Good riddance, Mighty Mouse! Going through three of them in three weeks time because of a design flaw is absurd.

More like a "user flaw". ;)

There's nothing wrong with Apple's mouse (apart from the silly squeeze button which can be turned off anyway), although obviously nothing is ever going to please everyone. I know about ten people who use the Mighty Mouse daily, most since it was released and some by two or more different people during the day, and there have been no problems at all with any of them.

That very well may be true. And I'm sure there are many others who absolutely love their Mighty Mice, but the majority of people who express their opinions are usually the ones who have felt wronged or cheated by the quality of the product. And most of the time, the people who have everything working right don't comment on it.
But I do think that there is a lot of potential with these new products and I personally do believe the good old MM needs an upgrade :)

I've been hoping for black keys, but it would make the white cable on the wired version look even more out of place, and I don't think they're switching to black cables anytime soon.
That is one of the reasons I think the new keyboards will be wireless only, and come by default on the iMac.

I hope not - they eat batteries and weigh a ton (not to mention look silly with no numberpad). :(

If they're making black keys on the keyboard, then it isn't hugely difficult to make a black wire as well. :) More difficult is the fact that they would have to also change the colour of everything else: keyboard, mouse, Mac Mini, MacBook, Apple TV, Airport Express, Time Capsule, Apple Remote, USB modem, video adaptors, iPod Classics, iPod docks, ... etc., etc. The list is near endless since most of Apple's products are white and would require a massive change at Apple.

I change my batteries about once every 3 months. Something I can easily live with. Weight -- um ok don't see a problem.

The lack of the numberpad is a feature, I wish I could find decent keyboard for my PC without a numberpad. I love not having the mouse so far away.

This may be interesting.

Although, how would you operate 'Spaces' and 'Expose'? And when I hold a mouse, I at least have two fingers on top of it when moving. Would shifting the fingers by accident when moving conflict with my execution? This is much more complex than the ordinary trackpad on MacBooks IMO. I'm sure Apple thought this through though.

Please, Apple. Black backlit keys - puhleeeeze! Anything else will be nice, but I just can't stand white keys on a keyboard.

yes.

but only for the fact that I have a 3GS, iPod Classic, Touch and Nano, I figured the Shuffle is the only thing missing, but I don't see myself using it often :)

but a new touch screen apple remote that was not wifi dependent would be nice. and as much as Ive been waiting to buy a new BT keyboard, i really need one with the numeric keypad. i'll even take a new keyboard thats wired as long as it still has the numeric keypad + backlit.

Yeah, right. You people and your "I want touchscreen remotes". There are great touchscreen remotes available to purchase right now, go get one. And with the proper software, you can control any PC or Mac. Not to mention any TV/theater stuff you might have.

Do you really want one?? Go on, we'll wait for your user report.

BTW, I have a wired keyboard that is backlit. Under $40. I use it in my theater...plugged into my Mac.

Ugh. I've been waiting for Apple to release the keyboard I want and it looks like they STILL aren't going to if these rumors are correct.

APPLE: If you want me to buy a keyboard from you, the number keys are non-negotiable. I use them too much to be without them. Backlit would be nice as well, but the number keys are the most important thing. Without them, NO SALE!!!

Keyboard will be a multitouch.. keyboard.. :p
I know as my cousins knows someone that knows steve.
he also said powerbook G5 are being released next week

I have scratched my head for years wondering why apple can build so many things so well except the mouse? They allways try to do something off the beaten path hence Apple mice have sucked for decades.

Apple is trying to get the world to beat a path to its door. One way to do that is to build a better mousetrap. The other way is to build a worse mouse.
:D

Wetness, Mac-Style

I find it funny that the top article on mac rurmors and tuaw and appleinsider is about.......a new apple keyboard and mouse. Give me a F^^^ing break. This borders on the ridiculous. Given that there are many excellent alternate choices ...especially in the mouse arena, well, it is just laughable. Must be a slow news day.

People, relax....its a f^^^ing keyboard and mouse, not the coming of the messiah.

Thank goodnes Macinstein didn't have it...just photos of a cute chick rubbing herself down with an Apple product. Now THATS news!

Small & Tiny

I'm on my BT keyboard all day and it eats batteries (one reason I got rechargeable ones). A backlight certainly isn't going to help matters any. POSSIBLY the inclusion of a light sensor would help reduce the drain, but still...

And, I want a numeric keypad!!! When my 2006 MP failed and Apple replaced it in 2008 I had to send them back my full sized BT keyboard with numeric pad and was sent the new aluminum one lacking the keyboard instead. That was the only raw part of the deal. I'm still hoping that just like on the MBPs when they went all glossy, Apple will realize the errors of it's ways and bring back the full sized BT keyboard.

But Apple is into small & tiny in such a big way that we're lucky that our keyboards are not the size of ones on a very small cell phone. The iPhone is large compared to what they seem to want to make.

