Lots of good stuff today. Mac Mini should be a success...I hope. I think the most promising product is iWork. Ok ok, it doesn't have a spreadsheet among other tools.....YET!!! I'll be a happy camper the day I can remove MS office off my machine.

I was waiting to purchase a new iPod but I was hoping that it would be the same form as the others, just smaller and more light weight. Errrr. I wanted a screen! Any news on Apple upgrading the Ipod Mini? I was hoping that those would have been released today....along with the rumored new colors.

The Mac Mini should have been a G5!!!

We will see. The iPod Shuffle is kind of cool, but looks like something I might loose!

Overall some cool things...good Macworld.

Maybe a G5 Mac Mini in future updates, at least this is a great beginning.

Yes, some cool items from the Keynote, but MacWorld isn't over yet.

Cool!

This isn't the end of the updates, right? They must release the Powerbook bump tomorrow or when?? (Crosses fingers)

Any insight onto this matter and any insight on whether or not I cna pick up this speed bump'ed Powerbook the SAME day it is released? ;)

Now that Final Cut Express has HDV how about HDV support in Final Cut Pro? Is that coming soon? Final Cut 5? Any thoughts?

Eh?!

So, doesn't FCP already support HD, as in Final Cut Pro HD aka Final Cut Pro 4.5?? Please, please correct me if I'm wrong!!

PS. Loving the Mac mini, finally a *very* affordable means of replacing my Windows box with a desktop Mac. The iBook G4 was only the beginning for me... eventually a PM G5, but for now... :D :D

I was hoping the iLife '05 update would either be free or cheap for those that bought iLife '04. I think having to pay full freight for an update to a product you just bought 12 months ago is a bit steep.

All the stuff looks great, though.
A year is quite a long time in apps to want a rebate

About to crack, to wait or not to wait

Alright, so the new products are pretty cool.

AHH!

Alright, so I've been waiting on purchasing a Powermac G5 for the past 3 months now cause all signs seemed to point at an update. Now what? Anybody have any recommendations here? Do you think an update would add significant speed boosts or am I just suffering myself by waiting and not using ANY mac (current PC user, wanna get into digital video editing with Final Cut and music recording with Logic or Garageband). What to do???

The Mac mini is cool. Low on specs, but that's fine. Perfect for people who's curious about the Mac, and already have a monitor and keyboard/mouse. Doesn't take up much space either.

iPod Shuffle looks neat. I don't really need one, but I want one anyway :D The price seems fine for a flash drive.

POINT OF CLARIFICATION please!

Is this it? If it wasn't mentioned in the keynote, does that mean there will be no other new products. Not that this is not an impressive array of new products. But! I was hoping for the iPod mini hard drive increase. :(

WHAT WHAT WHAT????

asteroid never got released? i think apple didn't have it ready in time, more likely it will come out in june, along with g5 powerbooks. actually i think sadly, g5 powerbooks are about a year away still. i think they will get the powerbook g4's up to maybe 1.8 ghz and lower the price even more. could be wrong, but judging from past events. don't take it for granted that it will be released in june. although it is likely maybe around august/sept. to catch the back to school crowd. i think in june it will be 3 ghz powermacs, asteroid, airport express 2, 8 Gb ipod mini, a spread sheet app. and minor updates along with a release of tiger.

apples ipod line is too large right now. seriously. options are good. but shouldn't there be a line drawn.

512 mb shuffle
1 gb shuffle
4 gb mini
20 gb regular
40 gb regular
40 gb photo
60 gb photo

7???!!!!! wow
maybe the new line up should be like this:

2 gb shuffle
8 gb mini
40 gb photo
80 gb photo

of course this is about a year from now!

yeah, it could keep my bowl of soup warm

Maybe with the release of tiger we will see some good updates for current users

Wherefore, PowerMac G5?

I've been contemplating a 2.5 dual G5 purchase with 30" monitor. That would cost a whole lotta money. I'd like it to be maxed as is. It irks me that Dell & Gateway have been selling systems with included dual layer 8 gig DVD drives for months. I was hoping Apple would at least upgrade the DVD burners in the high end G5 system.

MacRumor's Buying Guide states:

Product: PowerMac
Last Release: June 09, 2004
Days Since Update: 216 (Average = 176)
Recommendation: Don't Buy - Updates soon

So, was today 'it' for the Expo.? Everyone log off, go home & hope something good happens in June? Game over?

Richard.

