People who call Kobe a rapist are the biggest sore losers on the face of the earth. He cheated on his wife over a decade ago and the gold digger made the most of it. End of story, get a life people. I'm sure all of you perfect men out there would never cheat on your wife if you were a traveling athlete with millions in the bank and model types lining up to give you sex. I'm sure you watched some porn right before you posted your hateful comments while your wife is cooking or something.

Marketing and ads don't sell products and that's not their intention. Ads create brand awareness. Marketing 101.

You are correct. My point is that apple has excellent brand awareness and customer loyalty, more so than any other company
[doublepost=1460353969][/doublepost]
What are you talking about? They don't make ads like these for existing customers. They make them for new customers. Right now there are a few million people trying to decide between Chromecast, Amazon, Roku and ATV. Advertising is usually geared towards those consumers on the fence.

Read the original comment I replied to. I'm not saying there is no place for advertising and markerting in apple, it's actually what apple does best! Yes these ads are on for people on the fence. Apple will sell a truckload of products at launch without showing a single ad.....is my point.
[doublepost=1460354406][/doublepost]
True — but you take an interest in — and invest time in — Apple's future. That's more than can be said about the general audience of such ads. How many do you think even know the ATV 4 exists?

Exactly. And these ads don't cater to them.

Clearly, they beg to differ.

1. That is true, apple treated the Apple TV as a hobby for a long time. Though majority of people are not aware of streaming boxes in general, as these features now come built into TVs

2. I'm not saying apple does not need markerting, it's actually what the company does best, hence the best brand awareness in the business . The original comment I replied to is that apple will sell amounts of units at launch that other companies dream of for a year or two just on brand loyalty without a single ad, ie the iPhone . These campaigns are to pick up new customers and keep the brand awareness alive. In a nutshell apple is so damn big and popular these days, come launch of a new product, it's sold out. They go from keynote to sales without a single ad :)

HAHAHA

Sorry, I just cannot agree with this. I've got both the PlayStation 4 and Apple TV 4. The PS4 is no competition to the ATV whatsoever. Yes, you can use Netflix and some other streaming services, and no they're not good at all. I tried Netflix on it (it's basically the only streaming service on that thing here in the Netherlands), and it just stutters. Has nothing to do with my network, as my Apple TV plays everything fluid.

PS4 is meant for gaming, it is nothing like the Apple TV. Just like how Apple TV is not meant for gaming. It does offer some nice games, but I use it mostly for watching movies, YouTube videos and podcasts, as well as listening to music. Gaming is more like a bonus in my honest opinion. And then again is streaming on the PS4 like some kind of a bonus. One that sucks though. :p

OT: Great ad! It's a pity we Dutchies don't get to see those incredible ads Apple has created in the past few months.

I suggest you get your PS4 fixed, as mine plays video flawlessly.

Here in the UK the PS4 has a large range of streaming apps, larger than the ATV 4 where it counts. There aren't any virtual fireplace apps but it does have Amazon Prime and most of the UK streaming services. The ATV by comparison lacks Amazon and offers few UK services. Ultimately content is king, and the PS4 simply has better content.

Plus many ATV apps are pretty awful. There are lots of ATV 3 ports which look like MS-DOS applications such is their crude design and lack of functionality. PS4 apps all look as they should - very graphical and clearly designed. The Now TV app on the ATV is particularly comical. It's almost unusably bad, but is just fine on the PS4.

It's perverse that a dedicated streaming box such as the ATV should be worse at streaming than a system which was clearly designed with media playback as an afterthought, but there you go. The ATV is a pretty awful product. If I was recommending a dedicated streaming box I'd go for a Roku first, then a Fire TV.

Nice, now make Siri work on non-English Apple TV's. Or at least make her understand English on non-English devices.

It would be nice if the future of television is there for anyone who purchases the device, you know.

That's like not knowing who David Beckham is in the US. I'm sure most of Europe knows who Kobe Bryant is.

Unless they're into basketball, I very much doubt most people in Europe have ever heard of him. Basketball is not a major sport over here.

Only if you feel like having your TV hacked (cause you know you're not getting upgrades for the next 8 years your owning your Tv from a Android OEM with a 5% margin of profit, or feeding continuously info to Google, or eventually being horribly obsolete (like anything integrated).

Anything that integrates directly into the TV (and is not controlled by the manufacturer) is an idiocy unless the whole device is sold directly by the manufacturer : don't think Google is about to sell TV's.

Another tinfoil hat alert.

Unlike Beckham, Kobe is a talented Athlete. Beckham is only know globally cause of Posh Spice. There would be many people in Europe that don't know Kobe, though they probably heard of Jordan and magic :)

Sorry, but I just cannot agree with this.

Apple TV is far more superior in terms of content. Maybe I just don't set my expectations too high. My Apple TV does exactly what I want it to do. :)

By the way, I don't have to get my PS4 fixed. As I mentioned, it wasn't designed as a media box, so I don't act like it is one. For gaming it works great, just how ATV offers great apps for streaming and other stuff that's designed for a device like that. To me it is at least.

It's on the same thing as saying most people don't know who Ronaldo or Messi is over here (they don't), but that's because there's a lot of people that don't follow sports. If you follow sports, to any degree, you know who these athletes are. If you don't follow sports, you've never heard of them.

I'll tell my girlfriend Lionel Messi scored 2 goals today and she'll think I'm talking about our messy room.

So, I guess they couldn't get Steph Curry? Even though he plays for Golden State? I guess he does have to get ready for the playoffs, whereas Kobe....

Get Amazon Video and I'll consider Apple TV. Until Roku.

Serious question, what do you watch on Amazon prime that isn't available on Netflix?

I'm a prime member but between shipping, music streaming and videos their prime move service is the one I rarely use.

Stephen Curry technically has been in an apple commercial already.

Some people prefer to purchase their shows or movies from Amazon instead of iTunes, Prime Video is only a part of Amazon Video.

But, to answer you question of what's good on Amazon Prime and not on Netflix:

The Americans and Orphan Black are two of my favorite shows. Mr. Robot, Vikings, Justified, and The Man in the High Castle are all on my list to watch, and Amazon has a deal with HBO for all of it's older shows and miniseries, such as The Wire, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Band of Brothers, and The Pacific. Also, Downton Abbey seems to be fairly popular.

Netflix does have a much better selection of comedies though, and so far they've been more successful with their original series.

Apple TV is one of the products that is basically on the right track, so I cannot second your comment here.
I'm with you. And while on the subject, why in every ad thread does it become just a contest to see what negative things people can say about Apple that has NOTHING to do with the ad???
[doublepost=1460392652][/doublepost]
*sigh!* Spare this money and put it into software QA. Please.
do you REALLY think Apple has a money issue?
