That's a long time to wait, who the hell gives a tail about how long before longhorn Tiger comes out. If it isn't coming out by March, what the heck! Might as well be simultaneous release to Longhorn. And, I'm betting Bill Gates is just delaying Longhorn's release just to make it more like tiger.
That is giving them alot of credit to be abler to change there os that quickly to make it more Tiger like. More likely they are trying to get it to a usable state for release and let everyone find the bugs in it and then release a service pack or 2......... wait maybe that was XP :D

I want my POWERBOOK SPEED BUMPS DARNIT!

Just update them already... I'm tired of waiting.

I don't want the G5... just a slightly faster G4 with a bigger hard drive and higher resolution screen.

Thank GOODNESS somebody who understands!

I've seen nothing but bitching and moaning about the small powerbook bump. I don't care now - release the small bump this week and I'll be happy. Geesh!

My guess is this update will come sometime after Jan. 22nd so that powerbooks can be preloaded with iLife '05.

Well first, my BTO iMac was delivered on January 10th, so I am bummed that I'd have to pay full price for iLife...not that I think $79 is bad or anything, but, well...

Second, regarding the iPod shuffle, I initially thought the no screen idea was bad, but then I checked the size of my favorite skiing/biking/workout mix - 497MB - It would be perfect for that, since I usually just toss it into my pack and go. I actually think I'll get the 512 eventually...I'll check them out in the store...

Third, how can you hook up the minimac to a TV. It seems like this has great potential as a media center type of thing, but it just doesn't seem like all the pieces are in place just yet. Or am I missing something here?

Keynote: Good for Apple, for switchers, not so much for the Pros

Guys, I think the Keynote was fine... nice new products... get those Windoze guys switching over. I'm not too impressed with the iPod shuffle... no screen on it and too small... I'm sure it fills a niche. I guess I'll stick with my 30Gig iPod. The Mac Mini is kinda neat, but again, not for someone like me... its a G4 machine in a G5 world, underpowered, no digital audio out, etc.

What I really need is a new PowerBook. My little 12" G4 is almost 2 years old. I need a faster machine. I also am looking for a nice G5 Tower and 23" LCD screen. I don't want to get a 2.5 dual G5 because I know they're going to update soon... I can wait.

I was looking at MacRumors Buyers guide and darn near every one of their higher end products were "Don't Buy... update soon." The PowerMAcs? The PowerBooks, the eMAcs?

C'mon Apple... don't forget your diehards who buy tons of stuff from you too.

agree! I feel like this keynote was a reaching out to the PC users than the current mac users.

The Mac Mini is great if you just want a cheap Mac to "test" it out. Considering most PCs buy the monitor, keyboard and mouse seperatly anyway- so they probably can scout for with, np. but unfortuantly, most mac users DON't.

I'm sure most of us either use a PB, IB, eMac or iMac- all with a built in screen! Discourages the people who are willing to pay for a full featured Mac from using the mini. In terms of Marketing, they are geniuses.

On the other hand, love the ipod shuffle, exactly the kind of music player i'm looking for to go to the gym with.

dissapointed with the iPod mini not getting updated

i think its good that there is no updated pb's and mini's. that gives a better chance of a 6 or 8 gb mini and g5 powerbooks in june. i think anyone who buys the updated pb's that are supposedly coming out soon will be kicking themselves come june. it is such a minor update that i think it shouldn't be done. apple will have a lot of stale product on their shelve if they aren't careful. i am glad i have still managed to edit on my 800 mhz imac in fcp 3. although rediculously slow and frusterating, i think i will thank myself for not being selfish and getting a new computer every 2 years. i have had my original 15" imac since 2001, and hope to keep it til june, although the powerbooks actually wont ship til late july most likely. Oh! another bonus, is having tiger preloaded. i must say, it is true that getting the last of a discontinued model is bittersweet. you know it is a polished product, but it is slightly outdated tech. i swear apple has turned everyone into materialistic bastards. So, my final thoughts, wait til june and you will be greatly rewarded! (and please stop playing that black eyed peas poppy crap apple! i can't stand how they target the mtv crowd, guess it makes sense, but DAMN, don't get it started) ;)

Bought iLife '05, iWorks '05 and iPod Shuffle 1gig :D

Mac Mini doesn't do anything for me, but I think it's a great marketing strategy to woo peecee users. The more people over to Apple the better opportunity to develop apps and hardware.

I doubt we'll see the G5 PowerBook anytime soon, let's be realistic. More like a nominal speed boost and updated graphics card.

Makes sense to me that a screen really isnt needed for any MP3 player with 1GB of memory or less. Even on my big 20GB iPod, I use the shuffle feature to listen to all my songs, and just skip over those I dont want. iPod shuffle and iTunes are the killer products that no other mp3 player can hope to beat if they decide so.

But $79, that's a great price. Maybe $99 with a spreadsheet? Even $129 would be good. That will blow MS Office away for good for all Mac users.
If the spreadsheet works like AppleWorks spreadsheet, I'd stick with Excel.

iPhoto looks very promising. I've been waiting for them to support my videos from my Sony Cybershot. Eventually I'll have to get me a G5 so I can run the new Garageband. It looks very schweeeet! :D