Those of us that need a keypad on our keyboard may actually use the keypad more than the keyboard. A separate keypad is not s very good deal. I have 2 or 3 of them to use rather than the useless keyboards on a portable Mac or new BlueTooth keyboard. My old ADB model with built-in calculator that is connected to an ADB to USB adaptor is the nicest. But we now into several pieces to carry.

I used the old BlueTooth plastic keyboard with a numeric keypad but did not like its action. I've been using the current AL keyboard with the bult-in keypad. It takes a lot of getting used to with little or no tactile feedback meaning that there are many missing letters. In fact I've had problems at time with key bounce problems. That is something I've never had in the 31 plus years I've had a home computer. This keyboard is small enough to carrry in my shoulder 17" laptop bag. My older wired keyboards or the plastic BlueTooth Apple keyboard require my backpack bag to take the much larger keyboards.

I was hopeful that the prior new AL BlueTooth keyboard would be a full keyboard. Buut small & thin was in so we did not see the much needed keypad & the additional keys between the main keyboard & the numeric keypad. Apple will now have a chance to correct their short sightedness & give the rest of us the keyboard that we need. The worst part of this is that many 17" non Apple laptops have bulit-in keypads. That would be the least to make mme happy. But then with the small & thin thing there would be no place to put the speakeers that I always have turned off when I deal with my customers.

Being an Excel User of 24+ years I like the "=" key on the numeric keypad. That is why most Windows keyboards & almost all numeric keypads are not good choices. Other than light use of the plastic Apple BT keyboard & minimal Laptop keyboard use I have not used an Apple keyboard in over 20 years.

I've have used a trackball since I first saw one & a Kensington TurboMouse since they first came out. For that reason I have only minutes of use with Apple mice. That use was not very enjoyable either. I have a Kensington trackball/mouse unit that has a very small marble sized ball but the software is not compatible with the TurboMouse software so it is one or the other. The TurboMouse wins out almost as much as it does over all of Apple's pointing devices. Even though I am a trackball user I do not like a trackpad either. That is at least those on a Mac laptop. I don't have any experience with any Windows laptops.

BlueTooth Mac keyboard with a numeric keypad will make me happy as with many others here. An Apple mouse that will make others happier would be nice for all also. They can keep making the smaller keyboard if they want to. I'm not one of those that believe that anything other than what I like & want is all that Apple should make. I believe that Apple is selling more units now. That means the small groups are getting bigger. Also some of these groups will be bigger if given the product that they need. For most of us a Windows computer is not an option. For this reason any threat of changing would give no actual results. It would just make us happier.

If Apple wants to stay small on the keyboard, would it be too much to ask for an add-on module that would snap in/lock in on the right and make it just like this 4-year-old MEGA CLUNKER I have? I like having the numeric keypad because I actually learned how to use it, and it's way faster when entering numbers (see: tagging video files with episode numbers). These notebook-wannabe keyboards do in a pinch, but isn't the point of an external keyboard to have something more functional? Does anybody else not care to figure out the 15 functions each key has on those darn things?

The Apple Bluetooth Keyboard works with the Bluetooth option in your Mac to provide a cable-free way to interact with your system at a distance of up to 10 meters (33 feet). A robust 128-bit over-the-air encryption keeps sensitive information safe as it is being typed. Apple is the first to deliver intelligent software to prevent interference with Airport wireless networks without any performance degradation.:)

While we're on the subject of bluetooth, anyone know how to decrease the range of the keyboard? It's ridiculous that I can still operate the computer when I'm 15 meters away.

Well the root word for the site is Mac. This site is dedicated to Mac rumors, news, product information, etc. One could argue that there are many excellent alternate choices in the computer market or personal music market. Should they not cover those products either? If you don't like reading about Apple products, well, then don't.

OMG, a square mouse, looks like Microsot is still in the lead.

Wireless Keyboards

The thing that really annoys me about wireless keyboards are the batteries. I *hate* having to go and buy batteries if I've left my computer for a while and forgotten about the low battery warning.. especially if it's night and the shops are shut. Let the dreaded battery hunt commence.

Admittedly, I haven't used any of the more recent wireless keyboards, but I'd appreciate it if they had a usb port so if I unexpectedly run out of juice I can just plug it in and use it wired until I can get some more battery power.

Just for the record, refurbished mouse's and keyboard's price declined from 59€ to 55€ and from 69€ to 65€ respectively in the last weeks. So, it looks like price reductions in the refurbished store somehow point to a new product release.

Why not just put 2 proper buttons on the mouse or create a division in the touch sensitive area so you can click both buttons at the same time. I like the mighty mouse but the inability to click both buttons at the same time makes it useless for playing WoW.

Why would anyone want a trackpad for a DESKTOP mac? Trackpads were invented for laptops where a mouse couldn't be used, lets not take the trackpad where a mouse actually CAN, and should, be used.
