I would hope they would add the following:

- LED screens to coincide with their want to be more environmentally safe
- Santa Rosa Processor Bump (2.0GHz and 2.2GHz, I'm thinking)
- More RAM capacity (Hoping for 4GB, wouldn't be surprised if they left it at 3GB)
- Intel GMA X3100

I would probably be tempted by a machine like this with a maxed out hard drive and RAM slots, although for Leopard's sake and $500 more, you could get a MacBook Pro with 128MB of dedicated video memory.

Ohnoes, the hope is fading!

Thinksecret has posted an update though:
http://thinksecret.com/news/0710macbookrev2.html

ah well, that's because the dark one has spiked this story...and i'm quoting here:

"Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard includes drivers for Intel's GMA X3100 graphics chip, the successor to the GMA 950 that has been used in every MacBook model to date. The X3100 chipset is only found on Satan Rosa platforms."

:p:D

My prediction:

New MB coming out November 6 -- along with upgraded Mac Pro? -- possibly November 13. It will have: Santa Rosa platform with 2.0 and 2.2, X3100, LED screens (remember that massive order of 13.3 LEDs a few months ago?). The casing will be the same as the current lineup.

As for Oct. 30, there's just no way Apple was going to come out with a new MB so close to the release of their new OS. Just think of how many customers came in to buy Leopard and bought new MBs at the same time. But the MB line will be refreshed enough to keep sales running strong through the holidays.

Also, there is no way they will release a MB now with a snazzy new aluminum casing. Then they might as well discontinue the whole MBP line. Apple will, however, come out with slimmer aluminum MBs -- in about April or May, 3-4 months after they announce their radical new design for the MBP.

no

I will be buying a new one when they come out. I just have one question. I've asked this in another topic and I got 2 reactions, one saying yes one saying no. So a final answer on this would be nice :).

If I buy the macbook next week, will I be able to order apple care later in the year to extend my warrenty and phone support to 3 years? I assume apple care is the same all over the world (I live in the Netherlands).

Thanks in advance.

my experience is that you have to buy it at the time of purchase. you could always chat with an apple rep on the apple store and see . . .

sorry, totally wrong. a while ago i was checking with apple about buying the computer and a screen at a later date. the screen isn't covered under the apple care for the cpu. anyway . . . you have until the end of the warrenty to extend with apple care, as a couple people have already mentioned.

Actually I forgot. Thank you. Good points. I agree with all though dissapointed if the case is the same. That thick bezel around the screen is ridiculous IMO. Wasted space.

In my experience, you can buy Apple Care any time up until your initial one-year warranty expires.

Sorry, I posted my correction before I saw yours.

It's true - the Macbook has vastly better WiFi reception than any of the metal-cased 'books,
which is why I have high hopes for the Santa Rosa chipset and GMA X3100 with current design.

If the Macbook ever goes metal, I will be hanging on to the highest-spec plastic Macbook for a very long time...

What would be nice and work better is if Apple would insert say a 2 or 3 inch plastic inset on the backside, kinda like the Ipod touch WiFi antenna location. IM sure the Wi-Fi connection would be better than surrounded by all aluminum.

The trick would be to make it blend and not be unsightly. Just a thought! :)

Apart from the RAM increase, I think these are likely to come in the next update...

Hope the updates fulfill the needs of everyone waiting.

Oh Deuz, have you ever read these things? The one thing I can guarantee is that the updates will never, ever in the past, present, or future of the Apple corporation, fulfill the needs of anyone on this site. All they want is a notebook available in 12-17" with a Penryn processor, separate graphics card, a touchpad that sings love songs to you, expansion up to 8 gigs of RAM and OS 10.6. For $999.

But not before the Mac Pro is updated. :D

With the special Satan Rosa chip and that graphics card - will this laptop be hotter or less hot than currently? What do you guys think? (I don't use laptops on a desk for the most part)

But going to Santa rosa means an increase in RAM capactiy, it will be 4GBs.

Did not know that...I'm not so up on the technical side of things...

I doubt many MB buyers would get 4GB of RAM though, the graphics are the most important (especially with the Cover Flow overload now)

I'm going to get a macbook and will get the stock 1GB (can't see that being raised) but when the price of 2GB chips come down then it'll have 4GBs. In maybe a year.

Luckily I spent $150 on 2 GB nearly two years ago.

Good ol' DDR2-667 still working in Macs.

That's what I fear, since I really want a new casing for the MBs. The odds are probably against it, but here's hoping for an Aluminum Christmas.
