So the way it sound is that the case is very tight fitting?? Is the piece where the lightning cable port pretty sturdy? does the case move around while the phone is in it? I just like really tight fitting cases and it seems like this is one.

This case is a VERY tight fit. Once it's in, it's in there for the long run lol.

Picked up a black leather case for my space grey 5s today after all of the positive reviews. I have to admit I love this case. I've gone through a ton of cases for the 5 and I like this one the best yet. Nice work apple.

Has anyone tried to use the new leather case with an iPhone 5s and Amazon's version of the lightning connector? Are they compatible? I ask as I know Amazon's connector is a little wider than Apple's connector and does not fit with some cases.

I like the potential durability of the Amazon cable due to its different style of sheathing. Apple cables, to me, were best back in 2005. Since then, they just come apart near the connectors. I base this on my 1 generation iPod Nano cable still in use on my iPhone 4s...while my oem 3GS and 4s cables all bit the dust.

I plan to purchase the Apple leather case today and order some Amazon style lightning connectors.

I can confirm that the Amazon Basics lightning connector fits. In fact it is an exact fit for the hole in the bottom of the leather case.

It doesn't work in mine :( I had to buy Apple lightning connector.

I have to say that I was skeptical since Apple has never really entered the cases business but out of all the cases I've owned, this one is great and probably my favorite. It's super light, doesn't feel cheap and is very form fitting which is what I like. The only thing I'm wondering is if the "tightness" around the phone will lose it's grip after removing and putting it on over and over.

I have the red one on the white iPhone 5.

Bought the Red on Space Grey...

Looks nice! Wonder how the wear will be over time. IN and out of jeans.

Wow, so the dock doesn't fit the phone with the official case? Not sure how much use that is.
Can you just take it back to the local store from an online order?

I'm enjoying these case photos in the meantime. :p

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I don't recall any Apple produced docks working with a case on the device, even back to the pre-iPhone days. The universal iPod dock was the exception since you just used it without an insert.

My point being - an Apple dock accepting only naked devices is no surprise, it's how it's "always been" as I remember. Makes them effectively useless for anyone who uses a case.

Bring your item to an Apple Store
You can always return the item to any U.S. Apple Retail Store. An Apple Specialist will assist you with your return. Your refund will be processed at that time. To locate an Apple Store in your area, please refer to the Apple Retail Store Locator.

The difference now is that, to my knowledge, Apple has never had an official case, only a bumper (and that was likely due to the antenna issue). Seems strange that they'd create both of these but make them incompatible.

I have to wonder how many people are walking out of the Apple store with both of these or like myself, ordered them in the rush following the 12:01 release.

Thanks for the info.

Certainly a point, though arguable regarding the bumpers when it came to the 4S; both were still produced & marketed despite being incompatible. One might also argue that Apple also sold many ipod, iphone, and ipad third party cases online and in-store which were incompatible with the docks. Apple in fact also had cases for the ipad1 that was incompatible with the ipad docks.

Either way, I can see the ease with which you might assume compatibility and I understand the frustation upon finding out the real situation. It would be nice if they had a way to accomodate cased use of the dock. I think the last device I owned with a workable dock was a Blackberry Curve. Even that didn't work with a case and barely worked with a skin. :)

working out

i put my iphone in an armband case when I work out. in the past i would take it out of its everyday case and put it in the armband case when i worked out. i picked up a new apple case, very hard to take off. any ideas on a armband case that is big enough to fit the iphone with the apple case on it into the armband case? any other suggestions, other than returning the apple case?

I purchased the red version of the apple leather case last Friday. It was an awesome case until I started noticing that the case started to show "blue" marks from my jeans pocket within 2 days!!!

I know that there is a disclaimer that the case may show signs of wear. I have no problems with that but I really don't want a red/blue case with a month !!! LOL

Returned it today and ordered the black color instead.

The colors are great but all will probably have this issue unfortunately :(:(:(
That's disappointing. I like the look of my case, finger hovering over the buy for the red, for use on my silver/white 5, and maybe a gold 5S in future, but I would be using the case in/out of my pants pocket all the time...mmmm....

Try it out and see if it happens to you. If worst comes to worst, just return it and get a different one like MrMister did.

I don't have experience with it, but commonly see posts about new jeans transferring dye to lighter colored leather products (car seats, purses, etc).

Might want to google the topic, there are various products for cleaning and protecting the leather which might help.