HDV is a new format that records HD via MPEG2 encoding onto a regular DV tape. The new Final Cut Express has support for HDV (as opposed to HDCAM or some other variety) but as of yet Final Cut Pro does not.

the mac mini is faster then the 12" pb

I've told a couple people I'm going to strap a 15" LCD on a Mac Mini and use a car battery on a shoulder strap rather than buy an outdated, overpriced current-gen 15" PB. I'm not so sure it's a bad idea after considering it for a few hours. I have $$$ to burn and I cannot figure out why Apple won't either give a speed bump, price cut, both, or G5s. ugh.

Seems like there's quite a few of us in the same boat. I've been waiting for a few months now, with money burning a hole in my pocket, for today. I'm impressed with what was released, but also I was a little disappointed by the lack or price drops on the PMG5s.

I'm tempted to buy this week, because I can't wait another 6 months, but I also don't want to jump the gun if there's going to be a price reduction or some feature change in the next couple of weeks.

Ahhh...the agony!!!

Why on earth do you people think that iLife 05 should be free for owners of iLife 4, as several people have suggsted? Apple are out to make money, how are they meant to do that if they are given away free products.

The complete home entertainment system

Am I the only one thinking this way? Yes the iMac mini will be great to help convert Windows people but it's also great for us. Not many people can justify having a dedicated computer attached to the TV but a mini can be put out of sight and costs less and doesn't come with a screen (the TV screen can be used). Imagine this: hook up mini to TV and Eye TV to mini then bung in a projector as well and control it all with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Add Air Tunes (and maybe even an internet connection) and you now have a Mac running your home entertainment system. Isn't this what Apple would be after?

Now you can record / pause TV, have access to and listen to all your music, watch a DVD on the projector or TV and look at all your photo albums on the TV in an instant. Browse the internet while keeping an eye on the TV in another window.

Yes you could do it all before but not without bringing in your laptop and hooking it all up and then unhooking. Now price is less of an issue, aesthetics are not a problem and your hardworking laptop is not taken out of action.

I'm in the same boat you are. I've been waiting months and months to buy a Powerbook - having no upgrade today leaves me wondering what I should buy? Any insight on if, or when the said upgrade on the Powerbooks might happen? A few weeks down the road? Or... in June? I just don't want to end up waiting more and more months to get it - I was really counting on an update today.

Here's to hoping for something within the next few weeks.

Thats right. I'm an owner of iLife '04 and I'm going to buy iLife '05. Its less than $100 people. Stop being so cheap.

This Friday - placing my order for the $99 iPod, February 4 or 11 placing my order for the Mac mini and iWork '05! I just hope they stockpiled these things.

That is what I am concerned with. The availability of the hardwar. Right now the mini is shipping from the Apple Store on the 22nd (est.). Apple hasn't had the besst history with keeping up with demand. My guess is that these things will sell out faster than the ipod minis did

Mac Mini - yum yum

Mac mini - perfect for Windows switchers. No DVD burner means I will not be buying one.

Actually, if you go to the apple store, click to buy the Mac Mini, you can add the superdrive for $100.

Also, for the guy who had his dad order 20 Mac Minis . . . did you have your dad order 20 keyboards and mice? Remember, BYODKM (Bring your OWN display, keyboard, and mouse).

So, no powerbook updates! No G5 tower updates! No iPod Mini price reduction, no iPod radio, no iPippin or iNewton, and no iDVD HD.
NOTICE: Half of the no-nos are going to be secretly announced on Apple's website within 2-4 weeks.

Also, what the heck! How'd Tiger go from first 1/4 of 2005 to 1/2 of 2005?? Darn it! That means not Jan to March but rather Jan to June! That's a long time to wait, who the hell gives a tail about how long before longhorn Tiger comes out. If it isn't coming out by March, what the heck! Might as well be simultaneous release to Longhorn. And, I'm betting Bill Gates is just delaying Longhorn's release just to make it more like tiger. I know he has no imagination or ounce of creativity. He's just waiting for Stevie to give him his cues.

And, I know Dell is the enemy, but isn't Sony the enemy too? Blu-Ray? Please! HDDVD. anyway ...

Any rumors about when Apple will release the Spreadsheet for iWorks? I'd really love to delete MS Office from my hard disk forever! I'd love to buy iWorks and do it now, but, really need that spreadsheet.

But $79, that's a great price. Maybe $99 with a spreadsheet? Even $129 would be good. That will blow MS Office away for good for all Mac users.
