What's with Kobe's obsessions about Michael Jordan? Everyone knows how much he likes to be compared to Michael Jordan on the court, and off the court he's appearing in a commercial alongside Michael B. Jordan. I guess if someone were to start a company named Bryant & Jordan, Kobe wouldn't even hesitate to shell out big bucks to buy it.

I would love to see a customer confronting Tim Cook as part of apple ad:
Customer: Hey, Tim. You messed up!
Tim: Hey buddy, what happened?
Customer: I got glitched the hell out from your current os x.
Tim: Oh man..I'm sorry to hear that.
Customer: You don't have to be sorry for what i'm about to do to you.
Tim: What you talking man?
Customer: Not only that you are focusing too much on ads..and soldering the hell out of computers and providing bad quality products...I'm gonna show you what apple ad is all about -shows his fist-
Tim: -Gulp-
"Apple. Think clearly."

Don't forget about that deadbeat dad who they chose to lead the company.... If I remember correctly his name was Steve Jobs.

But ThunderSkunk is faultless! It doesn't matter what the jury found about Kobe! Or that Dre has settled with his former wife, and that has been litigated too. If they don't pass ThunderSkunk's muster, they must not be allowed to be!

Not true. Due to Apples secrecy the is no active way to inform yourself of future products.

My point is that when apple launches say a new iPhone, people buy . And they buy by the millions , these ads come way into a product release. So in the case of the Apple TV, most loyal fans upgraded as soon as it was released. So my point, that apple has a huge following, and these loyal fans buy the products as soon as they are released. They don't need markerting and ads to sell products, they have the best brand loyalty in the business. Took them a long time , but they have a massive following right now.
What are you talking about? They don't make ads like these for existing customers. They make them for new customers. Right now there are a few million people trying to decide between Chromecast, Amazon, Roku and ATV. Advertising is usually geared towards those consumers on the fence.

I think it's safe to say that Apple makes commercials for both types of customers.

Someone could have an old AppleTV 2 and they might be interested in the features of the new AppleTV 4. They are an existing customer... but they're still a potential buyer of the new version.

And Apple is targeting a person who has no streaming box at all.

Apple's commercial can cover both situations. There's always someone looking to buy.

Apple has released a new television ad for the fourth-generation Apple TV called "Father Time," starring NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and actor Michael B. Jordan. It is the tenth ad for the new Apple TV since it launched in late October.

The one-minute spot centers upon Bryant and Jordan using the Apple TV and Siri Remote to open the NBA app, play a movie, and fast forward to a specific time in the movie. The ad uses the same trailer backdrop as the earlier "The Kiss" spot.

The underlying "Father Time" theme of the ad lightly pokes fun at how Bryant's all-star career with the Los Angeles Lakers, whom he will play the last game of his 20-year career for on Wednesday, is coming to an end due to his age.

The ad closes with the tagline "future of television" and colorful bars as seen throughout the rest of Apple's advertising campaign for the new Apple TV, including billboards in major cities like Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Hollywood.

Please...Apple is doing what every company does when they are trying to capture a market segment that they are weak in...advertise and market to their weak segment.

Funny Ad and had a good laugh.

Kobe's talent in his profession was amazing...but his personal life of course was not during his carreer and should (of course) not be modeled. Seems the trend more so lately in the famous (or at least more revealed now). People praise Steve Jobs (and yes, his talent too was amazing), but what little we have heard (or revealed) about "his" private life...I would not be surprised if he too has many 'other' skeletons in his closet that is unknown that could be compared to Kobe's or even worse.

Wow, first Apple rewards & endorses Dre, and now Bryant.
Boy I tried, but there's really no way to sugar coat the point...
...a woman beater and now an anal rapist. Who will they promote next, a serial killer?

Way to pick em, Apple. Women everywhere must be real impressed.

I agree, this is a disgrace. Apple giving Kobe the Rapist a gig on their Ads. As a shareholder, I am contacting the board members.

Marketing and ads don't sell products and that's not their intention. Ads create brand awareness. Marketing 101.

Lol, no you're not.

Still never heard of him.
Google if you're interested. My guess is you're not and only came here to state "who?" as if that makes you objectively superior.

Now if Tim Cook can have Apple innovate the products to match how good the commercials have been lately, we will all be much happier :)
LOL. Apple users will never be happy. No matter what Apple does, this site and its users crap all over them. It will never end.

But, this is an awesome ad.

While you've got the right idea, it contains too much common sense, would require Apples best work, and would in all likelihood, make millions of Apple customers very happy.

How you could dare be so bold as to make this suggestion is something that...

Well,

I commend you for ! :D

What is it with this community that thinks an editor, camera op, programmer, and QC analyst are all the same person? They are not. And typically marketing is handled by a third party altogether.

When the iPhone is as thick as a house and the battery lasts until death, they'll still be complaining it's not enough. #MR-members.

Civil case have a barrier to proof that's a lot lower than criminal cases and people settle for all sort of reasons.
We don't even knew what they really settled on. Are you a lawyer or a party in this case?

I'm sure Kobe had the finest representation available, certainly better than a hotel employees. The athlete/celebrity worship in America is embarrassing. Apple should know better than to attach their brand to a damaged celebrity when there are so many other ones. Maybe they can get Michael Vick or Bill Romanowski for the next one.

And how many Mac ads have been released in that same time? Oh right, Apple's advertising team has forgotten they still make those.

Well, at least Macs still get a mention in Microsoft's ad...

What I got from this ad was Apple Tv has this useless gimick that lets people fast forward to an exact minute and second in a movie. How many times do people do some thing like that?
Perhaps this is meant for Mr. Skin subscribers. Seriously though... Where are the apps? FireTV is killing AppleTV on them.

Haha! It's like that saying: Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

HAHAHA

Sorry, I just cannot agree with this. I've got both the PlayStation 4 and Apple TV 4. The PS4 is no competition to the ATV whatsoever. Yes, you can use Netflix and some other streaming services, and no they're not good at all. I tried Netflix on it (it's basically the only streaming service on that thing here in the Netherlands), and it just stutters. Has nothing to do with my network, as my Apple TV plays everything fluid.

PS4 is meant for gaming, it is nothing like the Apple TV. Just like how Apple TV is not meant for gaming. It does offer some nice games, but I use it mostly for watching movies, YouTube videos and podcasts, as well as listening to music. Gaming is more like a bonus in my honest opinion. And then again is streaming on the PS4 like some kind of a bonus. One that sucks though. :p

OT: Great ad! It's a pity we Dutchies don't get to see those incredible ads Apple has created in the past few months.
Its amazing how fluid the Apple TV, my friends boyfriend has a PS4, and she complains how its slow and unresponsive compared to her AppleTV. :)

What he said .....

Tim Cook is clearly not a product guy. That said, Apple has been innovating plenty as they always have. It's just that there's no Steve to sell it... He was able to mesmerize the crowd with a pulsating sleep light indicator! That, and people's expectations have become unrealistic IMO.

3D Touch, Force Touch trackpad, iPad Pro and it's true tone display and 4 dynamic speaker system, Apple Pencil, handoff, Apple Watch, Swift, 64 bit mobile processors, Touch ID and Apple Pay, Apple TV4, product design, etc... Some truly impressive innovations... If people can stop comparing them to the iPhone. That kind of disruptive innovation happens once every few decades.
