We can discuss the adjustments to pricing, but I'm starting to appreciate this policy.
I have something like 8 apple cables (either usbc-usbc or usbc-lightning), and I surely don't need more.

Giving Apple $20 or whatever they charge for a USB-C cable now and having it shipped separately instead of getting one in the box helps the environment according to some here. I've heard it all now.
And how many people here already have a USB-C cable and won’t do that? I’d say 99% or more. That my angry friend is the reality and helps reduce e-waste. Just admit it, I know you want to. You'll feel better to stick your head over to the green side, even for a moment.

While I think not including cables is inevitable (and a good idea), Apple users are still too early in this transition for Apple not to include them. I own several new Apple products that don't use them, and don't own anything with USB-C at this point. Until Apple's biggest selling device is USB-C (iPhone), then they can't really justify it.

EDIT: I own an iPad (9th gen), Macbook Air (M2 2022), iPhone 12, Airpods (3rd gen), Apple watch (4th gen).

They dropped the price by $20, and the cable costs $20… please explain to me how that is being “greedy” or “stingy?” All that happened was that Apple is now saving people with a million USB-C cables laying around a) $20 and b) from having a 1,000,001st USB-C cable to collect dust
LOL…so for those without a spare USB-C cable lying around (which is likely a sizable group of people that exists, believe it or not) it isn’t really cheaper. It would be sensible for Apple to include such a cable for, as @Diamond Dog put it, pennies on the dollar at wholesale prices rather than foist yet another cost onto the far less well-endowed customer.

Classic shrinkflation.

Flawed. If Apple dropped the price by $20 and it only costs them $1 to include the cable, how is that shrinkflation?

It’s almost impossible to buy anything these days without USB C. Some supply, some don’t. But I generally prefer to buy a decent quality cable that suits me, rather than a flimsy 30cm cable that many include just to shut the whingers up.

Why do you need a spare cable? Why do you need a dedicated cable to charge a tv remote once in a blue moon for a few hours? Can’t you just borrow your mouse/keyboard/phone/vape/tablet/other generic tech product cable ?

Because it doesn’t cost the end-consumer $1 unless they get some cheaply-produced Aliexpress/Amazon cable. To get the official Apple one it will be an additional $20, burdening the customer with additional cost and the environment11!!2 with additional packaging waste…and blessing Apple wits extra profit.

Exactly. The sort of terrible cable that Apple often includes in the box you mean?

Yup. The only ones they should be shipping, if they do, should be the braided cables.

But it’s not $20 (or $19) cheaper for them to ship a device because they take out a $1 cable.

Q: Do you already have a USB-C cable around that could charge up your aTV remote twice a year?

At this rate iPhone 18 is gonna come without battery. If you need it you can go to your Apple store to get it installed and if you don't you'll have a really pretty paper weight.

What happened to the standard of the world cable? That there are $1 or $20 and that’s it? No other choices for a standard? Buy a $20 cable from apple and the environment goes to hell. Buy a $1 cable from Amazon and it doesn’t?

I want to know why airplanes won’t convert to USB-C from USB-A. I have to carry an extra cable with me just for a long haul just so I can charge my headphones.

Oh the humanity….

Maybe airplanes should provide me with a USB-A to C converter so I can enjoy more experience more.

Even some weird snow globe thing my partner bought for our young kid last year from god knows where, came with a usbc cable. You people are nuts 😂
