It's about damn time

I don't know how much longer my 18.1" Sony X82 LCD monitor is going to last. It's already been 5 years and I keep putting off a new purchase in the hopes that Apple will pull something out of their magic hat.

LED? Sign me up.

HDMI/DisplayPort? I'll take it.

24" @ 1920x1200? (Please no 1080 or I'll cry.)

iSight built-in? There better be, or I'll open up a can of whoop-ass on Apple's face.

That's all I ask for. Just keep the prices reasonable please.

Built in iSight is a waste of money and resources.
The new iSight HD could easily be housed in an iPod shuffle style of clip so that we can market to PCs with a PC version of iChat.

I would much rather see a 20" HD ACD start at $299 and go up to a 42" HD ACD for $1499. The inclusion of HDMI would be welcomed also.

Looking forward to get new Apple cinema 30", it's better to stay in the same price range !

Will Resolution Independence (RI) ever come? Because then Apple could finally introduce higher dpi monitors.
Right now it seems even Snow Leopard will not have it. And without Apple even announcing RI, developers will never adapt their code to it.

What if taking a $2000 hit per monitor sold is the 'product transition' Apple was talking about?

Nope because the impact of the transition would be on the firm's gross margins. It boils down the weighting of products sold across Apple's product line. The number of monitors sold is small relative to Macs. I think the transition has something to do with the price of Macs. I think we'll see a price reduction across the board for the entire Macintosh line.

well, i think a lot of people will love tho see new displays. lets hope the prices stay the same though

Let's hope they're a lot lower. LCD prices have falllen dramatically since the ACD were last refreshed. A small premium, yes, but not the huge one that current ACDs carry.

Touch!

Touch screens on the displays! I've been saying it all year. Apple will integrate Cocoa Touch into its mainstream OS. No, you won't throw away your keyboard. But you will be able to touch your screen, and probably lie it flat or near-flat on a desk.

well, one way to "reconcile" with the exorbitant price of 30 inch LED screen would be ELIMINATING it.

No way. Anyone who is used to a 30" isn't going to drop to a smaller display. (speaking from experience, and my option)

Why does everyone want the built-in iSight in these monitors? Many of us would be running these monitors off iMacs and MacBooks/MacBookPro's, which already have iSights. The rest of you would be running Mac Pros -- and I picture you as relatively hard-core power users if you need the power of a Pro versus an iMac or laptop. You really want a cheap webcam embedded in your displays? And those of you running dual-monitor setups, you want two cameras?

Agreed. No built in iSight, please.

Apple also said the transition would "cost" it 5% in margins so that kills that theory. Also Apple was talking about product due in Q4 (current quarter). MWSF '09 would be in Apple's Q2 for FY'09.

Not only that 30" isn't even consider a "large" monitor anymore. It's rather standard in A/V. I remember back in the day when Apple came out with the first 22" Cinema pro. It seems ginormous. Today 22-23"ers give me claustrophobia when trying to edit.

iScreen is comign

Jobs will reveal the touch-enabled iScreen, a wall-mountable HD display (the "digital whiteboard") with a built-in digital tuner that's comparable to and possibly better than HDTVs on the market in its display classes, and it will come bundled with AppleTV. Native iTunes downloads, iPhone and iPod touch as remote controls. In fact, maybe he'll even offer a "full package" where people can buy an iScreen, AppleTV, and an iPod Touch all in one bundle.

Just in time for the transition to digital TV in February.

MacRumors has heard that Apple is prepping for Cinema Display refreshes for the Macworld San Francisco 2009 conference which takes place between January 5th-9th, 2009 at the Moscone Center. The new Cinema Displays are expected to incorporate LED backlights to fulfill Steve Jobs' promise that Apple would completely eliminate flourescent-backlit displays. The transition timeframe depended on "how fast the industry [could] transition to LED backlighting for larger displays."
:eek::rolleyes::confused::D:)

YAY!

Finally eh? It's about time too. And this is a MacRumors source, which has historically been pretty accurate.

And does this mean that there will be new Mac Pros released at MWSF? Good combination if you ask me.

While LED displays as large as 30" are commercially available, they still appear to be cost prohibitive with Samsung's 30" LED display priced at $4735. We're uncertain how this price discrepancy with Apple's current displays will be reconciled.
Oh I'm certain. They'll be priced even higher. And maybe the existing ACDs will still be available as a lower-cost option.

they had better have blue ray or no one will even consider it:rolleyes:
LMAO

Possible features?
  • LED with regular LCD option for a lower cost?
  • New designs that take cues from the iPods, iMacs, and notebooks (does this mean that the Mac Pro will also get a design change?)?
  • Higher resolutions (20": 1920·1200, 26.7": 2560·1600, 40": 3840·2400)?
  • Additional features like HDMI?
  • Built-in iSight as an option?
  • Multi-touch (even if it's a secondary display)?

Of course I just bought at 23 inch...

But it only cost me $575 and $19 for AppleCare...

But still!
