’s some parts!
People looking for the $399 iPhone are NOT the ones looking for yearly refreshes.

It feels like they're trying to push the SE to be the hybrid between iPhone and iPad mini for the cheaper or other crowd who maybe can't have or don't want both.

I don’t know about you but for many people during these times, 700 bucks for the 12 mini isn’t “cheap”. So most probably Apple is planning to release a $399 SE for them.

But at this point it will be cheap for Apple to update the 8 plus like they did the 8. The plus sized phones were popular (still are) and I will def purchase if this is their plan. The current SE is too small in screen, battery and resolution for my needs.

Samsung are making phones at nearly every price point, Apple are just responding to the market.

Perhaps the market is saying that TouchID in a larger phone will be preferable in these COVID times so they drop the Xr and replace it at the 499 starting price point with an SE Plus = dusting off the old 8 Plus design and putting in A13 CPU SoC.

This means the SE, SE Plus, and 11 will be on the same SoC, it also means that the 11 may actually just drop off the lineup altogether in September when (as we would expect) the 12 drops into its current spot as the 599 phone because the SE will be the replacement - although some might have preferred to have an iPhone 11 for 499 in September with its 6.1 inch screen and FaceID over a 5.5 inch screen and TouchID.

I actually like the little stem on the AirPod Pro. I don’t like the big stem on the regular AirPod, but the little stem looks better and I like pinching it to control things. On my AirPods I would often accidentally invoke the tap gesture when trying to adjust them. The design is also very Apple, which I don’t care about but Apple does. Brand recognition is important when trying to sell products, especially good ones with a unique look.

If you want a bigger screen with better battery life, why not buy the XR for $499? It has a bigger screen the the old plus size iPhones and better battery life. If the SE is $400, surly, an SE Plus would about the price of an XR.

I guess the only reason to buy an SE plus over XR is that some folks prefer Touch ID. I can't believe the difference between an A12 and A13 chip would be noticeable by most people.

Apple should update at the current SE to 6.1", and introduce a new 6.7" SE Plus to match the size of 12 Pro Max. Apple needs to offer more large screen phones at much lower prices

I'll buy an iPhone SE when it can take decent night time photos. OLED would be nice, no reason not to have OLED across the entire range now.

USB-C, it has to happen at some point right?

I prefer the design (wider, square display), build (thinner body) and 1080p of the Plus iPhones. They were the flagships of their day. The XR and 11 are the budget options, too thick and 828p resolution - I'm not a fan.

Is there any truth to the rumor that they're going to discontinue the "regular AirPods" form factor? I don't like the Pro-style earbuds that work like earplugs; I like the regular ones which just sit in the ear and don't go all the way in.

If they're going to be discontinued soon I may buy one last pair so I can keep using the design I like for a few more years at least, as my current pair has dying batteries.
no truth to that rumor. the design for AirPods have been around since 2012 (EarPods) without any need for change. You might expect the stem to shorten like AirPods Pro, but I won’t hold my breath for a change that isn’t necessary.

That’s funny you say that. This has been my experience with the regular AirPods. I always joke that if I breathe to hard they fall out. Thinking about buying the pros tomorrow. I’ve always liked the rubber tip style buds. Back in the day of cords/mic jacks I always used the skull candy ones and have enjoyed them. I’m hoping the AirPod Pros are similar to that.
