I'm in Japan on holiday atm and both Bic Camera and Yodobashi are out of stock NATIONWIDE of the 128gb model, I don't want to get my hopes up but who knows...

*Apple stills has stock tho...

the AppleTV has been sadi to go low stock every couple of months the last few years. New one is ocming. Just don't expect it any time soon.

Doubt this will be it 😂

Reasonably certain it will have at least the N1 chip. If so, it will be a matter/thread home hub; the lights, doorbells, cameras, etc. should work faster and more efficiently. You should be able to set up a mesh network for the home with a couple of HomePod minis and an Apple TV or two... The only problem with this dream is that they manufactured the things last fall, according to some reports.... I guess we will see.
The on-line store is open. Seems as though this is a good indication of no new hardware. New Apple TV hardware in the fall...

So, if a new Apple TV 4K launches with an A17 Pro (or even an A18 chip), it will officially be offering a 2nd tier Apple Intelligence experience, with the top tier requiring and A19 Pro or M4 chip with at least 12 GB RAM. At the moment, the only definitive features covered by Apple's most advanced models are the customisable voice and advanced dictation support (probably quite important for the Apple TV / Homepod interface). I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg and more examples of features lacking on A17 Pro/A18/A18Pro/A19 and M1-M3 chips will become public as people gain access to Siri AI as the betas roll out.

im hoping it does come with a latest generation chip but i doubt it.
maybe knowing this is why this device has been delayed so far as it could be lined up to be the main home hub but we have had reports of another device doing that
i think its coming in September it will fill the gap left by one of the delayed iPhone models not turning up possibly ie waited so long now i will wait for it but from a purely and only streaming point of view my TV with Google TV running Android 14 stripped back and put in apps mode is the closest to Apple TV ive seen without the extras.

Not that oudated and not always, the HD had a A8 only one year after its debut, the 1st gen 4K had A10X just months after its debut, the 2nd gen 4K had the A12 less than a year and a half after its debut and the 3rd gen 4K had the A15 a year after its debut. If the new 4th gen 4K comes with the A17 Pro it will be the first Apple TV release with a 3 years old chip.

It doesn’t need a lot of resources but if you use it for gaming or playing hi res videos, sometimes the system can lag a bit.

Though the A8 did come with year old chip it wasn’t quite the same A8 it was a newer one with 2GB of RAM and a 100Mhz extra clock speed and it was great that it got the A10X one months after since the A10X can handle 4K output better than the A11 can ( and the A11 is a neglected CPU in its history)

Even if it does come with a 3 year old Pro Chip you have to take a look at the fact that as you said it doesn’t need a lot or resources ( hence why Apple TV HD got tvOS 26 with its A8/2GB of RAM) but if the next Apple TV gets the A17 Pro then Apple is putting it in the same category as the iPad Mini ( from the iPad Mini 4/Apple TV HD) onwards in terms of CPU/RAM ( except the A10X Apple TV as there is no iPad Mini equivalent)

My render guy deserves a raise.

If any of this highly unlikely device designs actually happens we will all be in a dreamland.

We all know some of what we see below is technologically possible
and that maybe is why we don’t expect it from Apple
but if Ternus is viewing this thread as a Hardware Guy he must build these!!!!!

Well that's cursed.

Looks like a bunch of high end parts thrown at a product designed for a low end task.

I can't expect this from Apple or any half competent company. Is there are market for people looking for a streaming box that has 24 gb of RAM, 2tb SSD, HDMI 2.2 and TWO thunderbolt 5 ports. Oh and Toslink!!😂😂😂

Admittedly its more of an Ultra Box than a spec upgrade to a Pro Box,
but you can see the intentions if they are a little over-powered,
or maybe under-powered to go up against a recent or new Xbox or PS5 or PS6???

they most likely will include more Ram for Ai im guessing since im reading Siri Ai needs 12gb?

Given that Siri AI is the likely culprit for the delay (regardless of chipset), I wonder if the most recent push-back is due to the RAM shortage given that Cook just stated on the record that they will be raising their prices?

Regardless of how stripped down the homeOS may be they still need 6-12GB to run these Apple Foundation local models (depending on which model) and home devices (like HomePods and streaming boxes) have some pretty hard price ceilings. The talk had been about Apple releasing TV hardware at $99 but if that doesn't even cover the cost of RAM. . .

I don't think ram is the issue persay. Its Siri and more them just having no drive to release this, unlike the phones. It's an afterthought product that can slot in anywhere and dropped via a short press release. ram shortages just make it even less pressing.

Lets hope the 'Hardware Guy' decides to release some 'Hardware'.

I think we will know what direction Apple will want to take in the Streaming Device market soon, i just don't think they care about it that much, if at all, but hope i'm wrong.

I don’t know if this has been discussed in the 24 pages, but I hope they keep the Ethernet port. I use mine as the hub to HomeKit and I like it plugged into the network.
Of course they will keep the ethernet port. I just wish they didn't differentiate the models by removing it on the cheaper model. But given RAM prices, my guess is they will continue to use the ethernet option as a way to upcharge.

They removed it from all of their computers, who says they won’t on the Apple
Tv?

With Roku being bought by Fox now and probably gonna turn to even worse **** than it is this is a great opportunity for Apple
