Well, I do a bit more than surf the net and word processing, but most of what I do is more CPU and memory bound than graphical (scientific programming, modeling and simulation, hardcore number crunching stuff), but my real workhorse stuff is done on an 8-core 16GB RAM MacPro. So really, this isn't much more to me than being able to say "OOooohhh NEW SHINY!!!!!" especially if it gets an enclosure redesign.

LOL I love NEW SHINY! That's the same for me. I just bought a new 24" iMac about 7 weeks ago (my first mac computer) and I've loved it so much I need a laptop to go with it. But any real, major work I'm going to do is going to be on the iMac, not the 13.3" screen. So the macbook for me is just going to be to dick around with. And it's nice to have at school to type things up. But yeah I'd say, unless you want the latest and greatest, keep the current. I think everyone is expecting a major overhaul next May of the MB, so like I said, if you don't want the latest and greatest, at least hold off until May. I don't know about the Applecare... when 1 year is comming up on my iMac I'm not sure what I'll do. I guess if I can afford it, I'll get it.

I thought to take my visa card with me to work, if apple would finally update the Macbooks.. but left it home. If the back-to-school promo is still going till tomorrow, more likely they would release (if they even do) an updated Macbook next tuesday.

:rolleyes::apple:

So if the new macbooks come out next tuesday or the next, do they go on sale on black friday? If so can you use the student discount on top of the sale discount?

What sale discount are you talking about?

I think the student discount can be used on the new MacBooks immediately when they arrive.. Or am I misunderstanding you now?

i've heard on Black Friday (day after thanksgiving) that the macbooks usually get a hundred dollars nocked off of the price. I was wandering if you could use the student discount on top of this discounted price if they do it.

Best of both??

Hi all
I was thinking of getting a macbook and free ipod today with the student offer and then hopefully exchanging for an upgraded one next Tuesday. If there isn't one on Tuesday then a refund and waiting till one comes out.

What do you think? Are Apple refunds/exchanges pretty pain free?

Cheers! ;)

trading in student deal

Id read the fine print on that, load of stores have no refunds / trade in on items bought on special / sale, which the student deal might fall under. If you do get it, make sure you have it in writing from someone in the store you can trade it in if there is a release within the next two weeks.

Ah, well, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here so they probably don't do that here (the Netherlands).

I feel that they will not release it before 13th.
A lot of people are buying MB after Leopard day. They dont want a line of people coming in for the exchange. They just want new customers. So they will shrewdly add a week to the 14 day period from Leopard launch, and then release it.

Please don't forget, Apple is in this to make profits. They don't want the old stock coming back. And yes, not everyone reads these forums. There are many out there who buy laptops without these forums.

Didn't stop Apple from releasing new machines a few days after Tiger.
