I thought I would chime in on this mega thread with my own Apple case experiences.

Basically my girlfriend was using the green case for her 5S and was complaining about it getting dirty / scruffy. So I swapped it out for my new brown case. I rather enjoyed the discolouration around the edges of her case. It had been used well for ~ 2 months

So since I liked the weathered colour of the edges I set about seeing what I could do to bring that colour to the rest of the case. I took a little bit of olive oil and rubbed it gently into the case to see what would happen. while it didn't do much, it did soak in, and the points where it was already darkened, it 'soaked' better. I then took a tissue (and and started rubbing one of the sides of the case (with the phone in so it was more solid - it was only a little dab of oil after all)

It slowly but surely started darkening similarly (not as fully as the edges) and realised that the darkening is somewhat produced by the polishing effect of hands on the edges of the case and rubbing the tissue on the case was producing a similar effect (yes i'm slow witted)

Excuse the phraseology here but 'rubbing the case more vigourously until it was warm produced a polishing effect' and rubbed some of the green colour / leather off onto the tissue. Realising it was producing a nice effect I contented to abuse the case for few hours over a couple of days until it had the effect you see below.

You can see the edges are still a bit darker, and you can still see some of the lighter leather colour pattern which is deeper in the grain. Overall I find the colour quite pleasing. I enjoyed the original colour but like this even more. It's a long story why I also have a relatively new green case, don't ask :p just enjoy the comparison shots.

Does it have a raised lip on the front or is it flush to the glass?

For me a raised lip will not work well with the new swipe gestures.

It has a raised lip. I have a Tech21 case which also has a raised lip but for me it doesn't bother me a bit when it comes to the swipe gestures.

I prefer your version, how is the brown one going?

Thanks, it's too early to tell with the brown one, (only a couple of weeks) my girlfriend certainly accelerates the weathering process with her gerneral useage, so I'm planning to replicate the same process soon with that case when it's 'ready'.

I shall keep you informed ;)

It's very sad when you spend 40€ on a case like this and it gets dirty and it starts to have discoloration problems on the edges. I bought the red case, and I am very frustrated. It's not visible unless I look closely, but if it just a week old, I can image what it will like when it is 1 year old.

I've had the black case on my 5S since launch and it still looks great! I've always been a naked iPhone kind of guy, but this is super-slim, does its job, and hold up well.

Kind of a dust magnet around the rear camera, but that comes with the territory I suppose.

I decided early on that trying to keep the case perfect is a losing battle. The best part of this thing is the way it wears over time. This is the beige with all of the dye worn off. I do a lot of construction and dirty work, so dirt and abrasives wore it off in a couple months.

Same here, I have the black case for my 5S and so far it's been great. What I like about it best is that it's slim enough to not add a lot of bulk and it provides some texture that permits a more secure grip.

The darker colors tend to mask dirt and wear better than lighter colors. I would suggest people who are considering the OEM Apple case for their phone go with darker colors if possible.

New Apple Leather Case

Did anyone's case brake around the thin part of the headphone port? When I first bought mine I saw a demo version of it at the store with a broken headphone port and asked the genius he mentioned I've got a year of warranty meaning I can exchange it for a replacement for free?

This is by far the only case I've enjoyed using the longest but I must admit signs of it aging so early aren't looking very appealing to me especially considering the price.

Anyone got close ups of their black one after a month or two of use?

Back to the topic at hand!

The leather cases are sturdy but the lip on the front could be a little higher. The Black holds up well. The fit is like a glove..perfect. The feel in your hand is good. Apple warranties the case so if you choose another color and it gets excessively worn they'll exchange it

I think this particular leather conditioner is very well suited to the leather on this case. It's beeswax based, and doesn't change the color at all. I've used it on all of the cases pictured here-except the beige. I collected all 6 colors for no good reason, except I just think it's an interesting product. Also, after all of the dissatisfaction with the premature (but natural) wear, I doubt Apple will ever make another such case for future phones. Might be cool to have a complete unused set when they are discontinued. Or maybe not...:).

You spent over 250 bucks by buying the same case 6 times and post pictures of it? Ok then:)

Well, now that you put it that way it does seem a bit foolish. This is what happens when I combine my compulsive collecting, cabin fever, and EBay. It's been a long winter here....I actually only spent about half that on these cases, as they were all open box/lightly used auction items. I didn't think the picture to be inappropriate for a thread pertaining to the general enthusiasm about the leather cases. At least I'm not trying spam the thread by selling something.;)

Really though, the Obenaufs LP is an excellent leather conditioner for these cases. It's been around a long time. I think I paid 9 bucks for this little tub. Most outdoor outfitters sell it.

Well If you were to sell a case or two. I'm interested :)

Long story short, I got 20% off the case which still puts it over $30 regardless and to me it still isn't worth it. I am going to return it.

I just recently got the 5S and so many good recommendations on this forum not necessarily leather ones though that I feel I want to try some of those that are much cheaper and offer some better protection. I don't know enough about other leather alternatives so the one from Apple may indeed be amongst the better ones out there if that is what one wants.

So I purchased my brown leather case almost two months ago and the thin part around the headphone port broke. It was annoying how much dirt and grime the leather picked up over time and unsatisfied how quickly it deterirated I took it to the Apple store.

I was first told it was wear and tare that warranty doesn't cover the damage, okay... The other genius approached me and it was a whole different story, he went on and explained that it is under warranty and I repeated how much I like the design blah blah blah... he let me exchange my brown for brand new black! :apple: :apple: :apple: :D

So as much as I appreciated the brown leather case on my gold 5S read this, don't end up hating it after only a month or two or be surprised how quickly it wears out, just get black for your daily use. Cheers beers

I will take a brown one for $30. If you are after leather, thin, and a back and sides case their hard to beat, i have tried life proof, piel frama, attelier pall, , spigen, book book, iconic edge, griffin :)

I figured the Apple would be up there. I've read reviews here and on Amazon so figured why not try it. I just don't think it is for me given what it is. The price probably is in line with other leather ones on the market but I'll look towards something else to cover the 5s beauty and keep it safer and pay less as well.

I'm liking ones with an icon cutout on the back to tell the truth but I suppose that icon has more of a chance to get dirty or maybe even fade a bit perhaps going that route.

I have a Brown that I've had since November and it looks pretty bad...now I'm considering taking it to the Apple store to do a swap.

Was some sort of sticker supposed to come with this case? I see some of you have nice apple stickers for the logo on the back..my black case's apple logo is very hard to see and it definitely is not a different color or anything

Stickers do not come with the case. Those people you're seeing ordered 3rd party stickers online.
