Surprisingly it won't be any hotter.

Do you think it would be the same as the current model? Because when I feel the underside of them in the stores - it's like fire - and I'd have mine on 24/7 like that. This issue really needs to be addressed.

The Santa Rosa platform is designed to run at the same thermal specifications as Napa did.

In fact it does run a little cooler with improved sleep states and a front side bus that clocks down on idle time.

What I Think the Specs Will Be

Low End White
2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo
80 GB Hard Drive
1 GB Memory
Superdrive
$1099

High End White
2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo
120 GB Hard Drive
1 GB Memory
Superdrive
$1299

Black
2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo
160 GB Hard Drive
2 GB Memory
Superdrive
$1499

All models will have LED backlit screens, X3100 graphics, Mac OS X Leopard, and an upgraded iSight camera to match that in the MBP and the iMac.

I can see new enclosures on the MB announced tomorrow.
Its still the MB not the MBP.
MWSF is the most likely time the MBP will get a new refresh anyway.

I know, people will say "with the updates its more like the MBP!"
Does not mean it will stay that way.
Keep in mind that SJ said that new products are in the works for 2008 that will knock our socks off.

My prediction:

New MB coming out November 6 -- along with upgraded Mac Pro? -- possibly November 13. It will have: Santa Rosa platform with 2.0 and 2.2, X3100, LED screens (remember that massive order of 13.3 LEDs a few months ago?). The casing will be the same as the current lineup.

As for Oct. 30, there's just no way Apple was going to come out with a new MB so close to the release of their new OS. Just think of how many customers came in to buy Leopard and bought new MBs at the same time. But the MB line will be refreshed enough to keep sales running strong through the holidays.

Also, there is no way they will release a MB now with a snazzy new aluminum casing. Then they might as well discontinue the whole MBP line. Apple will, however, come out with slimmer aluminum MBs -- in about April or May, 3-4 months after they announce their radical new design for the MBP.

Why would a release one week later change things? I'd be just as pissed if I bought one on leopard night if they released it Nov 6th rather than Oct 30th. Either date, you're still within the 14-day return 10% restocking fee period.

And also, if they release a new MB with an aluminum casing that will not somehow do away with MBP? MBP still has dedicated graphics card, FW 800, larger screens, backlit keyboard, full keyboard, LED backlit display with auto-dimming light-sensing display, Flat LCD screen option, better speakers, and a few other details I'm leaving out. Bottom line is, it's still a step above the MB even if the MB is shod in aluminum.

when did he say that?

I'm about to buy a new Macbook Pro,
anyone heard of any updates for the pro?
I would hate to order it this week and then
the new one comes out a week later.

new Macbook pro in January with the new Penryn CPU - some other minor upgrades most likely (anyone?)

Hopefully introduced new design, and if not at least bring in a black Macbook Pro (oh yes!)

whats the difference between the isights? MB and MBP

I was thinking about this earlier...

The UK mac + free ipod deal ends tomorrow... it doesn't end tonight. That means tomorrow until midnight it's still on.

so if tomorrow or november 6ths update is only processor speed etc. not design updates, should i wait until MWSF to get a new MB?

OK so the Santa Rosa Macbook Pro's have a 1.3 MP iSight whereas the previous Macbook Pros (which is what I have) and the Macbooks have a 0.3 MP, but they both result in a 640x480 image due to down sampling on the higher MP camera.
Well you can take pictures at 1280 x 1024.
