Here I sit, with a fistfull of dollars.

Aand here I still sit with a fistfull of dollars, bastards.
Well, maybe the new macbook (or preferably MacBook Nano TM) would be on the way to me next week,then...
With...let´s see : Macbook Nano,FCS 2,Logic Studio AND Shake.

All postponed because of no love for small laptops.
Oh apple...

this freaking killing me. I've been waiting for 3 months now for the new macbook. I just got off of the chat on the apple store and if you so much as even mention a new revision they get all defensive. why don't they just freaking throw us a bone.

Tomorrow the Apple Store will definitely be "down for maintenance" for a while. Why? Because the "Back to School" action for a free iPod Nano 4GB will end than, and the ads for it will have to be removed from the Store.

Hopefully they will put something new AND INTERESTING in place for those ads.. ^_^

I thought that promotion ended September 16th? Is there a different promotion going on now? And if that is true, Apple can still announce on Wednesday, hasn't stopped them in the past, hence September 5th. Well, it was a holiday that Monday. But who knows.

It's a promotion for the UK and Ireland. What did they announce Sept. 5th? iMacs?

Anybody out there in the same situation as me? I purchased the Rev B MacBook the day they were announced, almost 1 year ago. I didn't purchase the extended AppleCare, which means my warranty is ending soon, so I have three options:

A) Buy new MacBook if available before Nov. 8, sell old MacBook
B) Keep current MacBook, purchase AppleCare before Nov.8
C) Do nothing, roll the dice and pray nothing major happens to my machine in the next 2 years.

Option A will cost me the most, depending on how Apple prices the new models in Canada, probably about $350-450.
Option B is $218 + tax ~= $250
Option C costs me nothing now, but potentially a lot more.

Performance wise, I don't know if I'd see much with the updated specs, so I doubt I could really justify an upgrade at this point.

Well, in the Apple Store of my country (The Netherlands) it states: "deze actie loopt af op 30 oktober" or in English for you guys: "This deal remains until the 30th of october"

So tomorrow that Back to School action will end, and the Apple Store WILL have to update. Who knows? =)

damnt iT! why cant they hurry up meh !! and my A3 printer still hasn't turned up it was spose to be here yesturday mehh.. (not from apple)

From what I hear, you will see a decent bump in performance. In the long run, you will get more time out of a new macbook because the current graphics chipset is outdated already. It comes down to a matter of what you want to do with your macbook. If you use photoshop, game a little bit, do some video editing, definitely get a new macbook when they're released. If you surf the net and do some word processing and nothing more, either option B or C it.

What are you all ('80-100 of you') waiting for in a mac pro update is Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 16GB of ram and 3TB of HDD not enought to buy yet

Not for the money. The price for a Quad is now for an Octo. We are all waiting for the updated version, penryn, new graphics cards, not 3 year old ones. That and the new MacPros are what, 45% faster than Clovertown?

All the info about the new updated MacPro can be found here. Rumors of course. But more true. lol

Option C... computers don't break that easily. I think you are overly paranoid.

I would suggest getting some Applecare just for the resale value. I'm not sure what the price is but you can get it considerably cheaper on eBay. That's what I did. Stick it out a bit longer then get the new MB's when they come out, and you won't have to worry about the warranty expiring

I got the first revision of the very first Macbook, it's been very good to me.

Well, I do a bit more than surf the net and word processing, but most of what I do is more CPU and memory bound than graphical (scientific programming, modeling and simulation, hardcore number crunching stuff), but my real workhorse stuff is done on an 8-core 16GB RAM MacPro. So really, this isn't much more to me than being able to say "OOooohhh NEW SHINY!!!!!" especially if it gets an enclosure redesign.

So If the lowest models of the "new" MB's would come with a Superdrive you'd be a fool getting the middle model. That's at least how I think about it...

I was actually thinking about this too. If with the update they put superdrives in every model, I may go for the low end instead of the middle. I have a 200gb external drive anyway, so i don't really need the storage. And if they all have SR anyway, whats the point?

But it's usually apple's MO to put out a ridiculously underwhelming low-end model so the wonks in the Apple store can say, "look what your extra $200 gets you!". They'll prob try and keep it that way, but they also want a cheap notebook for the holidays to stay competitive. The ppl that want it can pay extra for the bigger HD and slightly faster (likely 2.16/2.2/2.2) processor (as if it would make a difference, and as if people don't know you can get a 500gb external drive for less than the price of the extra 40gb on a BTO)

That was a long parenthetical explanation.

I've been waiting since August to get a new MacBook Pro! First I waited for Leopard, now I've got to wait until MWSF!

Not that I'm complaining - at least I read the rumor sites so I'm not buying one now and pissed off in a couple months that I didn't wait. I just wish I knew for sure that they're going to update the MBP in January!

Haha, I'm in the mood for spending my money on one of these nice MacBooks as well... But I'll wait patiently.
