New Apple Leather Case

Hmm. Have the gold iphone on order and really like how it looks with the beige case.

A few thoughts I'm wrangling with as I decide if I want to try and pick up a different color locally (not gold obviously due to short supply more than likely)

1) Do I want a case that has front screen shattering protection? It doesn't look like the Apple leather cases are going to provide you with much protection against a drop since they don't have a tremendous amount of rigidity and the lip doesn't extend "up" past the screen to create an impact cushion.

2) Does a clear screen protector offer much drop protection? Maybe combining the two would be a reasonable alternative.

3) Do I want to just protect my investment with a more protective case. I really like the otterbox commuter I have on my 4S. When I take it off I find the phone to be really slippery and delicate feeling. As much as I love the beautiful aesthetic of the phone without a case, I also like protecting my investment.

So much to consider.

I bought the brown leather case for my black iPhone 5. It is (not too surprisingly) a perfect fit, and I think it will provide excellent protection. I was debating between the rather bold product RED case, the safe black case (but I already have a black case) and the brown. It's a nice contrast with the black, and with a predominantly brown wallpaper I think it looks great!

So the only place selling these right now is the apple store ? That's a real bummer the closest one is 45 minutes away and I don't want to risk waiting a week for one to ship

I have a brown case on my gray 5s. The case does extend up past the the edge of the screen and the shell inside the leather exterior feels very rigid. I think it could survive a drop, but obviously there is no guarantee that it will in all situations. I too like to protect my investment. So when I bought the case at the apple store, I also bought AppleCare+.

I do wonder what's meant by leather changing over time. What looks different?

Time will tell, but I imagine the difference between a brand new leather wallet, and a wallet that has been in and out of a pocket over time. I'm really looking forward to the "worn leather" look, but if the leather starts peeling away from the inner shell, I will exchange it for a new one under the 1 year warranty.

I found the cases in my local Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4 U. So it appears they are being sold outside of Apple Stores (certainly in the UK). They didn't have many on the shelves though!

Didn't see any Gold + Brown Leather Case photos so I thought I'd share some quick shots...

Thanks. This is what I ordered as well...just waiting for them to get here. Case shipped yesterday, phone should ship today or early tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have the same combo here within a week. Looks classy, which is what I was going for.

I ended up getting the (PRODUCT) red case. It looks nice and feels great. And it's a dark color. Plus, I'm supporting a good cause :)

I hope the leather is good quality, and not some pleather... If it is good quality, I'll either be picking up the Brown or Beige colors today.

Has anyone tried to use the new leather case with an iPhone 5s and Amazon's version of the lightning connector? Are they compatible? I ask as I know Amazon's connector is a little wider than Apple's connector and does not fit with some cases.

I like the potential durability of the Amazon cable due to its different style of sheathing. Apple cables, to me, were best back in 2005. Since then, they just come apart near the connectors. I base this on my 1 generation iPod Nano cable still in use on my iPhone 4s...while my oem 3GS and 4s cables all bit the dust.

I plan to purchase the Apple leather case today and order some Amazon style lightning connectors.

Recently I picked up the Product red color of this case and have a blue on order (should have bought in store as it would have been quicker). I have reviewed hundreds of iPhone cases and I must say that while apple has been hit or miss with some of the cases they crank out they really hit the mark with this one. In my video review I gave it a 4.5 out of 5.

I enjoy this case so much I may end up picking a black one up as well just to mix things up once in a while.

Interesting note: I went into the apple store twice and I swear the yellow case looks more lime green to me and no I am not color blind.

Pros:

- Light and pretty slim, will not add much bulk
- Slight lay on the table design
- Works with screen shields
- Works with the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5
- Works with some oversized connectors (tested and shown in my video)
- Works with some docks (not sure about the official apple iPhone 5s dock, again I tested and show)

Cons:

- Slightly overpriced for what it is
- Oversized headphone jacks may not work with the cutout on the case, most should. I show and tested my V-Moda M100 plug and it works fine.
- Lighter colors will color transfer (Ex: sliding in and out of jean pockets may show colors on the beige, etc...)

I must say, the brown leather case on the gold phone looks great! I know you can only really tell it's the gold phone by the home button and the ring/silence button but i love it!

I think the black might also look really good, I'm still debating between the two. (probably brown though :p)

Nice video! The cable you used in the video looks similar to the Amazon lightning cable. What brand was it?

I have the Space Gray model and I am debating between the Brown or the Black. I work in a corporate setting and while I like the brown, I am concerned it may look ratty over time to the point where it is less business and more of a casual case. Ah, decisions.

I doubt it will fit. I plan on returning the apple case because most of my chargers will not fit. I can confirm that the Griffin and Verizon cable do fit because they are tapered
