New Apple Stores?

You're right TO is a pretty extreme example of a laid back, bedroom community... ... Sigh ...

So I don't expect a riot given that there has been an Apple Store in Woodland Hills (about 30 minutes down the road) for a while, and a new Fry's just opened in Oxnard a few weeks back.

I just don't think the little one will let me get there more than half an hour early. Nor would he be patient enough to wait around for much longer than 30 minutes. :( Still would be cool to get an Apple TO T-shirt. :D

burlington store

an update on the burlington store --

i've been by a few times, and taken a peek in through the facade on the front. Looks like it's coming along nicely.... the section titles are hanging from the ceiling, the shelves and display desks are in place.

it looks like the genius bar is going to be at the very back of the store, in the middle. I know i've been to another Apple store that's setup this way, but I can't recall which one it is -- possibly the Milenia store in Orlando, but this store is much bigger.

According to the mall newsletter (my wife works at another store in the mall), the store is supposed to open Winter '05 -- but, when I was at another local apple store, the cashier told me that the store is supposed to open November 5th. Seems a tad fast, since I haven't seen anything job posting wise (could just be that i missed it thought). But, I don't think they are going to want to wait until after Thanksgiving to open that store. Too much potential to waste.

I can't wait -- it will be nice having an Apple store right smack in between work and home :D

Half an hour should be enough, especially if you go in with a mission to buy something specific and hit the registers quickly. You can then linger in the store after you've acquired your T-shirt as long as you'd like (or as long as the little one deems appropriate).

Awhile back there was a post about Apple Centers in Central Europe. Im in Sarajevo right now and there is one here. It looks remarkably like an actual Apple Store but the layout is a little different, the signage is all in English though. There is one in Budapest as well. I sort of wonder what the agreement with Apple is?

Thank you for the update SmileyDude. Sounds like you will have a lot of temptations. It is very exciting.

Gateway Mall - Salt Lake City, Utah (rumored opening 11/05)

Where did this rumor come from? When I interviewed, they told me that if hired, I would have to go two training classes on the last two weekends of November for an opening towards the end of the month. The guy asked me if I was planning on going out of town for Thanksgiving. I went by the construction two days ago, and it sure looked like they had more than a week of work to do. And still no Apple logo anywhere to be seen. But who knows, those people on TLC are always building whole houses in 3 days...

From Gary over at ifoAppleStore. I can't vouch for the date, but I thought people might be interested if there was any rumors to check on. Looks like you have better information than Gary.

Well I don't know. The guy could have been lying to me. I didn't get the job, after all. I was just surprised at that date, since the construction sure looks like it's got a ways to go. When would they announce the opening, assuming 11/05 is the day? Like next Tuesday or something? If so, then I know what I'll be doing next Saturday!

[EDIT] I've got to go down there and get him a better picture than the one he has on his site...

Normally we find out about a week out from opening. Sunday night is a time these alerts often are put on the web site, but it has gone up to two days before opening in one case (the Shibuya store.) I would think if we haven't seen a posting by Tuesday it probably won't happen on the 5th.

Two New Jersey stores

Apple's "Search Jobs" web page now has two new locations listed for New Jersey. One is in Freehold and is listed as "Freehold Raceway" - probably meaning the Freehold Raceway Mall, and the other is in Atlantic City listed as "The Pier" which could mean a number of things, including The Pier Observatory Mall. Regardless, this means one more store in the NYC metro area and one more in the Philadelphia metro area as Apple continues the saturation of major urban areas.

Now Apple can just add that Flag Ship Store here in Boston. We need more saturation.

Just got back from the Thousand Oaks opening. It was VERY laid back. I arrived at 4am and not one soul was there. The next guy showed up at 5am, but I let him walk inside the Apple store first because it meant a lot to him. A really nice guy too!

Most of the people didn't show up until after 9. Had a great time and met some nice people as usual!

As expected I was one of the ones that showed up late. We got there at 9:45 and made it in to the store about 10:45. I figured we'd bail if the line didn't move quickly. The line moved very quickly and everything was quite orderly. Met some interesting people in line, all Mac users. By the time we got in my little one had run out of patience and wanted to leave, though hid did scout out the kids section.

We did make it in time for T-Shirts, I got one and so did the little one! :)

Hmm... in that case, why not build in Madison, Wisconsin? Its a very modern city with lots and lots of college kids running around. It would be the perfect place and I think it has around 350,000.

Duluth, MN would be nice as well since that is where I will be moving next year. Alas, their "metro" area (Duluth, MN/Superior, WI has only about 100,000)

I was also at the Thousand Oaks opening today...got there at 10:02 or so (guess I'm not hardcore enough) and made it in around 11:10-15. Girlfriend and I both made it in time for the shirts, and I had the pleasure of lugging her new 17" iMac back to the car from the mall...fun :D

so, i was at the mall on friday, and it looked about the same as it has for the past few months. But, when i was there saturday, the facade had been removed. My son actually thought the store was open :) The windows are covered with paper so that you can't see inside.

I think Nov 5th is a reasonable date -- all construction looks done, and all that needs to be done is to stock the store. I'm assuming that they've had employees being trained at the other area stores.

BTW -- I think I posted earlier that the Genuis bar was at the back -- I was wrong. It looks like the Genuis bar, but it says "The Studio" instead. Looking at the signs on the ceiling, the genuis bar is located in the middle, on the right side of the store.

Gary over at ifoAppleStore agrees with you. He not only tags the Burlington store to open next weekend (still not confirmed by Apple however,) but he also gives us some new information on the two New Jeresy stores I announced yesterday (notice who got that information first ;)) and some links to some nice photos of the upcoming Fukuoka, Japan store.

Boing, boing! Apple has dropped the location of two more retail store locations, at The Pier at Ceasars in Atlantic City (NJ) and Freehold Raceway Mall (NJ). The former is a completed reconstructed pier adjacent to the existing Caesars Atlantic City hotel and casino, offering upscale shopping, restaurants and attractions to the city's 34 million annual visitors. The pier opens Spring 2006. The latter is across from the Freehold Raceway horse track south of New York City, with 205 shops and restaurants. It draws way beyond the borough's 11,000 population, and from a very affluent region.
The grand opening of the Burlington (Mass.) retail store will be on November 5th.
More photos of the future Fukuoka (Japan) store show the classic lines of stainless steel, covered-up back-lit logo on the window-less second floor, and the floor-to-ceiling windows on the third floor. It also shows the store is right next to Starbucks. Check these photos--you can just barely make out the Apple logo before the scaffolding was taken down, and the logo was covered.
