HAHAHA

Sorry, I just cannot agree with this. I've got both the PlayStation 4 and Apple TV 4. The PS4 is no competition to the ATV whatsoever. Yes, you can use Netflix and some other streaming services, and no they're not good at all. I tried Netflix on it (it's basically the only streaming service on that thing here in the Netherlands), and it just stutters. Has nothing to do with my network, as my Apple TV plays everything fluid.

PS4 is meant for gaming, it is nothing like the Apple TV. Just like how Apple TV is not meant for gaming. It does offer some nice games, but I use it mostly for watching movies, YouTube videos and podcasts, as well as listening to music. Gaming is more like a bonus in my honest opinion. And then again is streaming on the PS4 like some kind of a bonus. One that sucks though. :p

OT: Great ad! It's a pity we Dutchies don't get to see those incredible ads Apple has created in the past few months.

But it's just another streaming box, it's not even the best one . I like my ATV 4, but I'm deep in the Eco system , if I was not a Roku, Amazon are better offering. To be honest the nvidia shield is the best streaming box in my opinion. My ATV for is no future of TV, it's a apple device that plays my media files of a plex server, and it's very good st that, the rest is very average.

I'm sure the guy who shot this commercial is also a coder in his spare time and will put down the camera to "go fix that" (sic).

Not sure where anyone said that...so perhaps you missed what I was saying, I can re-phrase it for you so that you can understand it: if you are selling a product that has had bugs in one of its major features for all of the 3 major version (9.0, 9.1, 9.2) you MIGHT want to try fixing bugs that should be pretty easy to fix prior to having more people buy the product and find it buggy unlike the ATV 1, ATV 2 or ATV 3.

Now, again, in case you didn't read it, I didn't mention the guy "who shot the commercial" also being "a coder in his spare time".

Not true. Due to Apples secrecy the is no active way to inform yourself of future products.

True — but you take an interest in — and invest time in — Apple's future. That's more than can be said about the general audience of such ads. How many do you think even know the ATV 4 exists?

So in the case of the Apple TV, most loyal fans upgraded as soon as it was released. So my point, that apple has a huge following, and these loyal fans buy the products as soon as they are released.

Exactly. And these ads don't cater to them.

They don't need markerting and ads to sell products,

Clearly, they beg to differ.

Brilliant. "Hey guys, there's a minor bug in this product" — "CANCEL ALL MARKETING! We need to discontinue this STAT and not re-release it until it's perfect!"

You did a non sequitur and I responded in kind.
I don't need lessons, I learn to read at age 3, 45 years ago; so, spare me the blah blah.

He wasn't a rapist. Huge difference between being a prick and... Well.

BTW, Kobe settled out of court in a civil case so if he's so innocent I wonder why he got out the wallet.

Civil case have a barrier to proof that's a lot lower than criminal cases and people settle for all sort of reasons.
We don't even knew what they really settled on. Are you a lawyer or a party in this case?

What I got from this ad was Apple Tv has this useless gimick that lets people fast forward to an exact minute and second in a movie. How many times do people do some thing like that?

I'd use that feature if you want to rewind a part you just watched, I assume you could ask it to go back also a certain amount of seconds, etc??

Apple TV... still mostly useless where I live, yet more expensive than in the US :)

Come on, Apple. Some companies are starting to integrate Chromecast right into TV sets. No external boxes, no Smart TV crap - just direct control over the TV from Android device instead of remote. That feels like the "future of television", not just another $150 streaming box.

How about finally allowing AirPlay to be integrated into TVs, at least?

I guess if you're as basketball fan, this ad would be funny? I've no idea what I just watched, but I certainly didn't even smile.

Kobe Bryant is arguably the greatest player of all time, only 2nd to Michael Jordan. However, age takes down even the greats, and as a result, he is retiring this year, and just played his final game this week. It is a very sad day around the world for the billions of basketball fans that exist.

Michael B. Jordan "coincidentally being named Michael Jordan" its a fantastic actor, and coming fresh off of the amazing film "Creed", which is a sequel of sorts in the Rocky Franchise starring Sylvester Stallone. In the commercial, Kobe is showing Michael B Jordan "Whom for the sake of the commercial is playing Kobe in an autobiographical film about Kobe", a clip of his YOUNG self when he first came into the league. In the meantime Jordan comments that it's perfect because it's helping him understand how to play the FALL of Kobe...implying that he's fallen from grace.

Kobe, of course not wanting to accept his age, argues with Jordan about this particular character point.

Hilarity ensues.

I hope this helped you to have an idea of what you just watched, and possibly you can even smile about it now upon a second viewing. Have a nice Sunday.

This ad went completely over my head.

Was it supposed to be funny? I think so, but I didn't get the joke. I presume these people are famous, as Apple have sadly succumbed to celebrities, which is the measure of last resort, but I don't know who they are.

As to Apple TV: I wish Apple would introduce a subscription service for movies and tv programmes. That would be far more enticing than a music subscription service.

Awwww too bad for you. Meanwhile let Apple grab some new fans from the US basketball fans crowd.

You're obviously not the target audience for this ad. Guess what? Apple is not obliged to release only ads that please you.

I am and it was.

I'm surprised you couldn't find the humor. Sorry you missed it.

Never heard of Kobe like most of Europe.
He grew up and played in Italy while his dad was a pro there. Not that you should know every player who's played in Italy, but he has some legitimate European ties.

Who's more recognizable?

Kobe Bryant in an Apple ad?

Or Gary Busey in an Amazon ad?

We must also remember that these commercials are for the US market only.

Only if you feel like having your TV hacked (cause you know you're not getting upgrades for the next 8 years your owning your Tv from a Android OEM with a 5% margin of profit, or feeding continuously info to Google, or eventually being horribly obsolete (like anything integrated).

Anything that integrates directly into the TV (and is not controlled by the manufacturer) is an idiocy unless the whole device is sold directly by the manufacturer : don't think Google is about to sell TV's.
